This is my first time having to do a home inspection and as a newbie, I didn't know how to look for a good inspector and relied heavily on yelp reviews. Before deciding to go for this company, I read one of their reviews that someone complained the inspection took too long and the inspector dramatized every flaw of an old house, but ironically that's what made me hire them! As a buyer, I definitely want someone that would inspect every inch of the house, carefully, meticulously, instead of rushing to finish due to time manner! and I want someone who would point out every flaw so that I know what I may have to fix. (welp, not sure if a seller with an old house would want a good inspector though lol) In fact my inspection was done in 2hr ish, which I think is very reasonable and I followed Scot the entire inspection, asked million questions and he answered all of them, patiently. Also, I received my report the same day with so many details. I found the report educational too that he tells you what GFCIs and AFCIs are, what the pros and cons to have stucco siding, etc, etc. Love it! Another thing that makes me appreciate his work is that he shared how he used to do more inspections but less now and part of the reasons is because he has a new report system and he's still getting used to it, so things take longer. This little thing tells me that he focuses on quality not quantity that he makes sure every inspection can be done responsibly rather than doing more to have more money in the pocket. read more

I am a first-time homebuyer and I hired Scot Baker to inspect my prospective home, which was a new build. I was not able to attend the inspection due to work constraints. I was able to pay ahead of time and Mr. Baker emailed me a link to access the report the same day the inspection was completed. The report was organized, detailed, and easy to read even for a layperson like myself. The report had pictures of specific areas Mr. Baker identified during his inspection as needing immediate attention. Yes, even for a new build he found some things! There were diagrams and brief tips offered throughout the report, which were helpful. The report also noted things I should keep an eye on for the future, too. Mr. Baker responded promptly to voicemail and email messages. On his website, Mr. Baker has an email address where you can email him for a fast response. I had to do this even past regular business hours. I did not have the opportunity to meet Mr. Baker in person, but in the conversations I had with him on the phone, he was very professional and took his time to answer any questions I had. Even the construction team supervisor noted that Mr. Baker was cordial to him when he met him. Mr. Baker was flexible and was able to accommodate a reinspection of the major items he identified as needing to be repaired, within 2 days. He was understanding and even accommodated an earlier time than the one we originally agreed upon at the request of the builder who was really pushing to close and giving me grief throughout the whole process. There was a charge for the extra trip, which was fine since he was coming from Modesto and the home is in Stockton. I am pleased with the quality of the inspection and feel more relieved about moving into my new home now that an expert has gone in and looked for things I didn't know to look for. I will definitely use his services again and recommend him to anyone in his service area who may be in need of a home inspection. Prior to hiring Scot Baker as my home inspector, I did research his reviews online. The majority were good and the most negative thing I could find, which didn't seem negative to me at all when I chose him for the job was that he was "too detailed" - after all I was hoping to get someone who was thorough and would tell me the truth and not just dismiss things because it would be beneficial to every other party besides the buyer. No one wants the inspector hanging around their house all day. As a professional he should be able to get his job done in a timely manner. His report, all in red, is unreadable. dramatizing every flaw of a 45 year old home. Our last inspector broke all down into categories of what was a hazard and what was something to be aware of. The report was simple to read and understand- Not so with Baker. As sellers or buyers we need to know what is a red light issue and the report needs to be clear on this -not dramatizing every tiny thing he finds Regardless of what the website says about Covid-19 caution he did not wear a mask or take any safety measures that we could see. Sorry would never have this company back at any of my properties again. read more
