Ok... so I called tonight to cancel reservations for Maumee state park as I am stuck in Maine with some auto issues. I was telling Trinity how much we love Maumee state park and will be sad to miss it those dates. I also mentioned that our past experiences were so wonderful at Maumee that every time I go to book a state park close to home it's hard not to gravitate towards what we know and love. Anyway, Trinitys enthusiasm about Salt Fork Park is catching and that will be the next one we visit in July. She told me about all the different types of stays available... the one with a jacuzzi sounds amazing.. :) Anyway, thank you Trinity and I believe that Seth should certainly send you to each park so you can sell them effectively, as you know what you are doing! Just checked into Cabin 11. Foul smell. Mold in the bathroom. Veneer on a bedroom door partial torn off. Small children with our group. Not safe at all. We were told these were renovated. They were NOT. Same thing happened a few years! Found out the smell is from the air conditioning unit drain that backed up and soaked the carpet! We spent 22 consecutive years here and never had these issues. We will NOT come back!!! read more

Even though it was grey and rainy, we had a wonderful time. They say there's been a Bigfoot siting at this park, we didn't see or hear anything. Several years ago, a Bigfooters from Pennsylvania were investigating the park for a possible Bigfoot. Then we heard loud noises. Bigfoot or the Pennsylvanians? It was still cool. The staff here is very friendly and accommodating. If staying over the weekend, be well advised to book early, sites fill rapidly. read more

I will forever have a soft spot for Salt Fork State Park. This park was introduced to me when my family first moved to the Cambridge, Ohio area, when I was 11 years old. I can recall falling in love with the beach area the first time we went. My family never really travelled much when I was a kid, and it seemed so grand. I'd splash around in the lake with my siblings and my cousins; we had happy memories. As an adult, I started bringing my own children for beach days, fishing expeditions and barbecues. Although the magic that it brought to me as a child dissipated, I still held a fondness for it that continued on. This park has beautiful sunrises and spectacular sunsets, clean maintained areas to barbecue, a marina, for those who want to go out on the lake with their boats, fishing spots galore, cabins available to rent and a gorgeous Lodge featuring room rentals, an indoor and outdoor pool, a hot tub and a gameroom. We've been going to this park for last 10 years around 4th of July. We always rent a cabin for whole week and pack the whole family Including sister in-law family and parents in law. We all are always looking forward to our time to be here. Kids are saying that this is their favorite part of the summer. I can't say nothing about the the lodge - we've never stayed there but cabins are good. They are constantly improving and updating the cabins. The lake itself is very beautiful and views are gorgeous. There is a lot to do here. We do hiking, boating and swimming. Not far is golf club, marina where you can rent speed boats, pontoon boots, kayaks or jet ski. They have a archery and outdoor shooting range. In lodge they have indoor and outdoor pools. I want to mention that this place is no way a luxury resort. It's a rustic gateway for families. But I would not consider it a romantic place.i read more

Every year my sister, her two 48 year old special needs kids and I go on a one week vacation. This year it was Salt Fork State Park in Cambridge, Ohio. We rented a private cabin in the woods and had access to the park out the back door. The lake, grounds and roads are great. However - there is very little access to to the water unless you have a boat. We were so excited one day packing a picnic and going to the beach for a day of swimming. What a heart break! We get there, its a weekday - and we had no easy access to the picnic tables or water to swim. The walk from the parking was sooooo long and the only road getting closer parking was closed off. There was no way my niece, nephew, or sister could have made the walk from our car to the tables or to swim. I walked it - and found the parking lot and facilities were all in need of some serious repair. I spoke to a man and he said all of the money for the park goes to the resort, golf course and cabin areas! Sure - places almost inaccessible by everyday people! Its a shame that such a beautiful area seems off grounds for people who have disabilities. People who can't have access to close parking to make it safer and easier to walk and be able to make life memories of swimming and picnicking at Salt Fork State Park. Look at my photos - you'll see the road closed off for closer parking and how far it was from where we parked. The van in the distance was our car. The only true access we had to the water was at the marina's - which were well maintained. We fished and had a picnic a few times enjoying all of Nature that surrounded us! So beautiful! Stayed in a cabin with my girlfriend, her sister and boyfriend for a surprise engagement weekend. The cabin and view was absolutely stunning. The weather was perfect, amenities were wonderful and all working, the trees were all kinds of beautiful colors, and we could even watch the Tribe take the Cubs in game 2 of that years World Series (heartbreak ending). I will never forget my first experience here and neither will you. It's stunning scenery makes for a memorable time and was literally the most perfect place for me to pop the question. It's so quiet and serene it almost makes you forget about reality of busy city life and you can enjoy the joys of life. Perfect for that recharging weekend getaway. read more

