Dr. Sweet has been amazing! I lived with pain from a shoulder problem for years. It dramatically limited my ability to enjoy my favorite recreational activities. After moving to the Central Coast, I was unable to find a local orthopedist who could competently address the issue (including one who told me to just "treat it with drugs for the rest of my life"). I found Dr. Sweet through an internet search and was thoroughly impressed by his educational and work credentials. I got a prompt appointment and evaluation by his very capable Nurse Practitioner, Helena, and I received a call a few days later from his surgical staff to schedule my surgery. The arthroscopic procedure was a huge success and I am pain free and completely off pain medication. Dr. Sweet and his staff are very professional, and he has a good sense of humor. He was excellent at explaining the surgery to me, including the specific results. It was well worth the 2.5 hour drive to be treated by him, and I will recommend him wholeheartedly! Not only did he answer all my questions regarding my separated shoulder (mountain bike accident) but he went above and beyond in acquiring proper imaging so he could make a precise diagnosis. It is so nice to find a surgeon you can absolutely trust especially considering I've never even had surgery before! Orthopaedic Medicine is a difficult practice to make all your patients happy but Dr. Sweet pulls it off with ease. Doctor Sweet was as professional as they come! Not only did he provide excellent care, but he knew how to present information in an understandable way. Dr. Sweet is the best. I'm so happy he's in town. I've had carpal tunnel release which (for some weird reason) I was very nervous. Dr. Sweet and the OR staff were wonderful and put me at ease. Great outcome! About six months later I had total reverse shoulder replacement. Rough rough procedure and recovery process but again Dr Sweet was great. Hospital staff was remarkable as well. I was pretty terrified about function after this surgery but now, 11 months post-surgery, I'm doing great! Pain free and pretty good range of motion. I'm eventually having my second shoulder done and wouldn't have anyone other than Dr. Sweet. I would refer him to anyone (and have) without reservation. Office can be a bit of a bear with wait times, but overall you just can't go wrong here. Such great expertise, great bedside manners, and talent. Happy camper over here! read more

I am surprised at the negative reviews for the office staff. They were always accommodating and professional in my many dealings with them during my visits for rotator cuff surgery. I was very pleased with Dr. Sweet. He spent time explaining my injury, options, and expected recovery if I decided to have surgery, which I did. Dr. Stephan Sweet is more than just a great doctor.... DR. SWEET IS A MIRACLE DOCTOR! For a small back story of myself, I am 26 years old, I don't play any sports, I work and I go to school. I have had floating knee caps for approximately 5 years. They would flair up and I would wear knee braces on both knees and after a few weeks they would calm down. I could play with my knees and pop them in and out. It was always very painful. Over the 5 years I had been to approximately 8 Orthopedic doctors. One doctor gave me a medication I was allergic to, then told me I was to complicated and that he could not deal with me and left. A few others could not get my name correct when they walked into the room and there after so lost my trust. Then there was the one in UCLA who wanted to "saw off" part of my knee bone and replace it with cartilage. Then two weeks later decided I just needed physical therapy and did not need me as a patient anymore. I never just needed physical therapy. So instead of going towards UCLA I went the other direction.... I found a doctor who was willing to a "Lateral Release." some injections into my knees for the pain. Plus he got my name right. I then had my knee fill up with fluid twice... This is where I thought I was not having the right communication with that doctor. I felt helpless again. FINALLY I FOUND DOCTOR STEPHEN SWEET!!!! I called and I believe I had an appointment for the next day! I brought any and all paperwork I had for him. I even brought some candy for him. (he liked that) Out of all the other doctors I had been through, Dr. Sweet listened to EVERY descriptive word I had to give. He truly listened to what I was saying. He wanted to take X-Rays of my hips incase something was missed (EXCELLENT IDEA) nothing showed but it was an attempt to solve my problem. Because I had surgery on one knee, he was willing to take me on as a patient and continue my care. I WAS SO HAPPY! Then a few weeks later I felt like I was regressing, and that my knee was filling up with fluid again. I got an appointment for that same day! The staff is so amazing and accommodating. He came right in and I showed him where I thought the fluid was. He agreed with me that there was some fluid but there was not enough to take out. After explaining why it made since. I did not feel dismissed or rejected at all by him. I actually felt validated for something that I was feeling. Dr. Sweet is truly an amazing doctor, he has a passion for caring about every patient that he sees because of how much time he spends with each and every one. He understands that you are in pain and wants to find the best course to fixing it. The staff bends over backwards into helping as well. Well a year later and I started having carpal tunnel in both my hands. I knew I was going to go straight to Dr. Sweet. Amazingly he remembered me. He came in with a smile on his face and eager to help me. When I went to see him I was on the breaking point of tears. But I knew if anyone could help me, it would be him. I needed something to happen or I truly thought I was going to lose my job. He lisened to everything I said about both my hands. He needed 1 test to confirm that it was carpal tunnel. After that, he said that he would perform surgery on my hands. He started with the left one... I am left handed so I was nervous starting off with my dominant hand. But I trusted Dr. Sweet. So the day of surgery he made me feel comfortable and answered questions and was very positive about it. About 2 days after surgery I could feel my fingers. (Could not feel them for 5 months.). I was so excited and happy that I could see a difference so quickly. The day my stitches were removed I could make a fist and I had feeling through my whole hand. I was so happy. Then about 2 weeks ago I had my right hand done. Literally the next day after surgery I could feel my fingers. I could kind of feel my hand but it was wrapped up. I just got my stitches out today and I feel all my fingers and my hand. I am so confident in what Dr. Sweet did. I know that when I go back to work in a few weeks I will be ready. I quickly could tell a difference by what he did. He is truly a very caring, kind, optimistic, extraordinary, inspiring, friendly, fabulous, positive, genuinely talented Doctor. Dr Sweet saved my kneecap and kept me from having to have total knee replacement after I shattered it into eight pieces. He was always kind and informative and answered all of my questions in ways I could understand. I would recommend him to anybody I know. He is top notch. I went to Dr. Sweet for a brief follow-up visit after breaking my toe. I had already received medical attention, split, etc. at the Urgent Care two weeks prior and this was simply a follow-up visit to look at it. I was absolutely shocked when I subsequently received an invoice Dr. Sweet's office had charged by insurance company for over $600 for a 10 min. brief office visit. This invoice was even higher than the charges from Urgent Care who had taken x-rays, provided me with a special shoe, etc and which visit lasted about 2 hours! When I questioned Dr. Sweet (via formal letter) I received a response letter indicating how he attempted to justify his charge as a "package" which included evaluation of fracture, first cast or split application and 90 days of follow-up. He referenced some CPT code and codebook (which of course HE selected for charging the services). His code reference makes no sense for the actual services I received for for which I had made the appointment for. The appointment was NOT made for any type of package services and Dr. Sweet did absolutely nothing but briefly look at my toe (as a follow-up recommendation from the doctor who treated it originally). It was simply a brief 10 minute appointment for which I paid my co-pay. There should have been no additional charges. I am so disgusted with how some doctors attempt to abuse the insurance system and I will be filing a formal objection with my insurance company regarding this. Dr. Sweet should be absolutely ashamed of himself for trying to bill my insurance for service that not only he did not perform, but services that he was not requested to do and then trying to justify his actions rather than apologizing and correcting this matter. read more
