The main room plays a mix of Spanish music, including Bachata, merengue, cumbias, and reggaeton, with an occasional hip hop track thrown in. The second room seems to stick mostly to reggaeton and hip hop. Live bands rotate every week and play on both Fridays and Saturdays. Both halls feature large bars. There is plenty of seating available if you are purchasing alcohol. If you are not drinking, you cannot sit down for free; you have to pay for a table. The staff is friendly. Drinks run between $8 and $15 for alcoholic options, and water is $4. A notable thing here is that a lot of people come specifically to dance--I saw women coming alone and positioning themselves near the dance floor. The crowd felt like it was generally mid-20s and above. The overall atmosphere with other patrons was friendly and not combative. My one gripe is that the music can be very, very loud. For parking, it's $10 in the back lot and $20 if you park in the front.

First time going and my friends standing at bar were asked to dance several times. Reserve prior if u want a table. Mix of dj and live band who played salsa and merengue mostly. I heard the DJ play salsa, merengue and bachata before live band started. The restroom has several stalls and is kept clean. A lady sitting inside provides the hand towels to dry your hands. Tips appreciated. Valet parking only- $10 behind building and $20 in parking lot. Entrance charge definitely on a Saturday.

Salsa for beginners with Jonathan gets full 5 stars but I did not give full stars for service…read morelevels by other staff and front desk representative at the studio. They have a sign outside that states first class free for first time members then they sing a different tune when you enter the facility. This is false advertisement in my book. The front desk lady even told me my first class was free but an instructor listening in told me I had to pay. On to the good part of my experience... Jonathan was amazing, patient and a good dance instructor. The moves were easy and fun. I will be back for his experience alone and take his classes. I plan to update my review at a later date with the other instructor working the same night who was not as kind and rude in my book. There is a Groupon (2 classes for 11 bucks ) that I purchased online.

FADS is a chain dance studio not exclusive to the Gulf Coast area. You can find information online…read moreabout how they structure their programs and you are going to form your own opinion on whether or not you think its a good value. Having been going to FADS Katy for 4 months, and having gone to as many group classes as I can attend, my perspective has changed as I have learned more about ballroom dancing. When it comes to things we are not familiar with, beginners often over estimate their knowledge and skill level, and this is the problem with Yelp in general (crowd sourcing reviews and ratings to people who are generally not knowledgeable, or experts, about what they are talking about). At first I questioned the push for learning dances I had no initial interest in. But as I have gotten better at dancing in general, without knowing it, learning other dances besides the ones that I wanted to focus on has given me better control of my body, and understanding of the movements required to move across the dance floor. So while you may not be practicing the dance you want to specifically get better at, you become a better dancer, which makes it easier to learn, retain, and master any dance you focus on. The instructors and staff at FADS Katy are skilled at what they do, and if you put in the effort to learn and remember what they teach you, they will respond in kind, pushing you to become better at what you want to learn, reaching whatever goals you have. Their goals may or may not always align with yours, its a business. It is up to you to know what is your long term goal. But know that the path you think you want/need to take may not be the best way to get there. Luckily, its really only the introductory program where they show you the basics of the main dances. Once you complete that course, you get to choose what it is you want to focus on. For country dancing I recommending learning Two Step, Polka, and the Country Waltz. For latin dancing I recommend learning Salsa, Merengue, Rumba, and possibly Bachata. This is Texas after all. Every other Friday is a dance party with free food and booze for students and their guests. Get your party on.

FADS Katy has the best teachers and as we have been students here for a year and a half we highly suggest coming here. We have Dimitri and Olga as instructors and they do an amazing job for us.