We love spending time at SFSP. The lake is beautiful and has a beach for kids to play. The campground has great sites, but if you don't book early you may have a hard time getting the spot you want (6 months in advance is when they open reservations). There is a laundry facility in the shower house and some have even been updated. Plenty of short or long hikes to take in the sights...be sure to stop by the Stone House and see some history. read more

We love staying at Salt Fork Cabins. Each cabin has a fire pit and we make a fire and ear s'mores every night . It's a very peaceful get away. The food in the area is amazing also. If you don't want to eat out the cabins have a kitchen and a full size refrigerator. The fishing is great. The indoor pool is the warmest pool I have ever swam in! Not to mention a hot tub to relax in. The outdoor pool is huge. They have a lot of hiking trails but we never hike because legend has it Bigfoot lives there. The gift shop has a lot of Bigfoot Souvenirs and you can get a map at check of the reported Bigfoot sightings. read more

Love the yearly pool pass for the grandkids , especially during the winter . 10+ years now . Unfortunately in 2020, our governor put the pool on lockdown for us locals while keeping it open for the visitors . Great employee interactions both at the desk and at the pool . Ok first experience. Rented canoe from Sugar Marina for a full day a$120 plus $20 deposit. Be mindful even if you opt to use it less than the reserved original one day you "have already paid for it." Translation - we won't credit your change of mind as you paid for a full day. What would have been helpful was at the time of our reservation being advised the cost of what you register for is non refundable. Serve it up in a way so you are in charge assessing. Same message more savvy customer spin. So if this is your first time renting anything go easy and rent for less than a day (specific canoe) just to see if you even like the experience. The guy who got us boarded this am was cool. The lake is beautiful. One big point in their favor was our original reservation was a week ago. The am we woke up it was overcast and borderline rainy. We had no problems bumping our reservation to this weekend. Glad we did it. For the cost of a full day rent you're already a bit more than 20% in the cost of a a new canoe. If you rent make it worth you're while. read more

My husband and I stayed in cabin #39, we usually love Ohio lodges and cabins...but this was not cleaned properly. I understand staffing is an issue everywhere but I should have been told in advance that things weren't up to par..There was still dirty dishes in the dish washer. So went to the front desk to explain, and we were told the cabins didn't have a dishwasher. Hum??? It did. The park itself is beautiful. But I wouldn't stay here until they are fully staffed again. Paid $584 for the cabin for 2 nights on Labor Day weekend. We tried to switch to the lodge , but they were full. It's just sad to pay that much money and arrive to dirty dishes and a very dirty cabin. read more

I love salt fork! We always come here in the winter time and just relax. They are always busy with events happening, family reunions, business meetings, and other occasions. They have really nice fireplaces to gather around and read a nice book. There are rocking chairs and casual places to hangout. The hotel has a pool and hot tub indoors and they do have outdoors but those are closed for winter. There is a game room and fitness center. This place has something for everyone. There is a gift shop so you can grab snack, clothes, and odds and ends. There is a restaurant and bar in the lodge. There are great trails to walk or run if you like. The rooms are simple with beds, tv, fridge/ freezer, and tub shower. It's really a great place to bring the family because there really is something for everyone one here. read more

Salt Fork State Park is really great because they have bigfoot sightings there and it is famous for people who like bigfoot. They have a great gift shop with a lot a lot of bigfoot stuff. The lodge is nice too and they have nice/rustic cabins that we like and there is a lake. So we go there to hike and look for bigfoot. I mean you could bring some plaster of paris along in case you see a bigfoot track. Give it a try and look for bigfoot. also maybe knock on a tree with a piece of wood cause bigfoot likes that. read more

Met my parents here for a weekend afternoon as it was near the midpoint for each of us, about 2 hours away for both. Frankly, we were disappointed in the facilities at the park. We planned a picnic lunch but had trouble finding pavilions or really a good place to set up. We ended up eating at some dockside picnic tables by Salt Fork Marina. We noticed in a places throughout the park where there were grills but no picnic tables, so apparently they've cut back on picnic options over time. We went to go hiking in the camping area and encountered more difficulty there. The park doesn't offer any brochures or maps with sufficient detail of their trail system to actually understand how it connects. We went down one trail thinking it would connect to other trails based on the maps they had posted but it turned out it looped back on itself. We then set out to do about a 1.5-mile long loop hike on a couple trails. The trails were overgrown and extremely narrow with thorny bushes in places. In other places, they were a mudbog and it hadn't rained in a couple days. Towards the end, we thought the trail was heading towards a road based on the map. We ended up spotting the road in the distance but the trail turned away and went back downhill. We ended up bushwhacking through the trees to get to the road because we'd had enough of the trail disaster. I've been on remote Forest Service trails that were in way better condition that these that presumably get a lot more use. I'm very disappointed in ODNR for their lack of maintenance. read more

