Stopped in Scarsdale to pick up a few things on my way to CT from LGA. Balducci's is a great store. Lots of Italian specialty items, prepared foods, and a nice looking bakery. I really like Balducci's because of their fresh fruit selection, but their new app for savings is super annoying. It used to be that when you went to check out, all you had to do was input your phone number into their machine to get savings. Now you have to go to the app on your phone (which can mean you have to put on reading glasses), and you have to wait for it to load, scan your member code, and clip coupons on your phone. It's a major pain in the neck. I always ask the employees to help me with it because I can't stand it. Plus, it slows down the line . I hope Balducci's will do away with this soon. When we go shopping, we don't want to have to do all of this to get savings. I would have given Balducci's 4 or 5 stars if it hadn't been for the app. read more

I love this store so much. They have so many fun items that are on the healthier side. Their hot bar and soup bar are great for a grab and go lunch/dinner. They have coffee shop where you can sit and have a bevy. The staff working the counters are nice. I wish it wasn't so expensive but I can't stop going when I want something different. read more

I shop here @ once per week, and noticed I am overcharged for groceries on most visits. Yesterday, we purchased a pumpkin that was marked $5.99. It rang up for $9.99 and the cashier would not make the adjustment. Unfortunately, I let that go. As I left, I looked at the display that was clearly posted, "white silhouette pumpkins, $5.99." Going forward, I will have them charge the posted price on items -- and I hope other shoppers will do the same. read more

Love Balducci's. Needed to have a clean day after days of holiday indulgence. Plenty of organics, many ready to grab and go... especially for those like us who were visiting. The food is fresh, high end, and super expensive. It gets five stars for fresh, 5 stars for taste and -1 Star for cost. What do I like--salad bar is awesome; meat showcase is Inspiring and deli counter is humungous. Also they have a bakery that will rival many a stand alone bakery. Went to Balducci's, filled up my shopping cart, and was told there were no shopping bags in the store. The staff blamed it on corporate, stating that they have changed the way shopping bags were distributed to stores. I suggested that they should shut the store if customers have no method of bringing their goods home. I was told this was not possible. We visited NY over the summer to visit family and I popped into Balducci's as I was in the area getting my hair done across the street. It's definitely one of those boutique stores. Small, expensive, but I did find a good selection of Gluten free and vegan snacks (which because of allergies, I need). The layout of the store is really strange. I realized at check out that I missed something on my list because I somehow missed a whole aisle in the middle. It's also very pricey. To be fair, I live in Seattle and this pricing is very similar to home so it wasn't the worst sticker shock. If I lived local, I don't think this would be my go-to place to shop for sure. There were a couple of people at registers and thankfully no line so I could pop back and grab the one item I missed. Nobody seemed overly friendly or rude. Just meh. read more

Post-pandemic prices are atrocious, even compared to the overall level of inflation. The owners are shamefully taking advantage of the affluent zip code to gouge customers. And as others have noted, they effectively gutted the rewards program. I will still stop by for one or two items if I'm in a hurry, but they've lost a decade-long customer for life. This seems like a great store and has lots of options. However, I was not greeted by any employees. Actually, the entire time I was in the store (10-15 minutes) I didn't see an employee and was not asked if I needed help, although, I definitely got lost and asked a few other customers questions. In addition to not being a "user friendly" store, I am definitely not paying $7 for a bag of chips. Insane. This store is super over priced. Four apples for over $13. Fage brand yogurt for $12 (other stores charge about $6). Avocados for $5 each. A bag of mandarins -- the same brand you can find at Stop & Shop? $12. This shouldn't even be legal. Great selection but ludicrous upcharging like I've never seen before. An upscale grocery store charging a premium on hard to find items makes sense; charging double and triple for items you can get at any grocery store in the country? Idiotic. If there was an option for zero stars I would put that. Expired Food for $$$, bought Mac N Cheese from deli on 1/1/2022, it was expired on 12/30/2021. When I came to return it manager told me that it expired today. I had to update her on what date is today. Day before that was buying discounted holiday chocolates, one item wasn't discounted in the system, took 2 managers and 30 minutes of my life to explain to them how to divide 40$ by 2. After that uneducated manager took my receipt and left. I asked for my receipt and she said she doesn't have it. I lost my cool and then after her running around for few minutes she found it. If this is a level of intelligence of their managers, not surprised expired food is sitting on the shelf. Horrible service, expired food, but they charge almost double comparing to bigger super markets. Never going there again. read more

