My friends in Ohio love stopping by the town of Troy. It is a very nice place full of shops and restaurants. We stopped here for a rest and a bite. I was still full from a large breakfast, but got a small gazpacho. WOW!!! It was wonderfully flavored and hit the spot. The baked goods that my friends had looked wonderful. Assorted breads and baked goodies were on the shelves. The bakery/café/restaurant has a friendly atmosphere. Even though it was busy, the people working the counters were amiable and efficient. All-in-all, it is a great place to sit down and relax. If I ever find myself in this area again, I will definitely stop here. read more

I was in town for a few days and everywhere I go, I enjoy trying new local restaurants. I went here for breakfast and had the Bakehouse breakfast club sandwich. I was not impressed. The bread was good, the ham was good too, but I get good quality eggs, ham and cheese at home too. When I eat out I like to get something better than what I can cook at home (and believe me, I'm not a good cook). I couldn't even taste the cheese there wasn't enough. I think I could have made this at home. I saw a lot of people enjoying the pastries. I would still go back to try a cookie or a scone. read more

I was sick so I thought I'd stop in for a cup of butternut squash soup, not bad by the way. I wasn't even hungry but smelled the bread and got an artichoke and prosciutto sandwich. When it arrived, I was disappointed to see about 2 mm worth of sandwich filling in a mountain of bread. But I changed my mind as soon as I bit into the sandwich. The fresh ciabatta roll was the star of this show. It was delicious, and I'll be back to try some more bread. read more

Love this place!! Went there and saw they had a strawberry rhubarb pie. Now hubby and I are really picky about those. Usually, they have a couple strawberries, a bit of rhubarb and a whole lotta fake strawberry goo. This on was NOT!! Lots of diced strawberries (which I loved)& rhubarb that was deliciously tangy!!! Bakehouse Bread is alright. The food is good enough, although some of it definitely tastes like it came out of the freezer earlier that day. Buying the individual loaves of bread is probably a better investment than buying the sandwiches in the restaurant. The meals are rather expensive considering the amount of food that they give you. Every time that I eat at Bakehouse I am a little disappointed, and I find myself getting hungry an hour later. They could definitely do more in terms of side dishes- the standard is just sub-par potato chips, which doesn't add much oomph to the meal. The atmosphere is very charming, with high ceilings and wood floors and a chance to peek back at the kitchen where all of the baking goes on. It feels like a trendy and sophisticated place to be, so if you're looking for a restaurant that will impress in terms of its appearance Bakehouse will be very appealing to you. However, if you're looking for really good, fresh food, I would recommend the Main St. Deli & Bake Shoppe just around the corner. In short: Bakehouse Bread's appearance lends it the benefit of being a trendy, sophisticated-looking bakery and restaurant. However, in terms of the food, there is always something lacking. My wife and I went here for lunch. She ordered the Bavarian and I order the New Yorker grilled sandwiches. They both were yummo! The size for a full sandwich was quite filling (like eating two junior B-K's) but light years better. A small portion of chips on the side, and a canned drink (which beside the sandwich was kinda unfitting for the meal itself). Overall, pleased, but they could bring in a soda fountain to make the entire meal feel a bit more (cafe-ish). We also got some bread samples of Cranberry Bread, Cinnamon Raisin Walnut, and Sourdough. All yummy as well (but I personally do not like nuts in my bread). Next Italian meal, we plan on getting one of their breads from the hearth. read more

We stopped in one morning while passing through town. Service was very slow, and it seemed they were very understaffed. They had a good selection of coffee and pastries, although they took too long to refill the empty coffee canisters. My husband ordered an egg sandwich, and after 10-15 minutes they brought out a Breakfast Club...not what he ordered, but he ate it anyway. By the time we were ready to go, they finally refilled the coffee, so I just filled my cup to go. I'm not sure that I would go back here again. read more

