This is not for those who just want to take a month-long class to say they've tried it... salsa takes dedication and Strictly Street Salsa will give you the skills and help you really learn the right habits to being a great dancer. The business has expanded from a one-man operation to having several instructors who teach in 5 different locations (including in Sugarland and Pearland). So why chose SSS? Besides being affordable, the classes are made so you do not need to have a partner. You actually rotate partners which helps you become a very adaptable dancer (instead of merely learn how to dance with one person). You also learn the more casual and classic version of salsa, Cuban-style which I personally prefer over the flashier, more theatrical "LA-style". Added bonus - once you reach the more advanced style classes you start to learn casino or rueda (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rueda_de_Casino). It's like square-dancing salsa and it is a blast! The cost for a drop-in is $25, so it's also pretty reasonable pricing/very competitive with other dance class locations. I also really like how they do the schedule for the Latin social dance class - each month, they pick a genre (i.e. salsa, bachata, cha cha, etc.) and week 1 of the month is a super introductory level to the new genre, then week 2 builds on what you learned week 1, and so on - so it's always new every week, but not overwhelmingly new! I've also been to their two-stepping class and enjoyed it, but it's on Fridays and I usually have other plans haha - they also do occasional special events like a monthly social (which is free) and a seasonal showcase (which is coming up and is only $30 for a class, dinner, and a show!) I've experienced two instructors and they're both amazing! There's also a third instructor who occasionally steps in as a partner if an extra leader is needed for the Latin social class and he's very easy to dance with, so I imagine he's a good instructor, too!

Trish and her husband Ken are clearly building a dance community. They offer numerous group classes and private lessons for various types of dancing styles. All instructors are personable, professional, and knowledgeable. Additionally, Trish and Ken frequently schedule dance events and potlucks that allow for and help provide interaction, sharing, and support. Even though dance does not come easy to my husband and I - we have a great time learning and trying out our new skills. We would highly recommend Just Danze! The Palladium is located on a one-way freeway frontage road, so you can't make a U-turn to get there if you pass it up. But it's not one to avoid. The Palladium is not a franchise of a nationwide company named after Arthur Murray or Fred Astaire. It's a local concern, and doesn't offer as much as the other two studios I listed. I've gone to their Latin events, and here's what it looks like: They have in-house instructors, and also bring in people from outside Houston. (I wrote about California's Kathy Reyes in two prior reviews, I hope she's reading this and makes the trip to Houston some time!) They have classes, and they have dance parties. Both are run well, charging market rates. Lots of parking. One medium-sized dance floor, two smaller studios. The bar sells drinks, both alky and non-alky. Restrooms are deep in the bowels of the building, down the hall to the left. The people who come are a good company, and are fixinta learn to dance better and to have fun. The social dance community of Houston is smaller than in other cities, so there's much overlap from one instructor to another, and it's likely that you'll meet someone there who you danced with somewhere else. I haven't met any snobs yet, but you can't assume that they won't be there. I first went to the Palladium for New Years Eve. I've been several times since then. The experience was similar to others I've been to in other cities. I've had a good time, and never drove home thinking "well, that was a waste of a hundred mile drive one-way." Beaumont simply has nothing like The Palladium, likely because few people in the Coonie Triangle are interested in ballroom or Latin dancing. I encourage you to find a class or party and stop on by.

The studio provides a beautiful space, with mirrors, tables and chairs to hang out, and a nice dance floor. There is a wonderful community of friends, that gets together to dance, exercise, listen to music, and have a good time. There are always snacks for sharing, smiling faces, and lively music. I've been to a few lessons (very reasonably priced), have rented the studio for my daughter's birthday party(kids were overjoyed), and have stopped by just to chat with the dancers. Our instructor, Enrique, was very knowledgeable about the various dances that we wanted to learn (tango and salsa). She was patient and we both went away from the lesson feeling more comfortable with swing. As with anything, you really have to keep practicing the dance in order to retain the steps, but I can't fault Tanja if I've forgotten anything! Overall, definitely recommended!
