Addison House Bed & Breakfast - Breakfast!

    Addison House Bed & Breakfast

We stayed in the Rose Suite last weekend. We were greeted by Boston Terrier whose name I can't…read moreremember, but he was really cute. The people were very nice as was the room/sitting room. It's really "antiquey" on the inside, like you're visiting grandma's house. I'm more partial to lighter colors and not much into having all the tables/shelves covered with antique knick knacks but it was still pretty. There was a big Godiva chocolate bar waiting for us on our bed when we arrived- yum! The bed was super comfy but not the best for tall people- it came up a little short for my 6'1" hubby. The bathroom is small with separate hot/cold faucets and a claw foot tub, but no stand-up shower. There is a shower hose attachment and great water pressure, but having to hold it while bathing reminded me of a camp shower- except for the good water pressure part. There is a modern shower to use upstairs too if that's your preference- just ask. They have a large front porch with several places to sit and read- so we did. There's big pool in the backyard with a screened-in gazebo- necessary because of the mosquitoes. Pool temperature was perfect and there are several cats that hang out back there. A huge orange striped cat named "Wally" and his much smaller but same color sidekick "Julia" let me pet them while I was hanging on the side of the pool. That was very cute especially since most cats would want nothing to do with that. It was really hot there but that's not why I went for a swim. The only place within walking distance where we could have a drink was about half a block away- The Choconut Inn. Total dive and full of smokers- that's why I went for a swim- so the chlorine could kill the smoky smell and disinfect any part of me that touched anything in the bar. We then opened the bottle of wine we brought with us and read on the porch while it rained along with thunder and lightning- an awesome summer storm! Breakfast was amazing! Berries and cream, coffee, tropical carrot juice, I think(?) for the first course followed by the best ever egg's benedict with hashbrowns topped with chived sour cream and fresh blueberry muffins. It was all soooo good! (See pic of first course) Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others as well. Just bring books to read, some snacks and your own wine (you can't buy alcohol in PA unless at a bar/restaurant- I know, OMFG!) and you'll have a very enjoyable, relaxing visit.

What a lovely surprise on our journey home from the Adirondacks! Part cafe, antique store and B &…read moreB, this small town entrepreneur would do great in the big city, too. Homemade soups, awesome chili, fancy Chicago Dog on worlds best bun, incredible and HUGE chicken salad sandwich all served in quaint (but not too "foofy") dining room in old classic home. New Berlin looks like its fallen/falling on some hard times, hopefully this quality place survives! We will plan our next trip up to make it to a Friday Fish Fry, I'm sure it will be wonderful. One tip, hard to tell its a cafe when driving through town, so keep your eyes peeled!

I've been meaning to try their fish fry for a few years now. Last weekend, I decided to run in and…read moregrab a fish fry dinner to go. I was greeted by a very pleasant young host, and she quickly found a waitress to take my order. I figured I would have some time while waiting, so I started to explore other areas of the building, besides the front hallway. There is a nice little cafe/dining area consisting of (I believe) two rooms, and there were also people dining outside on the front porch, where the tables have umbrellas. This old building has charm, and I think they have guest rooms upstairs. Just as I began poking around a room that I realized was an antique shop, the waitress came and found me, and my dinner was ready. Definitely a nice experience at this place. I took the food home, and I was satisfied. The very large piece of haddock was nicely breaded and tasty. The baked potato was also very good - I think it was baked with sea salt, resulting in a very flavorful skin. The cole slaw had pineapple in it. I thought this was weird, but when I finished it, I definitely wanted more. I think this meal cost $12 and change, and I felt that it was a good value. This is a solid spot for Friday fish fry, especially considering the surrounding area. I'll be back, not only because of the food, but the service and character.
