Updating my review as I have now gone to Bake on the Run at three different locations & several times and have literally made up reasons to go to Portland just so I can get Chef Bibi's food. She and her son Michael have been so kind every time I have met them and deserve even more recognition than they've received. The newest spot has nice indoor seating and a good selection of other vendors as well as a bar if thats your thing and a lot of outdoor space for nicer weather. The daal is like a warm hug and the saltfish bake and Guyanese chow mein are next level. Prices are pretty good as well. The hot sauce is also chef's kiss. I have taken multiple family members with high standards for Caribbean food and they have all raved about it for weeks after. 10/10 would go back to Portland just for this.

Tried the Dahl over rice and an order of the bombs. Both were excellent and we'll be back. If you decide to go, go early because sometimes they sell out by 6:00 p.m.!

This is my first time trying Guyanese cuisine and the owner Michael is super friendly, generous with his time, and shares his culture one customer and sample bite at a time. I picked up two Chana Bakes and the curry filling to fried pastry ratio was perfect. They were out of salfish so we'll have to return and try out the rest of the hearty menu. The food is prepared pretty quickly considering the steady stream of regular and new customers. A visit is sure to warm your belly and soul.

Wow! Just wow! The first thing on the menu is Jai's Guyanese Dahl in a cup and it's so good I got it twice! I got a cup, ate it, then went back for a second cup. Do yourself a favor and have a cup! Trust me. Super friendly family. You know you can trust the food when mom is in there cooking. This cart is a MUST try when at the Heist.

Curry chicken, Guyanese Potato Chicken Curry on Basmati Rice - Gluten-Free

I stopped by Bake on the Run for lunch and had an amazing experience. Michael, the owner, welcomed me with a generous sample before serving me the curry chicken dish, which ended up being the highlight of my day. It was hearty, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. If you're looking for something delicious and a little different, give them a try. You won't be disappointed!

Potato chicken curry, Dahl, salfish combo rice - IG @bougiefoodieboi

I haven't really had Guyanese food before so this spot appealed to me. It is a food stall style place where you order in front and eat in any of the open seatings indoor or outdoor. The lady working the stall is very friendly and gave us samples of the Dahl soup and Dahl and salfish bakes to try. They were decent sized and as someone that loves to check out a variety of items, the bakes were so good but portions from the menu are huge so I had to pick one or the other. We settled with the potato chicken curry, Dahl, and salfish rice combo which turned to be $22 as the lady says the combo costs a bit more with the potato chicken curry. The potato chicken curry is pretty good although the chicken is a bit on the drier side. The dahl tasted consistent and the salfish is wonderfully made. It is piled on top of a large heap of rice that we couldn't really finish because there was a lot. I took off a star because I felt like we got a bit upcharged for the combo. My receipt says "custom amount" and that a combo itself is $15 and the potato chicken curry is $19 so it doesn't really add up. I would understand charging $22 for it if there was better ratio of the items to rice, but we were a few bites in and all that is left is a lot of rice. We got "full" cause of the rice and not the actual food itself. Don't get me wrong, the food is very good, but then I feel a little shortchanged.

The two 200+ hour drumsticks over basmati rice with curry. So good.

Stopped here on a Sunday. One menu item only, two chicken drumsticks scored and brined in a 200+ hour process and then air fried, served over basmati rice with both a special curry sauce and a hot pepper sauce - the owner was very convincing touting both the process and showing customers the finished product. Wow. What amazingly tender and flavorful chicken. The sauces, very different from each other, both went wonderfully with the most amazing chicken drumsticks I have ever had. Highly recommended. Not sure if they do this every Sunday or not, but WOW, was it good.

What a treat to finally try Guyanese food. My partner was super happy that they had vegetarian options and they pack a lot of flavor. We tried salfish (salted cod) with omelet rice, and also the dahl and potato chana mix. Just wow. Everything was delicious and came in large portions. The sailfish with omelette rice was lighter than expected and was well balanced with cod pieces super flaky. The dahl and potato chana were also amazing and taste different than the Indian versions. It had full bodied flavor and you can tell they cook with love. Vibe of this food cart pod was also great. People were playing ping pong, kids were running around an adults were really happy drinking beer and enjoying food. This was a super amazing vibing place and it helps that you can find Guyanese food here!

