I'm not doing backflips of joy over my experience, but it really was quite lovely. Here's the review I wrote for Trip Advisor: We stayed over a Saturday night, on March 31st. We had originally wanted to stay in the lodge building, but it wasn't open yet for the season. It's just as well, we had a delightful time in the main house. We were the only guests, since it was a misty, chilly weekend (we were up to visit friends). The owners are helpful and friendly. We stayed in the Cranberry Room ... I feel like the web site photos do not do the room justice. The furniture is very nice, without the lace and frills of too many B&Bs. The queen bed was comfortable enough ... we didn't sleep well, but I don't blame the bed, I think we just sleep best in our own bed! The house itself retains a lot of its original 19th century details, like original hardware, so if you like "old houses", you'll like this one. Breakfast in the morning was right on time, and delicious. Special mention goes to the views - this area is gorgeous, even on a rainy March/April weekend. I would definitely come back. The only negative I can think of is that the road leading to the house is not paved, which may present a problem, especially at the bottom of the hill. (It's also badly marked, but so are many roads in the region). The drive for the house is not paved, either, but I felt like that went with the country atmosphere, so I'm not sure it's a detriment. For the price, and the area, a great value, and a wonderful stay.

The B&B is located on the second floor of a building that previously housed a printing business. The building is located on the main street of Gilbertsville, Commercial Street, and is one of the buildings included in the Historical Registry of the village.

We never imagined that one of the best aspects of our weekend would be where we stayed. The Inn is beautiful, just incredibly maintained. The proprietors are a married couple who are so nice and attentive! Everything is immaculate! And it just has the nicest 'feel' to it. You're staying in a home, and the owners are happy to have you there! I just wish I'd discovered the Splendor 4 years ago, and we could have been staying here during all of our visits to Colgate. My girlfriend and I spent a few hours here on a Sunday afternoon in May. If you rent a boat you can keep it out as long as you want, and you have access to the whole property for the entire day. We spent awhile in kayaks and had the whole lake to ourselves for the entire time. We then spent some time down at the swimming hole and had that to ourselves as well. Everyone who works there was incredibly friendly and helpful. Beautiful day overall and the perfect end to a perfect weekend getaway.

Our bagged breakfast was missing a few items we ordered. That really was not ideal, as we had a long drive ahead of us to the city. So we ended up having to stop to get a couple of things since what we planned on having was not there. Also, the wait for someone to be at check in was long. We went to the Stratton falls first accidentally. It's 2.5 miles from where our location was. Apparently, the guy at check in saw us and knew we were at the wrong property (they were full at that location) but didn't tell us when he saw us. (We didn't see him). When my son finally found someone (that guy) he said "I saw you when you came in and knew you went to the wrong place...". Ok.... So you just let us stand around for 12 min, before we went searching for you? He wouldn't even give us more than "it's down the road." Directions to the other place. That guy was an awful first impression. The lady at our location was lovely, but he made the initial feeling stick with me. So, customer service sucked because of him. I had friends that came to meet us from 30 min away and had to wait an additional 20 min thanks to that guy. Would I suggest it? If the service continues like it was... no. Fun themes though. I hear they moved to new ownership, so maybe that's what is going on.

Falling asleep to the sound of the water from our deck made the experience feel truly special. Even with the cold weather, there were still plenty of activities to keep our family entertained. Between the waterfalls, game room, Netflix, life-sized chess, foosball, air hockey, the Crooked Cabana bar, hot tub, and dry sauna -- this place truly has it all. A special thank you to Chuck for making our Mother's Day weekend even more memorable than we could have imagined. All of the rooms are en suite and very comfortable. There is also a living room where we hung out after dinner one night and met the other guests. In the entryway there is bottled water and a fridge for guests with glassware. The entrance is on a keypad so you can get in 24 hours a day. There is a nice backyard area as well which we were unable to enjoy as it rained the entire weekend. Reservations can only be made over the phone, and there are only 4 rooms, so be sure to book in advance.