I dont know what happened to Balduccis in Scarsdale, NY, but I have been coming for years to this store and in the last few months, there seems to be new management and new rules. Dont bother asking for help- you will NOT find any employees. They are very understaffed, employees look burned out and sad and have no time for customers like they once did. I was in the store yesterday and asked a manager/employee who was walking around aimlessly by the name of " Dave " for help. He knew absolutely nothing, didnt help me resolve and instead told me he would get someone. Who is he going to get when there are NO EMPLOYEES?? WHY COULDNT "DAVE" help me??? 15-20 min passed and I left, I dont have that type of time to waste when I can go to Whole Foods and get better service/better food and quality experience. I have spoken with a number of employees and they all share that they are now understaffed. I cannot continue to support a business I once loved when they clearly treat their employees like dirt. Food quality is among the things that has gone down too. Beautiful pastries and desserts are now low quality and it is obviously not the same. I arranged for a bouquet in the flower dept and was told to come back because there was only 1 person working. Went to bakery dept and wanted my usual cappuccino and nobody was there. I asked the front cashier where is anybody for the coffee station and they told me " do you want a regular coffee bc there's nobody there to make a cappuccino ?" Where is everybody and why is this place once again severely understaffed? It seems these employees are treated like slaves. When you're in the store, you can hear every two minutes someone on the inter comm trying to reach someone to get help to a customer because they're so severely understaffed. This is a nerve wracking, anxiety inducing experience. I do not want to go to the market and be stressed out. Goodbye Balduccis, and hello Whole Foods. read more

When describing my new neighborhood to Manhattan friends I lost track of how many times I said, "...and Balducci's is around the corner." Beautiful store, wonderful, friendly, helpful employees - one cashier (older woman) actually said, "welcome to Scarsdale - do you know about our rewards program?" after I told her I just moved. I shop at BJs and Costco often as well and although I understand why reviews comment on price this is a gourmet and speciality food store. It's just a different kind of store. read more

You go to Balducci's for quality and service. Yes, it's more expensive but I'd rather eat terrific fruit for more $$ than buy tasteless fruit for less and throw half of it out. They also have an excellent butcher shop, seafood shop, and appetizing (best roasted sweet chili brussel sprouts in the world, even for those of us that don't particularly like brussel sprouts). They also have an amazing assortment of groceries for a non-huge store. Also great service HOWEVER they just added self-checkout which, in all honesty, sucks, in a store where the cashiers bag and seal your purchases and actually smile. read more

I purchased a california roll and cole slaw here the other night. A few hours after eating these products I had a horrific case of food poisoning. (Like Staph toxin.) I shop here occasionally because of its convenient location, but I find the prices to be nuts, and the quality of the produce especially to be pretty disappointing. Balducci's is one of those places you only ever go to for one or two things. They have the highest quality beef in upstate New York, outside of local farmer's markets. I always get beef from them, but nothing else is really worth what you pay. You can get the same quality vegetables and nonperishables (often better) from DeCicco, Stew Leonard's or even some ShopRite locations at half the price. Hell even Whole Foods is less expensive. But if you want a really good steak, this is the place to go. read more

Balducci's: Think Adam's in Newburgh, N.Y., only smaller, more expensive, and with better cars in the parking lot. That's Balducci's in a nutshell. You don't really need to know anything more than that, but in case you're curious, Balducci's offers a fine selection of fruits and vegetables; specialty foods; lovely cakes and coffee; and a small but fully-stocked fish and meat counter, as well as a prepared-foods counter that is a sight to behold. I've bought fish here because it's generally fresher than at other area supermarkets. At the prices they charge, it'd better be. Nothing here is cheap - a bag of Tate's cookies, baked and shipped in from the Hamptons, costs nearly $6 - and you'll find that most products cost at least twice what they would in another supermarket. This is not the place to do full-on shopping; indeed, with only five checkout lanes and narrow but pleasantly-stocked aisles, the store isn't really designed for the type of heavy-duty shopping that most people do on a weekly basis. Also, there are precious few non-food products, such as cleaning items, for sale here. That would be so. . . plebeian. This store is designed for the foodie in you, the dinner party maven in you, the gourmet cook in you. Indeed, even the magazine stands by the registers are stocked full of cooking magazines and copies of "Elle Decor." You won't find "Cosmo" or "Us Weekly" and their garish headlines at this joint. To round out the cash-register refinery, there is a stock of Lindt chocolates to tempt those waiting to ring up their purchases. If you can manage to get out of the store parking lot, which is ridiculously small, you will be left with a considerably lighter wallet but alive to the idea of what a high-end supermarket is and can be. It's Balducci's. It's expensive. It's snotty. It's gourmet food shopping at its best. read more

