Highly recommended! Jim knows his stuff so well that he can diagnose most appliance issues over the phone. In the phone call he determines whether he can fix the issue or not and if he can't he will tell you. The people who have written bad reviews because of this method just don't understand. Would you want someone to come to you, waste your time and charge you if he knew upfront he can't help? I called on a Friday night around 6:30pm because my fridge had stopped working. I was hoping he could come out on Saturday but on the phone he said he didn't want me to have to wait and asked if he could come over right away. I was happy to hear this and he was at the house in about 20 minutes. The problem was a burned out computer, he replaced it in about 30 minutes and we were back in business. Jim is a very soft spoken guy who can come across as gruff at times but he really cares about his customers and provides great customer service. Jim has been doing appliance repair for me for at least 15 years. I would never change. He's as straight forward as you can be and that may piss some people off. I read one review where the customer was ticked off because he told her to "buy a new one" (refrigerator) and he declined repairing it for her. Well, to me that's honesty. He knew that the customer would be wasting money. The other thing I like about dealing with Baker's is that almost every time I've called Jim, he's been able to accurately diagnose the issue over the phone and shows up with the correct part, fixes the machine and goes! When you're ready to leave for work and see that the laundry room floor is flooded and the washer is full of water and it's a holiday and Sears tells you that their first service appt is in 4 more days and it's 8am, that's a really bad feeling. Fortunately Mr. Baker was available to save the day! He answered the phone, got the model info, listened to my issue, and said he'd be over between 1pm and 3pm. He arrived at 2pm with the part needed having been picked up and ready to go. He solved the problem, checked the washer out and showed me (when he arrived) another problem that will likely cause some issues in a few months if I don't get it take care of (he's right ... I just hadn't noticed), and got the water turned back on. Believe me, I was glad to not have to try and reach someone else and maybe not have them show. He did mention that he was glad we didn't have a stackable w/d combo ... but I can understand that. A one-man operation might not be set up to manipulate that equipment inside a little laundry space, even if it IS a space-saver for the homeowner. I guess business and the economy is picking up because Mr. Baker turned me down flat. I couldn't believe it. I've never had this happen to me before. I was shocked. I have a stackable washer and dryer combination. He took one look at it and said that it was a job for two people, (like he didn't feel up to it?), and said, "I'll pass." So I guess if you have any doubts that your job is too complicated, call someone else? It is a shame. I called Baker's because our fridge stopped working. I was very happy that we were able to receive service the same day I called. VERY HELPFUL WHEN YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT A BROKEN FRIDGE! The repair man came within the window he suggested and got straight to work. He diagnosed the problem and provided an estimate for the work. He also said that if the repairs cost over $300 it was probably not worth fixing, we have an old fridge. He made the repair and also fixed a piece my husband and tried (unsuccessfully) to install himself. As a bonus he took out our ice maker which has never been used and was taking up room in the freezer. My 22-yo Sub Zero was running too cold. It appeared the temperature control mechanism was the problem. After several unfortunate experiences with other refrigerator repair places (recently and over the years), I asked my long-time plumber for a recommendation. He suggested I call Baker Appliance, a small, family-run shop in North Orange County. After a few telephone mix-ups, Jim Baker showed up as scheduled. Unlike others, he didn't pull out all sorts of diagnostic instruments, telling me "this part is out of balance" or "that piece has a reading below industry standards", followed by a hard sell on parts and service in the $400 range. After asking a few questions, he methodically removed a panel or two, and quickly found the problem: a temperature sensing wire had slipped over time due to motor vibration. He was able to move it back into place, and the problem was solved for less than $100. I will definitely call Baker again! Two years later, and I've called Baker for two more repairs. The first was in January 2014, when my 14-yo Kenmore dryer wasn't heating up. He showed up on time, quickly diagnosed the problem and repaired it. As he was working, I described a small problem with my Kenmore wash machine. Checking it out, he found a plastic part that I should have replaced years ago. He changed that for me, and I appreciated his preventive approach. Otherwise, the washer would have died within a few months, resulting in another service call. This week (June 2014), Baker fixed a loose door on my 60-yo Wedgewood range. I appreciated his ability to fix it without turning the job into some convoluted and costly repair due to its age. The result of all this is that my older appliances (Sub-Zero from 1989, washer/dryer from 2000 and range from 1954) are all running well thanks to Baker Appliance. read more

