Accessibility: this place has accessible parking right in front of the store, but it is a very tiny parking lot so if there aren't any spaces left you might have to park near the hotel next door or behind the building in some extra lot they have. To get up to the store there is a ramp and the front door is a pull door but was left propped open today (Saturday). There is no bathroom here because it is a small bakery. They speak Spanish and English. Experience: I love this place! A new favorite bakery. This place is very clean and they have a great cleaning system set up for COVID (not sure if they had this pre-COVID also). They have a sign on the door that says masks required and only four people in the store at a time. When you come in, you put on hand sanitizer or gloves they provide, grab a clean tray and clean tongs to pick up the food you want. You can open the glass doors to the food you want then use the tongs to pick it up and put it on your tray, then close the glass again. When you are ready to pay you can go to the counter and they will bag things up for you. They do not take Discover cards or American Express, but everything else works. With your used tongs you put them in a box on the counter labeled used, and they take the used tray from you also at the counter. I don't know what happened to this place. Maybe they have a new baker/cook. Purchased conchas and a dozen green tamales. The conchas were not soft like they should be and were inedible the next day. It seemed like the dough wasn't left to rise for a sufficient amount of time. The green tamales were mostly masa. They were dry and had just a few pieces of chicken. I threw most of them away. Very disappointed in the poor planning and miscommunication today on Rosca de Reyes. I arrived at 3pm to find them all gone. Went to Don Felipes Panaderia in Vista to find the next best Rosca. I was craving donuts and my husband told me let me surprise you...as we pull up, I was like where did you bring me? From the parking lot the place definitely didn't look the most appealing bakery. It looked like a small and not very busy bakery. From the views outside, it looked like half of the bread cases were empty. Given that it was 3 hours before closing time I was skeptical I would find fresh tasting Mexican sweet bread. Well I was wrong! As I walked in, a whiff of fresh baked bread hit me. Even though there were sides of cases that were empty, they still had fresh bolillo (Mexican rolls) out of the oven and some conchas (bread covered with sugar paste) too! As soon as I picked a tray, a storm of customers walked in. Their bread sells fast and why probably explains the empty cases. They also sell other items. Saw a fridge with Mexican jellos with a variety of color and flavors. Might try their coconut one next time I come by. Once checking out I also noticed they sell coffee and Mexican hot chocolate, champurrado. Had not had champurrado in a while so I grab a cup of that. It wasn't too bad, just a little thick to my liking but it was great otherwise not too sweet and perfect companion to my sweet bread. Great place to go on a chilly night if you ask me! It might not look all that from outside but inside is where you find the good stuff! In the end for $7 i ended with 3 bolillos, one champurrado, 4 conchas, and one sweet bread. This place has delicious tamales, they have pork in red sauce and chicken in green sauce, they're are so tasty and not bad at $1.89, they are not skimpy on their filling. We've tried so many Mexican bakeries to get our conchas and bolillos. After getting bread here numerous times and speaking to many of our hispanic friends (being a white-girl I'm not one to know! lol) - this is the place to get 'em. You know what the best part is? We can drive by after 9pm and there's STILL hot bread coming out! It's hysterical to me how busy it is, even at this hour. I go in, get to practice a little of my horrible Spanish and I come out with a bag full of warm sweet breads. Mmmmm, so worth it! We'll also get champurrado when they're not out. So good .. . Let's spell out authentic folks! 2. The bakery thinks it's still in Mexico. Prices are dirt cheap. I've never seen prices so low. It's amazing! I can get like six pieces of baked goods for around a buck! I know we're close to the border, but DAMN! 3. I can't confirm that they're open 24-hours, but it sure seems like it. I was up really early in the morning and late at night when I was staying at the Ramada and they were always open. 4. The selection of baked goods are literally always changing. Not weekly or daily like some places, but almost by the hour! Especially in the morning because they sell so fast. 5. They sell tamales here too! This is where the money is at. I'm not a fan of tamales, but I would gladly eat a dozen tamales from there. The customers ahead of me were ordering tamales like crazy, so I was like shoot theses tamales must be good. Ok so this place holds a secret that not many people even know about.......Wanna know what it is? TAMALES!!!!! They have DELICIOUS Tamales! Now here is the thing, they don't really advertise it, this place is a hole in the wall if your not paying attention you will drive right past it because it only says "Bakery" they don't have a phone number or anything I figured out that they are basically apart of the Chicos restaurant that they are connected to I'm pretty sure the owner is doing some sort of two businesses in one type of deal, ANYHOW This place has the most wonderful tasting Tamales but they are not available all day, they have some sort of morning shift where they bring them and then they sell out then they bring more around 3-4pm I've gone before and they didn't have any and told me to come back at 3:00pm and then I did and they had some ready at about 3:15pm when I asked the second time I went what time is the evening tamales usually available I was then told 4:00pm so they need to be a bit more reliable in the time that they will serve tamales since they are not available just anytime, I won't take off a star for that unless I go again and they don't have them as stated lol, Moral of my story: if you want great Tamales, Give this place a shot! read more

