I spent the night here as I was in town for the night of my class reunion. I got a king room, it was very clean but I would say dated, the hallway to the room had that, I have been here a long time smell. It wasn't horrible, just you could tell it had seen things. My room was very neat and clean, the bathroom was very clean. The shower curtain did have some stains on it, but it looked like paint or something. Overall, I was very please with my stay here and would gladly stay here again. As a side note the Tiki Bar did have very loud music playing till around 1:30am, but I fell asleep anyways, because I was tired. The bed was very stiff and the pillows overstuffed, so if that is a concern, bring your own pillow or maybe call down and ask for softer ones (I didn't even try and I was just too tired). I almost always bring all my own bathroom items, so I didn't try the soap or shampoos. read more

Is it the fanciest? No. But I had just run screaming out of another small motel that literally was a nightmare and I drove another hour to find a place off the highway that 1) accepted dogs and 2) didn't cost an arm and a leg and 3) had availability at 8 o'clock at night. So happy to walk in and see a friendly mutt behind the counter. Desk agent was incredibly helpful, putting me in a room that was a very quick few steps away to outdoor access for my old man. You could tell she was a dog lover and was quite empathetic. The room itself was quite large and had a huge TV and microwave. Super hot shower, perfect after a long stressful day on the road. I got there when it was pretty dark and left at dawn, so I didn't spend much time here, but I was happy. Great location next to some fast food options and a gas station if you need to get up and get going. read more

I'm very happy we stayed here! I was looking for a dog friendly hotel in the area and these guys were the best to work with! Reasonable pet fee and we really enjoyed our stay. Nice picnic area for the pups to enjoy as well. We will most certainly be back and may even extend our stay tonight! read more

I arrived late because I was doing a cross country drove from California to Virginia. Upon arriving I was greeted by an older lady, she seemed ummm.. nice! - The lady literally farted when she was checking me in lol and said "excuse me" afterwards and kept right on checking me in. No hesitation, no blushing, no nothing - We both laughed because what else are you suppose to do in those situations lol As soon as I walked into my room I was greeted by a huge spider. I didn't complain because all I really wanted to do was take a shower and go to sleep. Well, I literally waited 15 minutes for the water to turn hot or even luke warm and it never did so the shower was out of the question. The room smelled like old people - In all honesty, I felt like this hotel was just too big, you can tell they don't get much traffic and the last person that stayed in the room I was in was probably months ago, which is why they don't clean them as frequently. One thing I just couldn't understand was the arrangement of the room. The room is a pretty big size which is great, but if you don't know how to arrange it then its pointless. The heater was low to the ground and the couch was literally 2 inches away from it. So the heater kept turning off because it thought the room was warmer than it actually was. Needless to say, I froze the entire night and I didn't get much sleep either. read more

This hotel, formerly part of a chain, can't remember which, is now 'American owned'. Apparently, they did not like their Italian owners (?!), and when bought by a local now feature that. It is not a great posh hotel. It used to be a place to stop for families traveling I suspect, with an outdoor pool and a bar (with a friendly barkeep I can report), and long corridors. It is now a modest hotel that charges modest prices (like, $60/night) for modest lodging, for families still traveling. You would not otherwise find it, but if you have to stay here, it will be ok. If you want to save money, it's a little nicer than I expected for $60. read more

I was a little concerned when I booked the hotel, but when I got here I was pleasantly surprised by the Southgate Hotel. It's all repainted inside and out, new carpet everywhere, and a very friendly welcome at the front desk. The bathroom could have been a little cleaner and more modern, but for the price, I'm very satisfied. read more

The hotel was booked full and the sewers backed up. The whole first floor had the tubs and toilets backed up with nasty water and human waste. The first floor hallway was saturated in waste. Their plumbers were snaking till 2:00 am in the main hallway. That morning tubs weren't sanitized. Complained to front desk, they wanted to know "what" my problem was. We had two rooms and we couldn't shower or use bathroom. Were told we could use the bars bathroom across courtyard!!!! I was told they wouldn't charge for room that night, they couldn't adjust the bill because the manager was off all week. Got home called two days later, they stated me card was no good and couldn't make credit. Re-gave number and a day later got a $25.00 credit (not the whole amount). later that day my bank security/fraud unit closed my account because my card number was being used by other people. I only used this card for the hotel in last 6 months. ????? Makes you wonder.... Called and they got very nasty on phone and wouldn't talk about flood of shit and card fraud. Never stay there again.