I strongly recommend NOT using this provider at all costs. He is dishonest and blatantly lies. I contacted him yesterday to ask about getting a repair on my dryer because it is not heating up. He told me that he sees this all the time and that it costs approximately $130 dollars. He also indicated that he cleans the vents while he is doing the repair at no charge. I explained to him that I am moving and will not be taking the washer and dryer with me in January, but I need it until then. However, I don't want to pay a lot to fix it (I would lease one instead) but if it's really 130.00, then come on over. As Mr. Baker was looking at our dryer, I asked if he had any of the hose that goes from the dryer to outside because ours is old and needs replacing. He replied with, "Isn't there a hardware store where you are moving to?"I said, of course, but we are in this house two more weeks before we move to a temp apartment, you are here now, so I thought I would if you can replace that as well. He mumbled something about how he only has it in bulk and he wouldn't even know how much to charge me. I said, but don't you just cut off what you need? I told him I can always get it myself if it's too much trouble. Mr. Baker took apart my dryer, and the next thing you know he is asking me to see the backyard where the vent goes outside. I thought to myself, what does the vent have to do with the coils? He next tells me the job is going to be $190. I said, you told me that the coil replacement runs about $130, and in addition I get a 5% discount for Angie's list (this is where I found him). He said, "But I didn't plan on cleaning the vent and replacing this hose vent." I reminded him that on the phone he told me he cleans the vent at no charge, which he denied ever saying. Now, in my mind, I was thinking that he was cleaning the vent that is inside the dryer, not the hose vent, because I never mentioned the hose before he arrived. Because . . . why on earth would you need to clean the hose vent in the back if you are replacing it???? This is where I catch him in a lie. I said, you are going to charge me $60 to replace the hose vent that costs about $10 at the store? He then claimed the charge was for the labor. To put a hose on the back of the dryer is $60? He then proceeded to tell me that he has to clean it and didn't plan for that. I said, why do you have to clean it if you are replacing it? He had nothing to say to that. He was trying to inflate prices, and when I questioned him, he must have been flustered and the first thing he could think of was he cleaning the vent. Yes, clean the vent if I am keeping my old one but you don't need to clean a brand new one!!! I told him to forget about the hose and to please just fix the coils--I will replace the hose myself. He said okay, then a minute later he said, I just don't feel comfortable not doing the job right so I am not going to do it at all. He said, and I QUOTE, "You can leave me whatever review you want on Angie's List, I don't care." This is the most dishonest person I have ever met. I asked him if he thought I was an idiot and would believe his story about it costing $60 to replace a hose all the while telling me he had to charge me for cleaning it. Not to mention, he kept going on about labor and cleaning the hose and how I am getting a 5% discount. Exactly. So even with your discount it's still that much? Which means you are charging me more than $60. I mean, the point of the job was to come out and replace the coils. It was an after thought that I asked him to replace the hose because he was there, and then suddenly the entire job was about the hose and he didn't feel comfortable doing the coils now because I opted not to pay $60 to replace and clean a brand new hose. It was a joke. I have never experienced anything like this before. It is my feeling that because I was there alone--my husband was on a walk--that he thought he found a sucker to pay for something that literally should be $20. DO NOT USE THIS PERSON. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! We had an appointment for Mr. Baker to come out yesterday between 3-5pm for a fridge repair. My husband took a day off work and of course, no show! We received a call at 5pm from Mr. Baker asking about the fridge issue and was able to diagnose the problem over the phone and said the part is unavailable and he come out later in the week. Well first off, how did he diagnose the problem over the phone without even seeing the fridge? Secondly, Why didn't Mr. Baker have this conversation with us initially?? My husband could have avoided taking a day off work. When we complained about this and ask him why he didn't give us advance notice or at least call us earlier so we didn't have to wait around.... his response was "I guess I'm in trouble, what do you want me to do about it?" I called Mr. Baker early on a Saturday morning to come and look at my fridge. The seals were getting hot and it was making a loud noise. He gave me a time estimate of between 1:00 and 3:00. He showed up right after 1:00. He was friendly and told me what I wanted to hear - that my fridge didn't need any new parts! Yay! He made a few adjustments and was on his way. This is a company I can trust. He came the next day. He gave me a two hour window and called in the morning to confirm. He called again when he was 15 minutes out. He quickly figured out the coil was out on my dryer and repaired it at a fair price. The burner on my stove was burning very low. I had a Frigidaire dishwasher which is clogged and the upper arm was not turning. I called Baker's Appliance Service in Fullerton, Jim showed up on time for the appointment on Saturday. He took off the whole bottom filter and housing, flushed it several times with his special solution, cleaned up the filter until water comes out clean again.
