First of all it was their second anniversary party so it was BUSY, but we didn't let that stop us from checking them out! We figured out pretty fast that they have tons of great IPAS and Hazy IPAs on tap which are our favorites. Honestly, I think these are some of the best in the metro area, right up there with Alma Mater and City Barrel for me. The ambiance is chill, and the folks working kind. Case in point if your brewery only holds 83 people and you book a 70 person party- number one, just don't. Number two, use business logic and common sense and make it a rule that parties over a certain number have to rent out the space entirely for a private party. And number three, most definitely don't double book your business- heck in this case triple book (with the Saul's pop up bound to bring in a tier of customers you don't normally have) The sour beer was our favorite because, it was only slightly tart and zesty with slight citrus notes, it wasn't too sour and sharp. It was easy to drink which sometimes sour beers are not. I would order this again however, both the IPAS I tried were just okay...the New England one I preferred more, the hop profile was more in line with a slightly piney taste, it was fine.

The only downside was that they quit serving beer at halftime of the game we were watching. The game that went into extra time and on to penalty kicks. So we sat there for an hour and a half, thirsty, pockets full of unspent cash, watching the game while the neglected taps mercilessly mocked us. It honestly seemed baffling and inane beyond belief. They have a happy hour from 4-6 p.m. In the winter they usually run a special where you get a discount for sitting outside in the cold. I've done that a few times. The loyal following will be always be, well, loyal. Do they need better parking? Yes Would I go if parking stinks? Also yes. Micro-brewing is entering its fifth decade in the Kansas City area. Sure, beermaking has been around since the monks were cooking up something to drink to go along with their pretzels. But because of changes in federal legislation, Americans brewing their own has taken on so many different regional and local forms. Do you like lagers and old German-style darker beer? The original colonial Americas might have your thing. Oh, you like hoppy, with piney IPAs and freshly-hopped brew? The Pacific Northwest is your jam. And so forth. And then there are outfits like BKS. There are hops on hops, with double and triple IPAs, hazy and juicy. There are the deeply boozy Belgian-style trippels, or Japanese style rice lagers, or English ales where the glass of bier has to settle before drinking. BKS is doing a little of everything and doing almost any beer really, really well. The staff is very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about beer, making suggestions even to the seasoned or the complete amateur when it comes to beer profiles.
