It is one of those odd things that you can have an experience earlier in the course of a week long…read moreroad trip that makes you appreciate the little things somewhere else along the way. That is definetley the case with this location of IHG properties. This chain is consistenly solid over the years so I wasn't expecting anything less than what we had. They in the midst of a renovation, but around a bit of dust here, anda paint splash there, it was still clean (much cleaner than a previous place in Wilmington). The staffer that checked us in was pleasant and efficient. Our beds were comfortable, lots of pillows. We had a little problem with the shower the first night (operator error, or rather we didn't know the trick for a janky tub/shower valve). We called and they sent someone within about 5 minutes. [It was one of the maids that had experience with our room, a sweet soul, very pleasant...I do have to ask though, how many tattoos are too many tattoos]. The breakfast was pretty well put out, two hot protiens each day, eggs, potato options, oatmeal, cereal, pancake machine, etc. Even the most finicky kid would not walk away hungry unless they wanted to, for whatever reason it is that finicky kids do things. The hot tub worked, good temperature, pool was nice, neither had too much chlorine. While you didn't have to walk through the lobby (like some hotels- why designers, why?) there was a giant window from the front lobby/breakfast area to the pool area. My wife was a bit off put by that. I guess you would feel a bit like a fish in the aquarium if someone was there looking in. Definiteley a good stay, nothing is cheap anymore, so $346 for two nights in a non capitol city in Ohio might feel steep, but hey that's what the market will bear, so all good that's good. We would come back if in the area.

Our recent stay, 22-23 JUN was good, with no particular issues. There was nothing that was wrong,…read moreand nothing so great as to warrant any gushing review. The TV service (Spectrum), and the world's tinest most useless remote, are a topic. More on that later. An immediate thought, and this is observation and experience over years of travel. The entire staff was "local" and by that I mean folks born and raised in the Midwest somewhere. There were no indications that there was Pakistani or Indian influence at this location. Over the years this level of hotel/motel has been dominated by that cultural persuasion. Those foreign born humans do a good job, generally, but there is always (in my experience) a bit of "shortcut" to the nuts and bolts of the day to day functioning, and management of the maintenance, cleanliness, food service. This location, had none of those defeciencies. While nothing was spectacular, every aspect of the stay was adequate. Aside from the intial overwhelming smell of chlorine, when we first entered (which you quickly grow nose blind to interestingly) , the place was clean and well maintained. They had a maintenance tech on duty, came to our room in minutes to manage a lazy, and underperforming toilet. The breakfast was adequate. My wife is a finicky diner, but still found things to make it through the morning, although her derisive view of "steamed" proteins is quite fair...that is a challenge that this level of service will always have. Day one was steamed sausages, day two steamed bacon ( a bridge too far for my bride indeed). I was Army, so have had far worse in far worse settings...I had seconds! The bed was firm, the pillows were okay. Now, the TV service and the worlds smallest and most useless remote. We were in town for a family event, so for the most part we were only in the room for a an hour or so of decompression before sleeping. On both days, 45 minutes of that hour was trying to understand and navigate the TV. Perhaps if I had a different set of background, training, and exposure to technology I could have figured it out. I did give up and instead of the local news I wanted to catch up on, settled on an episode of McHale's Navy, it was that episode where they get a PT boat hull and paint it to be a replica of their PT 73, so they can go rebuild a destroyed village. Good episode, but I would have rather caught up on the news. Not possible with BW's Spectrum and useless remote. Also, Disney might just give you folks a call over this "be our guest" thing, but I must admit, I did find myself singing the song while waiting for the tiny elevator.

This place is bright, colorful & modern. Our room was very clean & spacious. Our fifth day on the road, so the extra room was nice. It was quiet, with room darkening blinds. Breakfast was great -- eggs, sausage, potatoes, pancakes, biscuits & gravy, bagels, bread, assorted pastries, cereal, juices & flavored waters, white & chocolate milk, yogurt...the biscuits & gravy were quite good. The breakfast attendant was constantly checking & refilling, even though there were just a few of us there eating so early. Our only issues were minor things in the bathroom -- it was hard to get the door shut all the way, the handheld shower head was too high up to use as in tended & the toilet paper holder was mounted very low & crooked so the toilet paper had a tendency to slip off. I would happily stay here again! Oh, one other irritant was the tv channel guide was totally incorrect. I guess they must have switched providers.

I'm pregnant & wanted to relax after the grueling drive. We arrive only to find out the room we booked that i also paid extra for was sold out so was given a "standard" room. No apologies, no partial refund just a shoulder shrug from the front desk boy Travis. Get to our room 1130 pm, it's freezing from window being left open in December. Try to get some rest & there's adults downstairs screaming at each other, goes on for 30 minutes, then their baby starts crying for an extensive amount of time. I went down to see what the actual f was going on, cops, ambulances & adults still yelling running around hallways barefoot and baby screaming crying, Ohio I guess.. I go back to room, call the front desk and ask for them to issue a refund we're at 1:15 am right now, they asked if we wanted to switch the room, husband was already passed out from driving all night & being a heavy sleeper. I feel like I got robbed of my money. Travis confirmed the cops have been there and that it should be getting quiet soon & that his manager will handle it in the morning, an hour passed & these people below us were still going at it. After a terrible, light night sleep we wake to continue our drive, I stopped at front desk to ask for manager, right off the bat she says no refund, doesn't apologize & says that's she been informed of the problems of our stay in such a rude manor. Desk boy lied to us in the night just to get through his shift and hand the issue to the next person, imagine. Unbelievable do yourself a favor & do NOT stay here!! It is the personal home of Dave Longaberger from the Longaberger basket company. My BF's mom was a star seller of these baskets once upon a time so he is very familiar! I booked the fanciest room--The Dresden Suite! High ceilinged, king sized 4-poster bed, fireplace, sitting and desk area, small hallway with back access and a big jetted tub in the middle of the room. Features are great but the building, rooms, carpeting, furniture are quite old and worn. I think due to the age of the building and the lack of staff, the entire place did not feel very clean. Our room was tidy when we checked in but upon closer inspection, corners were dusty, papers and brochures were water stained, carpet was stained in places and peeling. This might have been an oversight but the bathroom didn't have shampoo or body wash stocked. There was liquid hand soap but my BF swears it was watered down and not quite effective. During our 1-night stay here, we only saw one person the whole time working and it was also the owner, Joy. She embodies her name as she warmly pads around suggesting we look around and offered to show us 2 additional rooms, which was fun. We didn't opt for the 4-course dinner that she cooks personally from scratch. It was $100 or something and includes a bottle of wine which would've been wasted since neither of us drink. We went out for dinner but upon getting back to the inn, Joy prepared a dessert for us--so cute! We got a small chocolate lava cake with a scoop of ice cream and a strawberry each! The room was stifling and we were unable to adjust the temperature too much. It was freezing outside yet we had to have the A/C on because of how hot it was in the room. We borrowed 2 of their many DVDs and put it on the background while we intensely played a board game. The next morning, Joy made us a delicious light breakfast. We headed out to the nearby abandoned Longaberger retail ghost town. Oh, and Joy's dog Chewbacca is adorable. She could definitely use a bath and grooming session but she was so friendly!
