I have always been a chubby kid. Husky. Overweight, but not massively. Confident...to a degree, but…read moretruth be told never really comfortable in my own skin. I always thought physical fitness, or moreover, physical excellence was out of reach. Specifically, out of MY reach. Not in my DNA, not in the cards. But Jeremy Sackett, and his system at Pursuit Fitness, helped change me.
I'm a 29-year-old marketing leader who never thought I would be enthusiastic about nutrition, weight loss, or fitness. That's not to say that growing up, I wasn't physically active. But by the beginning of 2011, at 190 pounds, I was fortunate enough to be approached by Jeremy Sackett at Pursuit Fitness as he was starting his own personal fitness studio. Jeremy kickstarted a workout regime tailored specifically for me, one hour, twice a week. While he acted as my physical trainer in the gym, he also committed himself as a mentor, educating me on the right foods to eat and the right mindset to have.
Honestly, it did take a while for those efforts in nutrition and fitness to "click" as a permanent lifestyle of mine. I slowly saw the weight drop, but I was still enabling a "reward mentality," where I would enjoy a high-calorie meal or treat after a hard workout. However, after I realized how counterproductive this was, I realized I had to set a high goal, with higher expectations, and with highest ambition.
I never thought getting a six-pack was possible, but it still didn't disqualify from being something I've always wanted. I never witnessed my father or either grandfathers with any muscle definition--the men in my family didn't really stress good fitness habits onto me, so taking care of my body wasn't necessarily a priority. Hence, I thought genetically it wasn't even in the stars for me to be "cut." But with the guidance of Pursuit Fitness as my fitness trainer, really understanding the value of nutrition and caloric intake, and developing a raging metabolism, the weight started to fall off.
During my weight loss journey, the value of all things encompassed underneath the large umbrella of nutrition and physical training have sunken in and cemented in my mind. Calorie deficits, adequate sleep, water intake, cardio, interval training, and supplementation all matter. And they've materialized into tangible results that I can see in the mirror.
Now in 2014, at 151 pounds and under 8% body fat (from 190 pounds and over 21% body fat), I'm a great example of someone who wasn't very overweight but still was affected by it. Now, I believe the best is still yet to come and can't wait to see who I inspire! And because of my love for fine dining and eating out, I want to find that perfect balance.
Prices are very affordable for group training (typically 2-4 people in a set) and the studio is convenient off the 148th St. exit off 520 freeway with ample lot parking; Pursuit Fitness is definitely worth your consideration!