It's an awesome state park with beautiful scenery, trails, lake and campground. After making a few day visits, I decided to reserve a campsite for 2 nights and was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, my first night was June 13, 2022 when 2 derecho weather events with 60+ mph winds tore through the park overnight. My neighbors tents collapsed and tree limbs were down everywhere. I was up all night holding my tent up with my arms thinking I was probably going to die. It was one of the worst nights of my life and when morning finally came I couldn't get out of there fast enough, even though I had already paid for a 2nd night. I'll probably never go back there and wish I didn't feel that way because it really is a great place! read more

My family and I loved Salt Fork. There are so many wonderful things to do like hiking, fishing, horseback rides, pontoon rides, swimming and so much more! We visited Hosak's Cave, Bigfoot Ridge, Morgans Knob, the Stone House and the Nature Center. You can go to the beach or relax inside the Hot tub. The cabin we stayed at was awesome and SFSP is in the midst of remodeling. This is my family's 2nd year of staying at Salt Fork and we've already booked for next year. This is one of the better Ohio State Parks and I'd definitely recommend it! read more

Fun place, but think some improvements could be made. The lodge appears to be old, but it is just old looking. The rooms are just ok, as the beds sink in the middle and the rooms have a musty odor. No PPV movies, which is weird for a hotel, which this isn't but it is. Showers are hard to get going and good luck if you are over 5' 7"... but we are not here to stay in the rooms, right? Even for $179 a night, you are tempted to enjoy your room. The park map is hard to read and if you are into the hiking, good luck. Some of the trails are hard to find and once you do find them, there are parts that are very overgrown and even though it had been about a week since rain, the trails were soaked and we had to turn around and couldn't even complete 2 of them. There are about 14 hiking trails, ranking from 1/2 mile to 2 1/2 miles. Hosak's Cave is not as dangerous as they make it sound, even though there appear to have been some young people that fell off the cliff. It is a pretty cool looking area.... something that reminds me of when we were in Hawaii with a waterfall and cool rock formation. Check it out. Some of the other trails are serene and there are plenty of wildlife roaming around. We saw deer, beavers and some weird bugs. The actual lake here is humungous as it is more of a series of tributaries than one big open lake. There are 2 marinas where you can rent jet-skis, speedboats, pontoon boats, fishing boats, canoes or kayaks. We chose the speed boat, which is a 115HP baby who clips along pretty good. You don't need any course if you are born before 1982 and after about 3 minutes of instruction, we were off. Fun, but very expensive... a little under 2 hours set us back $190, but how many times do you do this kind of thing, right? Back at the lodge, the outdoor swimming pool was nice...warm and big enough for the people that were there. Unfortunately, there was a horrible band, who thought they were the best thing since sliced bread, and they made us leave after about 40 minutes. We went in to the restaurant, which is nothing to brag about. Standard burger, chicken, steak, salad menus for dinner and breakfast buffet. Service is slow and inaccurate and food is "meh". Ordered a beer, which was room temperature and the waitress didn't understand why I would want such a cold beer. Indoor swimming pool was crawling with rugrats after dark, but they had a nice bonfire about 100 yds past lodge. Roasting smores, someone playing guitar... seemed like it was geared more toward younger audience, but it was nice. They also have volleyball, tennis and game room and if what looks like an amazing golf course. Very hilly and wonderfully maintained. Kind of out of place though in the middle of a state park.... Overall a great place. Wish a little more attention was paid to the rooms and the hiking trails instead of the golf course and marinas. Fun time... good for a getaway with spouse or family. read more

