    Breakfast & the view
    Brooke C.

Joy's Place absolutely incredible & exceeded our expectations! To start off, Joy was extremely helpful with our early check-in. When we arrived she was excited to give us a tour & even upgraded our room! In the morning we had the most amazing homemade breakfast, fresh coffee & orange juice with French toast & omelets with fresh fruit. After breakfast she insisted we look at the rest of the property & gave us a little history lesson of the house. The house is stunning & every room is unique, decorated beautifully! On top of the amazing property & unforgettable hospitality, there's an incredible view, you can see for miles! We will definitely be back & we can't wait to have fiends & family stay as well so they too can experience the inn!

I'd like to give this place 3 1/2 stars, but I can't. I'll explain later why I had to deduct a…read morestar. I knew I was going to love this place when I was greeted by the golden retriever Dakota when we arrived. Yet another lovely pooch greeted us at the door, Miss Wrigley. Loved having the pets around. The garden and home are amazing. Really quite lovely. They also have a beautiful pool with lounge area and a lovely big porch in the front of the home. We stayed in the Berllan Glen room. It's gorgeous. Big bedroom area, very large bathroom area, and private porch. The pictures speak for themselves. Some folks may need a step stool to get into the bed :) The reason for the one start deduction is that I went to put my lingerie in the bureau. I saw a bunch of women's stockings all curled up inside in a drawer. I assumed someone forgot their clothes. Then I opened other drawers. They too were all filled. Then I went to the end table chest of drawers on both sides of the bed, they were full. I finally found a few empty drawers in the armoire with the TV. I also could not find a closet door that would open. I eventually figured out there were two rods to hang clothes on on either end of the armoire. I believe the lovely hostess should've told us that there were clothes in our room and where we could hang or put ours clothes away. I found it off putting and quite odd to have someone else's clothes in the furniture. I've since asked other friends and family and they too agree that is quite odd. Anyway, the breakfast in the morning was delicious. Lovely spread. Apparently, you can arrange for dinner at the home, but you have to let the innkeepers know in advance. The house is chock full of items for decoration and has a tiny little gift shop where I did purchase some private label Earl Grey tea that's quite yummy. As a very nice touch they do have complementary sodas, water, and snacks for the guests. One can also purchase wine, if desired. There is also a coffee bar and tea bar. I was so pleased to see a tea bar because so few places have that. My only small issue with that is that there's no milk available--only in the mornings when the coffee bar has their half-and-half out. I didn't realize they have "operating" hours. The innkeepers are available until 9 at night, unless an emergency. I finally figured that out on a card they left in the room on the bureau with fresh water. It's about a seven minute ride to the actual Town of Granville. The town is a must see! The Whit's ice cream is delicious. All in all, it's a lovely place, except for the fact that I had that issue with putting my clothes away.

We stayed in Room 2 on the second floor, very handsomely appointed in aqua and coffee tones, with silver accents. The room was lovely and very comfortable, both the bedroom and the en suite bathroom. I enjoyed reading a book in the chair by the window. The backyard was another highlight. There is a small deck, a fireplace, an English-style walking garden, and a main seating area with candles and comfortable camp chairs. In warm weather, it's perfect either for unwinding or for extending a gathering at the end of the day. Apparently the proprietor brings food in the morning? I was not awake in time to witness this; perhaps it is the breakfast fairy. In any case, the spread was noteworthy: besides the drinks, snacks, yogurt, fruit, and cereal available around the clock, there were uncooked eggs, miniature bagels, coffee cake or banana bread, and a variety of seasonal fruit. No matter how heterogeneous your group, everyone will find something to satisfy him- or herself. Sometimes it's the little things--such as the rubber duck in the shower stall, the small fish tank on the kitchen counter, and the soft jazz CD playing in the living room on our arrival. There was a basket of highly watchable DVD movies and a shelf of local-interest books. But the important things stand out too: the entire place was immaculate and the proprietors seem to take good care of both the property and the guests. This is a very strong 4.5. Some of our housemates were staying there for the third time, and I would not hesitate to return with them next time.

The kitchen has filtered water from the fridge, keurig coffee, microwave, and dishes. There are snacks like popcorn, crackers, yogurt, and cereal available all day. In the morning, they put out a fresh pastry (different and delicious each day!), toast, beautiful fresh fruit, and hard boiled eggs. The room had a hair dryer, bar soap, makeup wipes, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. We also had a smart tv so I could log into my own Hulu account. There is a pretty park and lots of little shops and restaurants within walking distance, including a major grocery store. Could not have imagined a better place...I wish I lived there!

Cons: - B&B is unstaffed; you have to get keys from a local business. - House is constantly unlocked and does not feel like it is in a safe location (we witnessed someone who wasn't a guest pounding on the front door to be let in). - Hot tub is in a terrible state and seems to exist merely so the B&B can claim to have one. - Breakfast leaves much to be desired and seems to be an effort to check the "breakfast" box off while spending the bare minimum on breakfast. - Nelsonville is not a good location and doesn't have much to offer. In short unless you need somewhere to simply sleep in for cheap, pass on this location. I'd recommend just paying a little bit extra to stay either in Athens or at one of the resorts closer to Hocking Hills.

Great Bed and Breakfast in Nelsonville!…read more We stayed a night in a dogwood room, the room was awesome, I love the bathroom and bathtub, but it was cold. Everything was so clean and cozy, the room was cold too but they have a small fire place and soft blanket:) Another good thing is they have a lot of towels! The best part is HOMEMADE BREAKFAST! I love everything on the table! They offer buffet style homemade breakfast: the scramble egg was my favorite, I love when there's no milk, just egggggggyummmm! BUT! The homemade biscuit was so good too and gravy sausage, what should I say, everything was so good and delicious. The owner was so nice too! But I wish they can keep the breakfast line longer from 8-10? I'll go back to Nelsonville again just to stay at this place