One of my favorite lunch places. Fresh baked bread, soups, salads, sandwiches, cookies and other baked goods. I often dine with 2 young kids - they accommodate our craziness (although no changing table). Frequent customer punch card for bread. On nice days a few outdoor tables. My crew is not usually up for breakfast, but the menu looks good. Always something good on the seasonal menu. Love the bread bowls with clam chowder (Fridays), ginger molasses cookies, chicken salad, Rueben. Usually something to accommodate vegetarians, but a little challenging if you need gluten free (but it's a bakery so that's to be expected). Staff is friendly! The food is just alright. I ordered a strawberry salad in celebration of the Strawberry festival going on outside. It was very small, and very bland. A few pieces of strawberry thrown a top of a cup of spinach with 3 or 4 cubes of cheese ,a handful of almond slivers, and pointless sesame seeds is not something that should cost $7.50. If you're looking for a good salad, do yourself a favor and go to panera. Their salads are in the same price range, but they are double the size and actually include meat. read more

Few months ago my husband was out running errands around Troy so he stopped in to Bakehouse to see what they had. He brought home some Italian Wedding Soup with bread and handmade chips and a loaf of Hallah Bread. I LOVE this hallah bread as it is basically egg bread. The soups was so flavorful and not too salty. I love the quality she puts into her handmade breads and pastries. You taste the love in each bite. I dont really enjoy the prices for the smaller sized portions you receive. The loaf bread is fresh and priced right for the specialty. I'm normally not a fan of deli style sandwiches, but this place is one of the few I'll eat. We have had them cater for many work meetings, and the guests seem to really enjoy it. The pricing is great! My favorite is the Turkey and Cheese sandwich on cranberry bread. It reminds me of Thanksgiving in one sandwich! The baked goods here are also wonderful. I've gone back to purchase some of the cookies. The environment is so adorable! You can see them baking the bread, and it's such a down to earth feel. read more

This cafe is highly overpriced for the quality of food they serve. The sandwiches were microwaved, and the chips were stale. The service was also very poor. For one thing the workers werent friendly, but neither was the owner herself. I heard that woman yell at two different employees in front of customers for minor things. We bought 2 loafs of bread and both of them could have tasted good, if they didnt seem like they had been sitting out all day. There were flies all over the bread that they had just sitting out in the open. I dont think I will ever eat there again, I would much rather go somewhere else instead of wasting my money there. read more

This is a lovely little hometown spot with a nice atmosphere but the food is VERY underwhelming. I ordered a seasonal pita to go. Roasted butternut squash, sliced apples, spinach, and aioli ... sounded delicious. When I opened the bag I literally thought they had made a mistake and given me a kid's meal. The pita pocket was about the size of half a small hamburger bun at McDonald's and there was not much inside it either. The ingredients were fresh but amounted to a few nearly raw shreds of squash, about 1/4 c. spinach with chewy stems, 3-4 slivers of apple, and a glob of aioli. Unbelievably overpriced at $7.50. IF I ever I go back I will perhaps try purchasing a loaf of bread and create my own sandwich. Very disappointing! read more

I grew up in Ohio, but having gone to school in New York and now living in Seattle I have acquired a taste for great baked goods. Bakehouse Bread is a gem of a bakery with an old world feel that produces baked products using European techniques. The breads are crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside, the cookies are rich, buttery, and packed full of goodies, the pastries are flaky and not too sweet. The staff is attentive and polite. It was a pleasure to find such a unique spot in downtown Troy and I would recommend it highly. read more

Get the bakehouse club! It is juicy and flavorful, and it is my go to eating place in Troy; however, parking is difficult at times. If you have a hard time, try parking on a back street on the same block. Either way I still highly recommend trying it out. read more

The food here is quite good. I thought the prices were a bit high for the sandwiches. They were $7+ for a medium size sandwich and chips. Would have been more reasonable with a cup of soup. I used to love coming here for a freshly baked goodie and a cup of coffee on Saturdays, but I have to say, things there have changed, and I'm very umimpressed. The baked goods have gone down in size and up in price. The sandwiches have gone through a similar change, even more apparent. My fiance ordered their seasonal sandwich, which was advertised outside the shop as one of their freshly baked breads with tomatoes, avocados, radish sprouts, and chive spread. While the description was technically accurate, the portion size was astonishingly small. One thin slice of bread with cream cheese and chives, a couple of diced tomatoes, maybe 1/4 of an avocado and no more than 3 radish sprouts and no side dish to speak of. the price-$7.50. I want to support local businesses and quality food, but that was such a ridiculous mark up that I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone for lunch. Bread and sweets, maybe, but absolutely not for lunch. read more
