I do not recall seeing this flavor before in moonshine but I love all things butterscotch! They had a pretty good crowd there when we arrived. Not too bad for a weeknight in Emporia! They have the cutest outdoor seating area but no one was sitting outside when we arrived. The food menu was smaller than I expected it to be but I suppose if you are there to enjoy some cocktails with friends, the offerings are on target. I was honestly hoping for more menu items to pair with their distillery offerings, especially if I want to try a tasting/flight. You aren't going to bring the family here for brunch or dinner. It isn't that kind of place. I am not sure if they have event space but it has that sort of trendy yet unique vibe that I would consider when selecting a venue for my events. This is a cool spot. I love the craft cocktail, distillery category, rooted in the Prohibition, Speakeasy, and bootlegger history. This is one trend I hope to see continue! We arrived a bit early to order a cocktail and a large table was reserved and waiting for us. Our tour guide Shannon was impressive in her knowledge of the entire distillation, aging, bottling and the entire alcohol industry in general. Educational and quick with answers to all of our questions. I can't recommend this tour enough. After we concluded the backroom tour, we were greeted by a 5-cup sampling of the Gins, Irish Whiskeys and Vodka, with another in depth oration from our guide on what we were tasting. We then ordered more cocktails of our favorites - I went with the Gin Margaritas and Gin Palomas. I forgot how much I enjoyed gin. Soon afterwards they started music bingo and we had a blast, one of our crew even won a couple of cool prizes. The proprietor Adam has a first-class operation and one heck of a team that goes the extra yard to make sure that your stay is first class. Special Kudos to Rona and Masha also. Seeing a scary cave movie IN a cave "theater" - yes please! But I did NOT expect to love the unique location and distillery as much as I did. SD Strong Distillery is about 30 minutes outside of Kansas City, MO, so not too far of a drive at all. The Distillery is located in the Parkville Commercial Underground, a business park underneath the University of Park University (let's see how many more times I can say PARK haha) Once you find the location and enter the cavernous business park, you'll find a place to park and then walk your way through some cavey looking tunnels to the SD Strong Distillery. Once there you will definitely feel like you're in both a cave and a distillery, with barrels for aging outside the door and a craggly stone roof over your head. The drinks were amazing, especially the in-house distilled bourbon, used in a few mixed drinks that were delicious. The staff were awesome, particularly with handling all the people who were there for the movie event. The film was shown in a side room that was extra dark (perfect for movie watching), and it was the best way to end our experience!
