If you like staying in your Grandmother's guest room, this place is for you. It is dated and quite kitschy-each room has thrift store pictures uncentered on the walls, mismatched kitchen cafe curtains in the windows and mismatched towels in the bathroom. We found it to be a perfect home base for our weekend at French Woods. We were surprised by the previous review!! Our rooms were clean and bright. We found the owner (Pete- a retired judge with a fun sense of humor ) to be charming and kind. Chatty and attentive. He even offered to allow us to pick fresh blueberries on his farm on the hill behind the motel. He told interesting stories, was very solicitous, and brought fresh oranges in the morning. Oh- and free wi-fi. Make no mistake, this is definitely not fancy or modern. It is cute and homey and warm. Say hi to Pete and ask to smell the lilacs.

    Quaint and lovely :-)

I went to a wedding in Fish Eddie and stayed here for only one night. We communicated through emails. Becky replied nicely and upgraded me to a queen bed room. Since I drove alone and not familiar with this area, she gave me a lot of useful advices and checked the routes for me (the bridge closed so I had to detour...). The next day before I left, she cooked homemade breakfast and let me take my time enjoy my coffee even though it was a little bit late. Usually I'm a very picky guest, but I love this place so much! Feel so thankful for her warm hospitality. Can't wait to go back soon! Highly recommended!!

From our first interaction with the owner, Becky, we had nothing but an incredible experience. We called to book the weekend, and since it was after the high season of summer, she gave us a special rate for two nights in the Honeymoon Suite. We sent her in a deposit, and called her the day of to confirm the best time of arrival. She was completely casual and accommodating and said to just stop by whenever. When we showed up, she gave us the tour of the Suite, which turned out to be the entire basement of her home! We had a private entrance, a working fireplace, a full ensuite bathroom with an incredible shower setup, a huge sectional sofa that could have fit at least eight people, a master bedroom with a queen size bed, as well as a second twin bedroom that we did not even use. Perfect if we ever go back and bring more guests with us! After we unpacked Becky invited us upstairs for wine and cheese with the other guests. I thought that sort of thing only happened in movies! She gave us some great recommendations for places to go for dinner, and asked what time we would like breakfast in the morning. When we said we were flexible, she said warmly, "well that works for me, you don't need reservations here!" The next morning we had delicious, strong coffee, I had eggs with green peppers and onions with oat nut toast, and my boyfriend had stuffed French Toast, two huge slices of Italian bread glued together with fresh sliced strawberries and ricotta cheese. We even started the meal with two generous slices of banana cream cheese coffee cake, some of the moistest, sweetest start to breakfast that we have ever had. Later that afternoon, she invited us back up to the kitchen for tea, and, you guessed it, slices of the leftover cake. For our second day, she surprised us with souffle apple pancakes, a cross between an apple pie and a pancake, a delicious, buttery, crusty sweet and savory concoction made in a cast iron skillet. Not only that, but since we were the only guests that morning, we had to eat the entire sinful cylinder ourselves - oh well! We washed it down once more with plenty of delicious coffee and some of her homemade sausage that was made locally. The estate her house is on is simply gorgeous, and is adjacent to rolling green pastures where her horses live. While there is no horseback riding (bummer), you can walk up to the fence to see them grazing and take some breath taking pictures. Her dog, Milo, a Sheltie, is a delightful host's accomplice, who loves to play fetch and get petted. We had a lovely, relaxing weekend in the country at Becky's Bed and Breakfast, and cannot wait for next fall when we return.

But the…read moreWoodstock hubs and I have loved in the last 21 years, went from funky- yet quaint to snotty-ass in recent years. Don't get me wrong, we still do day-trips to relive our many years we've vacationed there. And because Woodstock has been cramped, hubs decided to come up further out west to the sticks- without the snobbiness. We also got away for other reasons: my mid-winter recess from school and because my husband was a Navy man for umpteen years- where there's history and water, he's there. Green Acres Retreat made the cut for its style and close proximity to the Delaware River. Plus Green Acres R shifted from an old-fashioned motel to one that offers charm in spades since their '20 renovation. With 10 (I think) curated rooms, ours, was bold (for these parts) and extremely comfortable. From the crisp and plush white bedding, kitchenette, and walk-in shower- we were good. Green Acres' room designs lean towards nature with a tasteful feel. Be mindful that Rt17 is the main thoroughfare here- so you will hear 18-wheelers zoom by from your room. The heater made our room toasty- but the overhead vent layout was a bit off-putting. Towels were abundant, safe deposit box available as well as a mini fridge. The only negative for me was the plain mini wrapped soap bars for sink use and shower. And for these renovated rooms, offering classy mini toiletries add a wonderful sense of richness- which were missing here. And for $175 a night, the flimsy mini bar soaps weren't cutting it.

My bf booked a night for us here after receiving a targeted Instagram ad. He's an absolute sucker…read morefor targeted ads, and I must congratulate Farmhouse Catskills on their marketing prowess; however, the marketing strategy gives you a pretty good idea of what you can expect. This place is definitely instagrammable... but unfortunately not much more than that (at least for now). Pros: They've done a seriously beautiful job on the decor- lots of grays and moody dark blues, mid-century furnishings, and prolific use of some of the best artificial tropical plants I've ever seen. All of it is as pretty in person as it is in those Instagram ads. When you walk in, there's ambient music that matches the vibe perfectly. We didn't take a dip in the pool because it was kind of chilly, but I thought it was neat that there was a poolside DJ. It's also worth mentioning that this place is clearly very dog friendly, and as a dog-lover-but-not-owner I was happy to be able to pet so many pups on the property. And there's a decent pool table, yay! Cons: It's pretty clear that this place was sort of hastily opened in an attempt to pull in some cash before the end of the summer, without being adequately prepared and staffed. (It kind of reminded me of one of those house-flipping shows on HGTV.) In our room, one of the ceiling lights still had blue painter's tape around it. The door (which opened to the outdoors) stuck badly, and the knob was not really appropriate for the purpose- more of a closet or bathroom doorknob than something secure for a hotel room- no deadbolt, etc. We had the same troubles with the hot water that another reviewer mentioned. We had to wait almost an hour to get a cocktail at the bar because it was understaffed. I imagine there were just one or two bartenders serving the bar, restaurant, and pool areas. (For the record, the cocktails were nice, though, as was the bartender.) At one point a man who seemed to be more or less in charge of things (but somewhat overwhelmed) was quite rude to us and another couple we were socializing with in the bar area. The morning we were to check out, a housekeeping person opened the door to the room at around 8:30 AM when we were still asleep. She apologized and said, "Oh, my manager said you already checked out!" We said "No, isn't check out at noon?" She confirmed and went on her way. No big deal. But about an hour later, ANOTHER person barges into the room and says her manager told her we had already checked out. (I'm guessing that her manager was the aforementioned overwhelmed guy.) In short: This place has definite potential- again, so pretty!- but it seems the focus right now is aesthetics over experience. At a lower price point I'd probably call it four stars, but at $300/night in the middle of nowhere, I'd expect better management and service. I'd be interested to see if they work out some of the kinks next summer.
