The restaurant has good ambience and is clean and orderly; however the food, based on my two visits there is passable at best. We tried the oxtails entree and the portion was small and too greasy. It was served with an ample portion of rice but the beans were about a half cup and most of that measure was liquid. The best part of the meal was the hot bread with butter for starters. For what is served, the price per meal was about $20 with tax, which for quality and quantity is quite overpriced. Not recommended. read more

Employee charged me up like she wanted to fight me!! Went to pickup an order my husband called in. The lady at the front told me they didn't have the order and to let her check. She was extremely rude and short. After talking on the phone and searching for the order for awhile, she went onto other closing tasks like sweeping and wouldn't communicate what happened to my order or if they could make it. I was just standing there as she ignored me. We had already been charged so I was trying to figure out how to at least get a refund. After she ignored me multiple times I took a picture of her ignoring me. She came around the counter at me screaming "you're crazy!!" I was just trying to figure out where my food and money was. We thought we were about to have an amazing experience. We were the only ones in the restaurant. The empanadas and fried yuca appetizers were so good. Then he took our order. The server was quite attentive. We were wrapping up our meal. A few minutes later it happened! One group of 12 walked in. And we lost our server. He hasn't been back to our table in 40 minutes!!!!!! Wonderful service and home cooked Cuban food that is nostalgic with every bite. The pork and beef are cooked well and there is plenty of food to fill you up. The Vaca Frita was my favorite dish! The staff has been very accommodating for small tables and larger family visits (can call to reserve a larger table since they only seat about 30-50 people at a time). Although I've only attached photos of the mofongo and bandeja appetizer, my favorite dish was the vaca frita! Quantity and quality was above average, and I would get this on my return visit as well. Each entree runs somewhere between ~$10-$15, and they are quite tasty! Not sure why reviews are so good. My experience was not good. Went here based on a reddit recommendation for great food in cypress, and I now question all reddit reviews. First, I had to send the tea back because it tasted "dirty," almost like they used bad water or a dirty machine. Second, one of the butter packets came open, and the bread was like a hot dog bun. I ordered the Mahi mahi and it was pretty bland. My wife got the steak and it was "the worst steak she ever had." I tasted it and it was super rubbery. Last, the napkin was a Klennex. yes, a Kleenex. Having have been to South Florida a handful of times last year, each time we went to a Cuban restaurant to try...both were excellent, when I was surfing Yelp for eats around this part of Houston I came across Rice and Beans ... and I knew I just had to try! I didn't have high expectations at first (since it was Cypress and not Miami) but I was proved wrong! We ordered 2 entrees for dinner, pork chops and my personal favorite the vaca frita. Both entrees came with rice & beans (of course) and plantains. I loved the vaca frita more than the pork chops, but both were excellent and pretty much on par to what I had in Florida. This an excellent place to experience Cuban Food. It is family-owned and operated. The food is prepared when you order and hot when you get it. My favor is Pechuga a la Plancha. I came to Rice and Beans on a Saturday night after finding it on Yelp. Having never tried Cuban food before, I was curious, and thought I'd swing for the fences and order something I had never heard of before and could barely pronounce. That's how I ended up with the mofongo. It's a curious looking dish that appears to be made of fried plantains and somehow tastes like pork. It's crunchy, denser than you'd expect, and can be very heavy if you're not used to eat fried foods. But its a really interesting flavor worth trying! The pork pieces were not very tender, but that seemed deliberate. The shrimp were cooked well, and overall I preferred the shrimp to the pork. Other than the food: Reasonably priced for what you get. They also have several nontraditional (I'm assuming Cuban) sodas and drinks they offer if that is something that interests you. The waitress was friendly and attentive. The place is small but has a homey interior. Parking didn't look like it would ever be an issue either. Overall, a solid place to try Cuban food if you're curious. Ugh I hate to do this to this place because I loved the food the first time I came. But I decided to get a different plate and a tamal to see how it taste. So the tamal was a one bite, throw away. There is no way the chef didn't notice! Unable to eat! The black beans were watered down! The Milanesa had some type of spice that the Cuban community never uses and ruined the taste. It was very disappointing. I've eaten at this place some years back. A friend of mine, took me there for their paella so we have some very close friends that we go to different restaurants on the weekends, trying different foods. We are all in the mood for paella. So I called made reservations and a problem was that was for the answer the phone that didn't speak good English, and had to wait for someone else to answer the phone to take her reservations and set us up for a dinner, we arrived and the girls got the pork and my wife got the sandwich and we got an appetizer which the plantains were great. My wife shared a sandwich and apparently no one really liked it. Then the paella came so everybody got a dish I was so disappointed in that the rice was gummy, the shrimp were overcooked the muscles were OK but I found that no one really ate them. The fish was good in there. You have to get drinks out of the refrigerator and you buy them per item which is it seems like that's the one thing. I would have to say that I would probably never go back, especially not order their paella you don't know how disappointed I was because I pick the restaurant I thought that this restaurant was on the up and up and had good food from my previous visit. read more

This place is absolutely legit! I am originally from Miami and my grandmother is from Cuba so I grew up eating homemade Cuban food and this place absolutely nails Cuban food. I came in for lunchtime and no one was there but that's OK because I ordered a Pan Con Bistec and it was absolutely delicious. The bread was definitely fresh the steak was tender and juicy the only thing I would've added was more potato sticks and ketchup and mayo.