I first visited SFSP website online and learned that availability of rooms for Valentine's Day was good. I eventually decided to book a private cottage opposed to a king size bedroom at the lodge for 2 reasons. A. Hot Tub. B. Fireplace. And to throw in a 3rd reason it was also right on the lake albeit frozen. There was a King Size lodge room package for cheaper that included food vouchers, and chocolate and champagne package, however I could not pass up the privacy and the above mentioned perks. I now decided to completely surprise my girlfriend as we both have been relatively stressed out from jobs and winter as well as recovering from flu like or even pneumonia like illness. I told her the Wednesday before the trip that I had made reservations for a weekend getaway but did not mention details, as I wanted to provide a bit of surprise. Friday rolled around after work. She and I had already pre-packed most of our belongings. I brought food for the kitchenette and began the 2 hour drive from our abode in greater Cleveland to Lore City Ohio. It was pleasant road trip filled with romantic chit chat and humor. Upon arrival she was blown away. The outside of the lodge itself is very rustic and appealing. The stone structure makes you feel like at your some precious getaway in the middle of the wilderness. The surrounding forestry is beautiful, even in the dead of winter. We checked in and decided to eat dinner at the lodge. We could not believe how quiet and empty things felt. It was perfect for privacy and feeling like you are the only people there. The food at the lodge was nothing remarkable, but we weren't there for the food, we were there for US. After dinner we were excited to see our room in person. She at this point still had no idea what to expect. We drove to the lake side chalet and parked the car. We walked down a small hill and then up a small flight of stairs onto a deck around the cottage, we opened up the door and explored the unit. When walking in immediately visible was the "living room" complete with gas fireplace, with the flip of a switch it was on and began to warm the room immediately. We then walked on the deck area to see the hot tub. She was ecstatic. I was ecstatic. Our room included 1 queen size bed and 2 bunk beds; enough for 6 people though it was just the 2 of us. We grabbed our belongings from the car and unpacked and settled in for our little get-a-way. No phones ringing, no electronics, just us, the fire place, the hot tub and each other. We talked, played a game of Uno, and enjoyed each others company in a much needed way. We sat in the hot tub until we became wrinkly, and then decided it was time for bed. We woke up the next morning to snow falling around the ice covered lake, which appeared as if it were a valley amidst small mountains. We decided to go back to the lodge for breakfast and coffee. After doing so we explored the lodge...played a little ping pong, some air hockey, worked out, and swam in the indoor heated pool and hot tub. It was a great way to spend the day carefree of the troubles of the working and living world. We then went grocery shopping to pick up a few things to cook. The scenery was just so relaxing. She was all I needed to have a good time and enjoy it out there. We drove around town for a bit and came back to the cabin. We cooked; we hot tubed, and actually put on the TV and watched animal planets Cats 101. Not a care in the world, all was glorious. We both secretly wished to ourselves that we did not want to return to reality a day later. We stayed up into the night and eventually went to bed. In the morning I was treated to an excellent homemade, err cabin made breakfast of sausage and eggs a-la fireside. We dipped in the hot tub once more and simply took in the view of the lake while doing so. Sadly our trip came to an end and we had to pack up and leave. The getaway here was not about luxurious expense or fluff. It was about us. If you're looking for luxury, this probably is not the place for you; after all it is a state park that happens to be the largest state park campground as well. However, you have what you need, and things are comfortable. Food is accessible either via town or the lodge restaurant, or if you bring your own. The staff at the desk was very pleasant and accommodated our needs. You are away from the rest of the world here, enjoy its simplicity. If there was anything they could improve upon I would say packages. I spent more money for a nicer room, and could have spent less for a smaller room and received food voucher, chocolate, champagne package; it would have been nice to have given the fact I spent more money than the king size lodge room, other than that, I was really happy and so was she. read more

After having come here many years its obvious updates and service are not on the managements mind...cabins are rundown and hugely over priced. 22$ per night hotels have better comfort that this and the rules are only followed if you feel like it. In your bill is charges for the internet that is not availbe unless you are actually in the lodge...Beds are apparently from the 1970's along with the bedding. Issues take multiple visits to the front desk to rectify. Golf is ridiculously priced!! Unfortunately I will not be a guest again read more

We've boated and stayed at the both the lodge and cabins. Here's the skinny: The lake is quaint and good for finding a little nook for anchoring. We bring"floatys" and do a some swimming, lunch,etc., but the ski areas are too crowded and choppy for a fun ride. It's best to start early in the day. The water is realitivley clean for a Ohio resevoir. Skip the cabins. They are over-priced, worn-out, circa 1970s moldy smelling remodels. Hot tubs on a small screened porch? No thank you. Too claustrophobic. They belong outside where you can look at the stars. Finally the lodge. It's... OK. A bit pricey. Rooms are clean, though dated. The building layout is confusing. Balconies are usless in the summer due to the 45-year-old-jet-engine-300dBA-HVAC-units, which also makes for a noisey sleeping experience. The resturant is, well, weird. There is a giant mural of confederate soldiers engaged in battle (Quantrill's raiders?), rebel flag et al. Creepy and highly inappropriate. The food wasn't that bad, somewhat pricey, but our server barely spoke English and was sloooooow. The whole experience at the lodge could be summed up as strange. Not entirely disappointing... just strange. read more