Just went to Balducci's for probably the millionth time in my life- grew up there as a kid when it was called Hayday. I walked around the store looking for chocolate covered pretzels and found one bag that had 6 pretzels for ten bucks, so I walked around again. Then this rude attendant who worked there comes over and obnoxiously asks me if I am looking for something. I tell her pretzels and she literally throws the same overpriced bag at me while pointing to a different carton of even more expensive pretzels. I asked her if this was all they had and she rudely asked me what else I could possibly want, and basically pushed me out of the store. Experiences like this are truly not worth my time. Way too rude, way too expensive. Save your money and go to Trader Joes. read more

When I moved to Westchester in 1996, this store, then called Hay Day, served the same role in Westchester that the Sixth Avenue Balducci's did in Manhattan - the best full line gourmet supermarket in the area. Time have changed, and this location was bought out, and merged with Balducci's. In the mean time, Whole Foods, Fairway and Tarry Market have emerged as rivals. Despite the competition, I still shop at Balducci's, taking advantage of their membership plan which offers a monthly coupon for a 10% discount on the entire store, and a $10 voucher for every $250 you spend. Used together, this amounts to a discount of approximately 14% on everything I buy, which takes the sting out of the high prices. You enter the store via a well curated produce department strongest in fruit - citrus this time of year, apples and pears in the fall, heirloom tomatoes in summer. The fruit salads are usually much better than supermarket quality. There are usually good offerings in the new potato, fingerling potato area, and on occasion, nice chanterelles. Onto the meat department, which is the strongest department in the store. Giovanni and crew do a great job- hangar steak is separated into its constituent muscles and sinews are removed, ground beef is fresh and prime steak is well cut and attractively presented. They will flaten chickens for the grill. If the Wagyu steak is on sale, it is actually a bargain. At Super Bowl time, expect to see coarse chopped meat for chili. D'Artagnan products are in the case. Fish is usually fresh, but prices strike me as quite high, particularly for halibut, chilean sea bass and shrimp. A recent reorganization has consolidated deli with prepared foods. While the store is now more attractive and feels more spacious, this seems to have led to a decline in service at the deli side. Sandwiches are quite good, particularly the Old Georgetown, with turkey and bacon. However, I do not think the store is making an effort to compete at the highest level, for example I did not see any Iberico ham which they used to carry, on my last visit. Balducci's does a decent job with appetizing, the whitefish salad is good and they slice nova or scottish salmon to order. In general I think the prepared foods here are better than at the local Whole Foods - less attractive sometimes, but better seasoned. The new counters have improved the aesthetics. The rotisserie chickens seem to be a favorite with the locals. The Jewish holiday foods are hit or miss. Brisket is pretty good although usually sliced too thick - kugel pretty bad. We nearly always go for the prepared vegetables - sauteed spinach, broccoli rabe,etc. which are usually excellent. The spinach is a good deal and fresh spinach cooks down so much. Cheese is, for the most part pre-cut, although the recent reorganization means the department is staffed and you can get something cut to order. It's not up to level of cheese at a Fairway, roughly on par with Whole Foods. Years ago, the bread department carried Pain Poilane, and Balducci's still brings in specialty breads from artisanal bakers, but it's not the strongest department in the store. There are also cakes and pies, but I don't usually plump for them. The bagels are better than the croissants. There is a large selection of oils, vinegars, pastas, canned goods etc. For the most part these are luxury brands at high prices, but the discount brings them down to earth. Sale coffee can be a bargain. At times there are good prices on Puerto Rico Yauco, hard to find elsewhere in Westchester. For those who want to consume something in store there is a coffee bar and a refrigerated case near the checkout counter offers a good supply of cold drinks. Overall this a quality establishment offering a high level of service. read more

Very rude staff. I brought my ESA in with me and held her in my arms the entire time I shopped. Employees gave me immense trouble and dismissed me when I tried to explain. At the point of checkout, the high school age girl they had working was very rude and unfriendly. She didn't seem willing to help and acted as if I was a bother to her! Will never shop here again. We've been to Balduccis a few times and always had a tasty sandwich or prepared salad. Expensive but tasty. But the other day my friends picked up latkes, brisket, matzoh ball soup, mini bagels, and black and white cookies and the only thing halfway decent were the latkes. The latkes needed to be crisped up but they were okay and the cinnamon applesauce was good. Otherwise the brisket was dry and not tasty (and outrageously priced), it wasn't even worth finishing the matzoh ball soup (which is hard to screw up), and the black and whites weren't as good as ones from Whole Foods. The bagels weren't close to real/good bagels. Overall completely disappointing. read more

