As we got closer to the trip, and more friends heard about the retreat, a larger group asked to join. The owner was super responsive when I asked to increase the size for the booking and we all ended up having an incredible time. It's the perfect getaway for a summer weekend or any time for that matter. I just wish it was a little closer to Columbus. A few friends wanted to camp down by the lake and the home fit everyone else perfectly with room to spare. The property is amazing. The home is right off the road, but the lake is down a long path, out in the middle of nowhere. We spent the days swimming, grilling out, playing lawn games and eventually hanging out by a fire thanks to the wood that the property manager had left for us down by the lake. There's certain places your mind just functions at 100%. For me, this was one of them. I wrote the entire outline for a movie and began part of the screenplay. Not long after I stayed, my writing partner and I sold the script and it ended up being produced up in Canada. Secluded Lake Lodge was actually a big part of that whole experience -- so thank you again! Can't wait to come back sometime. My main complaint was the behavior of the property manager. The rental is specifically secluded, from the title of the house to the words spoken by the owner you would be alone completely, even so that the key is left under the mat when coming and going to avoid interaction with anyone. - and that's not what we got. When we were grilling outside in the front at like 8pm a car drove past the house over and over and over again scaring the crap out of my guests and making me uncomfortable too. Eventually the payroll of the house stopped and we tucked in. Later in the morning around 8 the property manager stopped in front of the barn across the street and walked over and talked to one of my friends. Asking her with a mean demeanor who she was and why we were grilling and what we were doing, making her justify our actions at fucking 8 in the morning after a night of drinking. Not only that but he didn't even talk to me, he talked to my friend who in no way deserved what felt like an 8 am bunk check. He was telling her that he had had bad people rent the house as of late and they did things like burn cans and things?? Even if he did have tenants behave in a way that made it more difficult for him to clean up after them the rules of the house say to drink responsibly and not let pets on the bed.. nothing else. We did not deserve to be bombarded, disrespectfully and not even directly due to the behavior or other renters. The beds were also the worst I've ever encountered, grass on the way back to the lake was unkempt and made walking a nightmare, the house smelled like old people, and the decorations were also very old. The owner also never returned my email about my complaint. All in all had the encounter with the property manager not happened i would have been pleased because i had already seen the house but it ruined my view of the stay and i would never go back.

The county jails and prisons in this state are horrible! Yes I know people are in jail for reasons BUT to be ignored by staff, skipped medication (if given at all), Unusable toilets, no heat and no thermals.... is asking for family members to get sick and possibly die. The C.O.s talk to the inmate as if they are dirt (can't say dogs because dogs in pounds are treated better) Phone and visit screens are the worst but yet they have no problem taking families money. Jails and prisons get checks for housing people but yet do not take care of the people or the buildings. God forbid someone has an accident or mentally unstable and smear it on the walls.. C.O.s go in with Hazmat suits but force the inmates to clean it and maybe get a pair of gloves (so let's share the Hep. ) EVERY jail and prison in Ohio needs to be looked over by the Feds! Anyone that has been locked up or family members of someone who has been locked up in Ohio should be contacting the news, health dept, entire staff of the jails/prisons along with other outside agencies! Regardless of why they are incarcerated they are still HUMAN BEINGS and should be treated with some kind of dignity. Absolutely disgusting!

The positive of our visit: This property is worth visiting, but exclusively to see this magnificent home. The level of detail that went into building this home is amazing. Further, it is astonishing that many of the brilliant features of this home have not been altered in the 135+ years that it has been standing. It's truly a piece of history and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to see this home. The not so great parts of our visit: Prior to our arrival we attempted to call but the call kept on going to a business phone that was not accepting messages. We thought we had the wrong number but we didn't. The new owner, Carol, is a real estate agent in the local area. The phone number goes to her realty office. When we arrived we were greeted by Carol's mother and shown to our room. The fireplace had been on for a considerable about of time and the room was roasting. Her mother said she did not know how to turn off the fireplace. We figured it out, but the room was so hot, we opened all of the windows (the storm windows were still installed); the room was not going to cool off quickly. We did meet Carol as we were headed out to dinner and found out she was the owner but she only stays when there are guests. She owns a farm also in addition to the realty office. We immediately felt as though our stay was a bit of a burden to her. When we started asking questions about the house, she knew very little about the house. When asked if she had to do much work much to the property after purchasing (because it's so beautiful and in great condition) she only talked about all of the work and renovations she had done and was planning to her third floor living space. We returned from dinner and realized no one told us what time breakfast was. We also wanted to know if we could get ice. So, we asked Carol. Breakfast was at 9:00 a.m. and we could use the refrigerator/freezer in the kitchen. She would have shared all of this information if she would have checked us in but she was busy with another matter. Her mother only shows people to their rooms. Breakfast was fine - nothing great. It's not a 5 course breakfast as stated on the website. If you like oatmeal and toast you will be fine. You also will not receive fresh fruit and cookies mid-afternoon as the website mentions. We went back up to the room and took a nap. We didn't sleep much the night before because the room was still a sauna. The fireplace/mantel continued to radiate heat for hours after the fireplace was turned off. When we went downstairs Carol said her goodbyes to us. I said, we'll still see you tomorrow, right? The short version of the story is that she thought we were only staying one night. She's so busy with her other endeavors that she didn't even know how many nights we were staying. It was very awkward to say the least. Then the next morning, Sunday, we came downstairs just before 9 a.m. and she said she didn't make breakfast because she wasn't sure we would remember that it was daylight savings time! With all of the electronic devices today, it's almost impossible to forget! We couldn't wait to get home. We wanted to eat and leave. Last, the room. Although the room itself is quite beautiful because of the house and the woodwork, three things stood out like a sore thumb. One, the shower curtain is orange at the bottom. I wondered if it had ever been washed since Carol took over the B&B. Surely she hasn't stayed in the room. Second, the TV was at least 15 old. It is a behemoth of a thing with a built in VHS (that's how I know it's old!) and DVD. The sound is so terrible that it's annoying. We really just wanted to watch the news, however, had we wanted to watch a movie, it would have been too distracting. If Carol can spend lots of money on her own private area, then either remove something that is outdated and works poorly or spend a few hundred dollars on something that is nice and works properly. If this is supposed be a high end B&B make sure the amenities are high end. Third, there is a rather large hole in the wall (size of a 50 cent piece) above the TV and a mirror on the floor. It's fairly obvious what the problem is. So, either fix the problem, remove the mirror from the room temporarily while the problem is being fixed, or cover the problem up with another picture. Other little items in the room - peeling wallpaper in the bathroom, fixtures (TP holder, towel bars, and light above the TV) that don't fit with the home. They look like they were bought at the dollar store. Drawers are lined with paper that is pieced together. Summary - no one is really paying attention to these rooms and the guest experience. All of these incidents, isolated, would have been insignificant, but coupled together , they show a proprietor t