This place is HEAVEN. Seriously, go there. It is the definition of a hidden gem. I was staying in the Ramada next door and after one morning of lousy cold breakfast, we wandered across the parking lot to this beacon of glory. You pick up a cafeteria-style tray and a pair of tongs, pick out your pastries, and bring them to the cashier for payment. I'm not really sure what anything I bought was, but it was all DELICIOUS and DIRT CHEAP. We got about five pastries and two tamales for under $5. I recommend the things that look like corn muffins as well as the things that look like crescent rolls. Both were delish. Not to mention the TAMALES! So warm and tasty, with just a hint of kick. I had never liked Mexican bread until I found this place . This place is a hole on the wall but the breads are fresh and delicious . There is nothing like it , It's addictive be careful ! The prices are surreal. They also had a very cute pastry in the shape of a turtle with the concha sugar type of topping) Prices were also extremely reasonable. Around .50 cents for each one. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! I am in town on business and love to find local bakeries. This little gem is the top of my list for the area! When you walk you are instantly greeted by the warm aroma of fresh yummy goodness. The owner came out and explained to us what was in each pastry and asked if we had any questions. There are all kinds of HUGE pastries, breads and cookies. Everything was extremely well priced, if we weren't traveling in a few days I would have gotten more. While chatting when we were checking out they gave both of us two loaves of bread, which looked amazing! Then before we left they gave us a fresh tamale to try and was super delicious. I have been there only twice in the last 2 months. Both times i only got the Bolillo Rellano. It is supposed to have cheese, ham, and jalapeño. When I went on Saturday at 9 AM, the one I got was cold and hard. I still ate it because I was hungry. It has Zero ham and barely any jalapeno. Definitely not worth $3 each. Only two minutes away from my house and it took me a year to discover!! Just went in for 5 chicken, and 5 pork tamales and wow. Growing up, my parents would occasionally venture down to TJ for business trips and such and they would take me to the big supermarket/shopping mall place (I think it was called calimex?) that had Mexican sweet bread that you would grab a tray and some tongs and grab your own bread. I loved that, my favorite was the big one that was really just a big chocolate chip cookie. It's been awhile since those times... I've grown up since then and I never really have any reason to go south of the border like my parents did.... but stuff like this little bakery is why yelp is so useful... First thing, this little bakery can be easy to miss, it's small and it blends into the strip mall that its located in. I passed by it the first time. Second, this is only 'negative' part of my review, but parking can be a pain due to it being a small lot that shares space with a liquor store, the bakery itself and a Mexican restaurant that always seems busy. Leaving also is a pain for the same reason. However, this place is a little jewel that is worth seeking out. This place is just like the ones in Mexico, grab a tray and tongs and go crazy. In fact, I really believe this bakery actually has more choices then even the ones in Mexico, I think they have all if the possible pan Dulce's that exist. Not only that, but they have a bunch of everything too. They have to though, because this place is always busy and the shelves go empty quick. The shelves get replenished of course, but my tip is this; go early to get my most choices. Also all the breads are good here, they all taste good and are authentic. Not only is it good but it's ridiculously cheap too, $5 goes a long way here... that will easily fill a large bag up with sweets. Decent panederia, we went initially for the churros but there was none available :( but still we found a few panes (Mexican pastries), some deserts for the week and they apparently sell tamales as well! So of coarse I was excited and purchased two chicken in Chile Verde (green sauce) and two chicken in red sauce. BUT THEY GAVE US THE WRONG CHICKEN IN RED SAUCE AND THEY GAVE US PORK IN RED SAUCE. although my husband was bummed he ate them anyways lol but still not cool. The tamales were a 6 or 7 out of 10 the masa could have a little more Flavor and the chile (especially in the green sauce) could be a little more spicy. I went in yesterday to get bread and Tamales and everything was fine, young lady at the counter great costumer serve . As we are having a conversation some guy comes out I believe is the owner and asks who is speaking in English and I said I am and he tells me you are not allowed to speak English here, ( he repeated not to speak in English to me about 4 times)I was shocked and said I could speak in English if I wanted, since that is the language I was greeted in. He basically was clowning on me in front of other customers for speaking English and yes I speak Español and never have I denied my heritage but if they are greeting me in English and having a conversation in English I did not see anything wrong with speaking English. read more
