When I met with Dr. Thomas, he was warm, friendly, and assured me that he would do an amazing job and he did just that! My results were excellent and I haven't had an issue with my right knee since. I recently visited Dr. Thomas for pain I was experiencing in my left knee and he gave me a thorough examination and prescribed an MRI. I have comfort in knowing that I am in the best hands possible, and whatever the MRI results are, I am confident that Dr. Walter will have me back on track in no time! He's very thorough and knows what he is doing! I trust him and his ability to repair any damages. He is also very conservative, in that he will not force you to put unnecessary pressure on your injury that may damage the work he's done to repair area surgery was performed on. Dr. Thomas is one of the most compassionate doctors that I know and he is excellent at explaining any and everything you could ask...one of the main reasons I will choose him always if I need an orthopedic surgeon. His office is about 40 - 50 minutes away from where I live depending on traffic, but I would drive 2-hours in distance just to have him treat me, that's how good he and his team are!

When I went in for my results, the doctor's assistant didn't even know I had already completed the MRI -- she wasn't sure why I was there. I had to explain my back issues all over again, and then she said I needed an X-ray. I told her I came in for my MRI results, and she seemed surprised and asked who referred me. I explained it was the Oxnard office. She then said, "The doctor likes to have both." This left me confused, because my understanding is that an MRI usually provides more than enough detail. On top of that, I had just paid nearly $600 for the MRI. When I asked if my insurance would cover the X-ray, she replied, "They should." My complaint is this: patients need to be informed up front if additional tests are being recommended and whether those tests might require another copay or out-of-pocket costs. It shouldn't just be assumed that insurance will cover it. If the doctor wants both MRI and X-ray, that's fine -- but patients should be given the choice and a clear explanation, especially when significant costs are involved. On top of that, I have been trying to get in touch with the office manager, leaving several voicemails, and still have not received a call back. I think patients should always have the right to seek a second opinion and not just be expected to go along with what one doctor says. Extra tests mean extra money to the office, and we deserve transparency and options before being billed.

The biggest issue is the staff. Whenever we need paperwork, medical records, a referral, or really any type of request, we are made to feel as though we are bothering them. There seems to be very little urgency or concern, and it routinely takes days just to get a response. The office experience isn't much better. Every time we have had an appointment, we have waited at least an hour in a small, uncomfortable waiting room with the television blasting soap operas or other programming at a volume that makes an already unpleasant wait even worse. Even more surprising for an orthopedic practice, the restroom is not conveniently located inside the office. Patients have to go out the door and down an outdoor hallway to use it. Many of the people coming to an orthopedist are dealing with broken bones, serious injuries, pain, walkers, crutches, or limited mobility. You would expect an orthopedic office to be designed with those patients in mind. Our biggest concern, though, is simply the overall lack of care and compassion we have felt from the office staff. When people are dealing with injuries and pain, a little kindness, responsiveness, and understanding go a long way. Dr. Calderone may be a good doctor, but in our experience, he needs a more caring and responsive staff and an office environment that better accommodates orthopedic patients. Unfortunately, based on our experiences, we will not be returning and cannot recommend this office.

I waited over an hour and a half to see the doctor, and when I was finally seen, my appointment took place in a casting room rather than what I would consider a normal exam room. After waiting that long, I expected a thorough appointment and some meaningful direction regarding my ongoing workers' compensation injury. Instead, I felt completely dismissed. Dr. Deitel repeatedly asked me what I wanted to do, even after I explained that I am not the medical professional and that I was there because I wanted help getting better. I was looking to my physician to evaluate my condition, explain my options, and guide my treatment. I left feeling like there was very little interest in actually helping me or addressing my ongoing symptoms. The interaction felt unprofessional and dismissive, and I walked out without confidence that my injury was being appropriately managed. Dealing with an injury and the workers' compensation system is difficult enough. Waiting more than 90 minutes only to leave an appointment feeling like I was expected to figure out my own medical treatment was incredibly frustrating. After this experience, I have requested an immediate transfer of my care to another provider and will not be returning to Dr. Deitel.

After scheduling two months worth of PT, the very next day one of their staff calls telling me that they no longer accept my insurance! Typical. America the "GRATE" sucks too. So I have to go back to my PCP. (A child that they gave a certificate to, but has to get an "okay" from anybody else before doing ANYTHING at all!). I have to wait for them to refer me to somebody else. It's all a waiting game. By the time I get another referral to another QUACK, and this idiot is worse than the first one... I could have driven to Tj and back and gotten healed already!!!!! Then V.O. Calls me back, telling me that the clinic doesn't accept my insurance, but Dr. G does, and he would like to continue w/ my treatment. Great. We make an appointment. We keep the appointment . Only to be told, by the Dr. himself, that they are no longer going to see/treat me, due to the insurance mess! Those of you who are dumb enough to even call this place, don't say you weren't warned.