This 5 star review is based on only tasting samples... that's how good their food is. We were not aware of the very high ratings they have... now we know and we also know how delicious the food is. The chef's son, who was at the window was quite a character, in a good way. He gave us an intro to Guyanese food, and specifics on their food and why it is the greatest. Also, that it is the only place on the whole western coast to get Guyanese food. They have their noodles shipped in from Guyana! I was paying attention, and he was really giving us a schpiel (in a good way too). What was genius of him, was that everyone that walked by, he asked if they are familiar with Guyanese food. This is the same thing he asked us... and we had no idea of what their food was. We didn't even know where it was located just 5 min's before (it is in S. America by the way). He gave us a sample, a small paper cup of lentils. OMG. I've had many lentil dishes and cooked them too... but this was much much better. It's like the flavors came over and gave me a great big hug. You know she cooks with LOVE. The colors were nice, it was chunky like full of good things. Then we got another sample, it was fry bread with potatoes and veg I think. It was delicious and different from anything we have had. I should add he also asked us if we like spicy... we do. We got a few drops of their pepper sauce. Then we bought the last bottle. This also is so different and delicious. They make it and sell their own recipe. The label says "it's more flavor than heat." I would agree, and highly recommend it. It has cucumber, vinegar, and habanero as the base. In addition to be delicious food, he and his mom the chef were very friendly. He asked our names... who does that? And both him and his mom said it was nice to meet us, with big smiles. I know they have chicken, and salt fish. Which we will be trying next time. Lentils said they were vegan. Wow!

Seriously some of the best food I've tasted and not just here in Portland! Absolutely, delicious! I had the chicken & potatoes over rice and the Dahl, both fantastic! My daughter had the vegan noodles and said they were delicious! family business and we were welcomed as one of theirs! Highly recommend!!

    Potato Chicken Curry Rice Bowl
    Adam Z.

Very solid place. The potato chicken curry rice bowl was good. I really appreciated the quality of the chicken. I'm a little picky about chicken. I think it's hard to get it right. I find that for chicken breast it's usually too dry, and for other cuts of chicken there are often pieces of cartilage or fat that gross me out. But not with this chicken. It had a nice texture, some juiciness, and also no weird pieces. Nice. I think the dish was lacking in a few areas though. It could have used some sauteed onions. Some vegetables, maybe green peas. Something to kinda cut through the meatiness and spice. Maybe some acid. Some color. Some texture/crunch. Given these shortcomings I see it as more of a home-y, comforting meal than something I'd go out of my way for. I also appreciated the very generous portions. I was genuinely full after the meal, which is very rare for me to say. I think most people would end up taking home leftovers. Those chocolate balls were also pretty good. They're made fresh and hot, which is probably the most important thing to me. To nitpick, I think the chocolate could have used a bit more intensity. I thought it was a little flat.

    Lots of goodness

First time in their new space, I'm gonna like this pod once it's completed. Mother and son owner-operators are so nice. Like my last visit years ago, they are still very generous with their samples. One reason is that most have probably never tried Guyanese food. I'm not a fan of Indian dal, but the Jai's Dahl (yellow split-pea curried soup) is delicious! I went off script and ordered the Chow Mein. Liked it, but didn't love it. The portion was ample so leftovers created that "two meals for the price of one" satisfaction. They are a shining example of what the Portland cart scene is all about.

We were visiting from out of town and were very excited to try this place. My husband has Guyanese roots and was craving some authentic Guyanese food. This place checked all the boxes. The owners were extremely kind and welcoming. We enjoyed chatting with them and we can tell they are passionate about what they do and make. The Chana and Salfish bake were to die for. We also had the Nutella and jam bake for dessert. (we got the chocolate bake bombs too because why not) I highly recommend coming here because it's some of the best food I've had in Portland! We will be coming back very soon just to try new things at this place.

Teen wanted boba, and we decided to order Mediterranean from this place which also strangely sells boba. Yes, I rewarded the chore avoidance. Sue me. I worked four tens, all week my mental health clients were stressed and distressed, and I was honestly a lump. We both ordered a Moroccan stewed chicken that comes with saffron rice, salad, and three spicy sauces - one yogurt and maybe sumac? , one sriracha, and one yogurt mixed with sriracha maybe?