This is a pretty good place for family outings, group meetings, and as a starting point for hikes or boating trips on the lake. The Lodge was built in 1970 and is showing its age. The rooms are clean and pretty well maintained, but also show wear and have some annoying features like plumbing fixtures from the early 80's. (The shower head tried to peel my skin off) Also annoying is the blue nosed attitude of management. You cannot bring your own alcohol into the place and must buy whatever you want from their bar which opens at 5. My guess is most people ignore this. The setting in east central Ohio is very nice and the country side has great roads for motorcycles. read more

My husband and I had a great weekend at Salt Fork in mid-October 2020. The room at the lodge was spacious and clean and came with a microwave and fridge which was nice. Also, figured we'd have to get food to-go at the restaurant and/or the bar, but the bar at the lodge felt safe, with tables spaced far apart and a high cathedral ceiling. Also, the waitresses were great and all masked, and the food turned out to be really good, too. We hiked the hiking trails at the park and played disc golf at a course nearby and it was great to get away and feel safe at a really big, really pretty park. Also, special mention to Marlene's Restaurant & Bar in nearby Byesville - amazing big fat pancakes to go. Great pandemic getaway! read more

This is a great park for camping. My wife and I went camping in tents with some friends. We were disappointed with the spot that we chose because if you've never been there, it's hard to know what the best spots are. We had a spot right by the shower room which was convenient except that everyone else walked next to our tents throughout the entire weekend. It would be nice if they had would have had more trees around, but I really wish they would have pictures for the sites so it would be easier to choose your sites. Other than our actual site not being that great, the facilities were decent. The buildings seem like they could use some updating, but they are adequate. Since we slept in tents, we really only used the washroom so the outdated facilities didn't really affect our weekend. Overall, I liked the camp and I would go back again. read more

Attended a family reunion at one of the beach shelters at SFSP this weekend. Huge park, great birdwatching, nice hiking and a big shelter cave. No admission charge to the park (this is surprising for us Californians). Facilities in generally good shape (much better than California parks), especially the public meeting areas at the Lodge. The beach concession stand and miniature golf could use some refreshing. My brother in law brought dogs, and a dog park was available near the beach for them to run and swim, expend energy before the reunion itself. We stayed outside the park in Cambridge so no review of the rooms or food service there. read more

All of my reviews are solely intended for visitors seeking vegetarian, vegan, and, (my preference), plant based, whole foods. There were two options on their menu. There is a portobello sandwich I had on a previous visit. Ask them to hold the cheese and mayo. I've never be a big fan of portobello's, so I only have them when its the only choise. This time I had stir fry vegetables with a fruit side. Portions were a good size. However, it was served with butter (or oil). Not their fault. I didn't request anything special. read more

This place would be 5 stars for sure if they didn't have such terrible service in the restaurant! The golf course is excellent, the lake is large and have plenty stuff to do and the lodge is beautiful! But once you get into the restaurant you get this young careless kid named Kyle who just seems like he doesn't care about your experience and he just wants money and wants to leave! After about 30 minutes he'll come back with your drinks and then once you try your drink and it's wrong he'll come fix it 15 minutes later!! This place just needs to get rid of him! read more

Beautiful State Park, gorgeous lodge, well maintained trails. I stayed at the lodge last weekend for the Bigfoot 50k race. I expected an older, cozy, rustic lodge - and that is exactly what Salt Fork is. How anyone can be disgruntled about "outdated accommodations" when they're booking at a State Park is beyond me...the two go hand in hand. The only issue that I ran into was the hours of operation of the restaurant. While I completely understand limiting operating hours during the off season, I do not understand closing the only place that there is to get food in a 10 mile radius right as the race was ending. 130 hungry runners who have just run 31 miles in 17 degree weather, with nowhere open to eat. Yes, the race sponsors themselves provided a limited amount of soup for all finishers...but some of us were looking for a real meal post-race. In fact, many of us were. I heard several runners state that they would have eaten at the restaurant had it been open. My advice to F&B is that if an all day distance running event is being held at your facility, keep the kitchen open. Please. read more

4 stars for the park and 2 stars for the lodge rooms. We return to this park at least once a year because it is so beautiful and big. We met a friend of ours there since it's a halfway point for us. It would've been nice to spend the night but the pictures on the website weren't selling us. While there we asked for a key to tour a room and it wasn't any better in person. I would call it 70's chic but it's 70's non-chic. If this resort wants to properly represent the best of what Ohio state parks have to offer, they're going to have to remodel these rooms. The mattresses are in pretty bad shape too. It's as bare bones as you can get. We've rented cabins in the past and again, very bare bones. We will always come back to the park but to stay in the park, not likely. I'd love to see that change with a remodel though! read more
