We have been going to Dr. Veselak for different injuries for over 20 years and he has always been able to treat our various pains with great care. The only time he was not able to treat my pain was over a decade ago and he told me to go home and wait 2-3 days and if the pain was not better see a orthopedic specialist. That time he didn't charge me since he did not perform any treatment. I don't know of any other doctor who would treat their patients this way. I've worked with Dr. Mike Veselak for 30 years now - wanting to keep my body in alignment as I age....now, far closer to 70 than 60! Let me start with this. The Gentleman excels with common sense and deep knowledge of his field. He also listens to you and factors YOUR body. Then let me add Dr/patient trust...which comes/grows from the previous comments. These past two years have been super stressful as I walked with a dear young friend and colleague through her terminal cancer journey. In July 2021, I developed a headache. I never get headaches - chalked it up to the windy days and allergies. The headache hung on for some 2 weeks...my neck and shoulders were tight. I scheduled and saw Dr. Mike. He checked me head to toe - YES, my shoulders and neck were tight - he did an adjustment and off I went. I am fortunate to be very loose jointed - bend like a pretzel and thought that would be the end of my headache. Come Monday, still had the headache and scheduled another appointment...I had a bit of a tingle in my neck and face as I turned my head - thought I had overdone my daily 8+ hours of computer time. Dr. Mike walked in - I shared the details - he looked down and said, "Patti, I see a bit of a red flag. It's that tingling and the fact that you never have headaches. Let's not do anything today - but here is what I want you to do. Get in your car and drive directly to your medical Dr. - tell the front desk exactly what you have told me and ask to have a blood pressure reading." I did just that - took my BP reading. Was 210/140. I was in 'Hypertensive Crisis' - immediate danger of a stroke. I was with my Dr. for some three hours as they retested me over and over again throughout the time. Never dropped. I was immediately sent for a Stat CT w/wo contrast. Came back negative for stroke or other milder events. Started BP meds that night. Let me add - no muscle weakness - no dizziness - no slurred speech. NOTHING would have led me to believe I was in such danger. I had life long LOW BP! Several take-aways on this. If not for me seeking medical help by listening to my body....if not for Dr. Mike Veselak's deep knowledge AND his amazing ability to treat and listen to EACH patient individually, I would have had a stroke and perhaps died. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Veselak and his office. I have gone to see him on a handful of occasions over the past year and a half for back, neck and shoulder pain that I had been experiencing since my early twenties (I'm 30 now). When I first came into his office he examined me and asked me questions about my health and diet. He explained to me that I had a lot of inflammation in my stomach which was causing me pain in my shoulders, back and neck. I was shocked that he discovered that since I have had stomach issues my whole life (that had never been properly diagnosed) and I didn't mention that to him until afterward. Long story short, I started eliminating certain foods from my diet starting with dairy and then Gluten. Soy was next but I was impatient and decided to get allergy tested. Come to find I am allergic to so many things like yeast and beans?! but the number one culprit is SOY. I have been eating soy my whole life, especially during my 7 years as a pescetarian. After cutting out soy as much as possible and cutting back on coffee, I have gotten so much relief from my stomach pain and it's helped my neck and shoulder pain as well. I still have some issues with my back due to years of bad posture at a computer, but I will be going to get adjusted every few months to keep that in check. I write this as I am about to move out of state. I don't know how I will ever find a doctor as good as Michael Veselak. I have been to many Chiropractors during my 63 years. I have had very mixed results with most of them. Dr. Veselak was referred to me by a professional trainer a few years ago. Seeing him was the best thing I ever did. Although I am now older, I am still very active. I am a retired Law Enforcement officer who likes all the "guy" stuff. Motorcycles, fast cars, hunting, fishing, shooting. The kind of things that I thought I might have to give up when I was diagnosed with severe spinal stenosis. I went to a top orthopedic surgical center in Van Nuys. They work miracles on broken cops, firefighters and athletes. I had X-Rays, Neurological tests, MRIs and steroid shots. Nothing stopped the pain. I was resigned to get lumbar surgery even though there was no guarantee that it would solve my very unique problem. I worked with Dr. Veselak for a long time. We got to know each other very well and I knew he took a very personal interest in helping me. He tried many techniques that brought some relief for periods of time but the problem recurred. Bear in mind that none of the procedures were painful, he is the most gentile guy! At one point he decided to go outside of the box and look at my diet. He had me make some simple changes in my eating habits and kept an eye on my progress. Wow, I had immediate relief and I ended up losing 15 pounds and a couple of inches off my waist. These were things I wanted and needed to do anyway! Dr. Veselak is a realist when it comes to orthopedic surgery. He reviewed the surgery that was recommended for me and agreed that that would be the procedure that would be most appropriate for me. The concern he and the surgeon had was that my case was not typical. Neither one of them was positive that the surgery would solve the problem. BOTH of them agreed that if I could get relieve without the surgery, that would be the best way for me to go. So, I continue to keep the pain and the surgery at bay thanks to Dr. Veselak. I had pain in my shoulder for over a year. My Orthopedist said it was bursitis and instructed me to go physical therapy. I went for several weeks to a large facility where everyone was very nice but I was shuffled around and seen by several different people in each visit. My shoulder improved although not 100%. Back to the Orthopedist who now had me get an MRI and instructed me to go back to PT. Looking for a more personal experience, a tennis friend of mine raved about Dr. Vesalak. I had never been to a chiropractor before but since he also has a physical therapist in his office I made an appointment. He confirmed the bursitis diagnosis but the main problem was my shoulder was not rotating in the socket, it was almost frozen. The treatment at his office was much more personal, I was not shuffled around and only saw him and the wonderful PT on his staff. After seeking a functional doctor for sometime, Dr. Veselak was highly recommended by several families in my community. In 2003, I was told I have condition and that there was nothing I can do, fatty liver not related to alcohol. I didn't seek help at that time. But, in 2016, I had an ultrasound and there was a secondary finding...my liver again. This time it was more than double the normal size, still fatty and now with an inflamed portal vein. How could this be? I eat well, I'm athletic and rarely drink. I was sent to a Gasto doc by my insurance and I was told there wasn't anything I can do or that he could do to help. There had to be and I wanted answers as to why my liver was this way. I then saw Dr. V. Tests were ran, and I finally had an answer. I was put on a plan after genetic testing and waited to do my follow up ultrasound for about 6 months. I wanted to see if Dr V's plan was working. I moved out of the area and am now looking for a new chiropractor. It occurred to me that I had been remiss in not posting a review of Dr. Veselak. It's the least I can do for his wonderful care of my upper back and neck over the last three years or so. Here are the reasons for my 5 star rating: The doctor is highly knowledgeable about his craft, and gives me the impression that he cares enough to always update his knowledge level. He has a soft touch with adjustment and prescribes only treatment(s) and number of visits your condition requires. He definitely has a holistic approach to health. From a personality standpoint, he's funny, personable, and conversant about various topics. From a cost standpoint, he is not particularly expensive, and I say this after having seen about 4 other chiropractors in Ventura County prior to him. He was personally referred by my primary physician. What more can I say besides I will miss him greatly. I can only hope I can find a replacement who is as competent and caring. The doctor is great, and so is Marilyn at the front desk! When I first started with Dr. Veselak, his front office was sort of managed by himself and another service provider in his office.