Found everything I needed and wanted. Everything is fresh, displayed in clean dishes and the showcases are clean. Easy to find items whether meat, fish, produce, prepared food or desserts. After a long time of searching for fresh white potatoes, I found them here.I used to shop at Balducci's in NYC but they screwed up by selling to a corporation and eventually closed. They're open now but it isn't the same. My family is used to truly good food no matter the price. For all you cheap bastards go to Stew Lenards or Trader Joe's. read more

I've never been to this market but so far I am deeply unimpressed. I am searching for Halo Top ice cream which is a brand not found in normal chain supermarkets. I called Balduccis to ask if they had it in stock as Halo Tops website lists them as a distributer. I first talked to a man who put me on hold for over TWELVE minutes. So figuring they forgot about me, I called back and asked the female if they carry the ice cream. She came back to the phone 30 seconds later and said they do. I asked if she happened to catch the price and she said with an attitude that she didn't check. I haven't even been to this market and now I'm not sure I will ever go based off this experience. read more

Love it here! There ARE things that you can't find anywhere else. You know, like offbeat biscotti's and protein drinks. Baked good are to die for and they have specialty brands that are good, however, there is one employee whose attitude is so nasty, I may stop shopping here altogether. Disgusted. I used to love this store but if you're not dressed in couture, dripping in diamonds, the staff won't give you the time of day. I went in last Saturday. I stood at the cheese department while a woman re-stocked the cheeses and completely ignored me. After about ten minutes, I asked her where the raclette was and she said, I don't know and called another woman over who pretended to look and said they didn't have any. On a whim, I dug through the chesses and found the raclette myself. I said to the first woman, look you do have it, she didn't even nod or acknowledge me. Let alone apologize for not looking in the first place. Not nice. I'm going to Whole Foods from now on where I can get the exact same things without the snobby attitude. NEVER AGAIN! read more

It's Scarsdale and that's what makes Balducci's less than appealing. When it was Hay Day - more or less the same dynamic of rude shoppers who feel they walk on water. The original Balducci's in NYC was a fun place to shop with a host of great food and quirky service. The diversity of the place made it this way. This new incarnation serves food to the newly rich gentry. Balducci's has good service, but the fatigue of having to deal with uppity clientele can wear down anyone. As per the food - good. Not the greatest, but good for a gourmet shop. Personally, I find Dean and DeLuca in NYC a far better experience for the price this Westchester iteration charges. Even Whole Foods has a better ambience with more or less the same quality of food offerings. I will say this - parking has improved. It used to be a dodgy experience when you had to deal with dowagers in their boat-like Mercedes, Lexi' and other whale craft as they crowded you out of a space, or took an eternity to find their way to the road. read more

They're really a gourmet grocery store, but I just go there for the coffee. On my list of "best places to get a cappuccino." :) Their desserts are very good, too. My only complaint is a lack of wheat/gluten-free stuff. read more

This place is so so overrated. I went into the deli counter and asked for a Chicken Parm sandwich. The guy behind the counter attempts to put chicken fingers on my sandwich. Lazy sack. Umm. The store as a whole offers a great selection of meats, cheeses, fish, breads, etc. Only top of the line products sold here and would recommend to anyone looking for real gourmet foods to purchase. Remember, you always get what your pay for so if you're looking for a piece of cheap meat or fish then this isn't the store for you. read more

A neighbor often shares beautifully packaged goodies from here - although as I stepped back and really tasted the stuff, it wasn't at all special. So I finally visited. I walked around for a LONG time admiring all the overpriced stuff and I was never approached for help. I finally got a basketful of chocolates, prepared deli items (knishes, salads, gyoza) and had to flag someone down to package up a mousse cake. At home, the chocolates were just so-so, the deli things were eaten but not enthusiastically, and the mousse languished in the fridge. Very disappointing! With Fairway, Whole Foods, and Trader Joe's around, there's no need for me to come here. Pass. read more

Balduccis is my mini gourmet store...its not the "go to" for a bulk shop, but its a sure thing for a condensed list of specialties. I go for the fresh squeezed orange juice and the marinated steaks. They have a great selection of other gourmet items, fresh and packaged! read more
