My father has a 1988 Yugo, yeah you read right. So my dad lost the keys on a car he has had for about 20 years....a few weeks ahead of an estate sale. I know.... I called Bakersfield Locksmith and spoke to Debbie who was super nice and as I feared, it would be difficult to find a key for it. She said she would take to the crew and see if they had one. A thief tried to steal my car but unfortunately for him his shaved key broke in the ignition. Instead of having it replaced I did some research and found out that a locksmith might be able to repair it saving me $$$. Locking your keys in your car sucks. Getting into your car and finding that your ignition won't turn sucks even more. I called AAA, who, before sending out said locksmith, said, "We called the locksmith. Replacing the ignition will be $325. Your membership gets you $60 off, so the cost will be $265." Being stuck, I agreed. The locksmith arrives, and says the replacement will be $375. "AAA said it would be $325." "Yeah, they do that to us all the time." I suggested that he try to repair it, which he reluctantly did for $175. An hour later, he successfully repaired the ignition. As I hand over my credit card, he says, "I gotta add 4% for using a credit card." "You expect everyone to have $200 in cash on em these days? "It's company policy, man." The job was done, and cost less than it might have, but only after I insisted for a repair attempt first. Shouldn't it be the other way around? read more

My client set the appointment with the company which I arrived the owner did contact me 10 mins before to notify me the locksmith was running behind which I understand you can't predict how long other appointments will take the tech shows up 45 mins later. Upon arrival he was very professional and I showed him the locked I needed rekeyed and replaced as instructed by my client. When I asked how much the cost would be he quoted 65 per set and 35 for labor per lock. I do not do this on a daily so I took that as that is 65 plus 35 per door. This home is a 2 bedroom 1 bath home with 4 doors and a closet door exterior for the laundry room. Ok, I agreed. After he completed I got the total and it was 892. My client where VERY upset as they felt they should of been told it was going to be double which I do agree as I stood there I clearly asked ok 65.00 and 35 a set. I think with dealing with locks, new locks, rekeys etc. I would recommend that you quote the price right then, have customer sign, then complete work. If I would of know it was 892.00 My client would of just did a basic rekey on 2 doors and went through there warranty. That cost was more than there house payment and they just bought the home. so I had to pay the bill for them. I hope that doesn't happy to another elderly person in fact anyone. I can say the tech apologized and asked what I wanted to do but at this point he has already don't the work ... thank you read more
