Great mom and pop shop, great prices. We came on a Sunday, brunch time and this place had non stop business. It's very causal- order at the counter they bring it out to you. No stupid iPad tip buttons when you pay. But yeah tip the workers here- they are hustling to get you served. My friend who I came here with said it's been here for decades. I had the lox which at $11 seemed very reasonable coming w all the fixings. Kids had omelettes that come w bagel, potatoes and fruit. My friend had a pistachio muffin which was tasty and good. Bageland is tucked away on the backside of the Shoppes at Thornebook Village. It wasn't that busy on a weekday morning around 9 AM. I ordered the lox bagel sandwich on an everything bagel. It's always interesting to see how different places put their twist on the classic lox bagel, and for Bageland this means big pieces of iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, and a generous portion of raw red onions. This gave the sandwich a crunchy, juicy kick, but it was a little lacking on the lox, capers, and cream cheese. The bagel itself was about average. Don't come here unless you want to wait 45 minutes for a damn bagel. Sat here and watched people that ordered AFTER us, eat and leave while we sat looking around for our food. When we brought it up, they blamed it on being busy but that's honestly bullshit. Unfortunately, I expected way more. A friend and I were craving a bagel & lox so we decided to try Bageland and we were pretty disappointed. The bagel wasn't toasted and was so extremely salty that I couldn't finish it. The restaurant was also very outdated. BUT, the staff was very friendly and the coffee was really good. I've always loved this place. Even when busy they are prompt which is important to me because I never have extra time in the morning. All bagels are super fresh and you can customize anything you want. They also do Asian cuisine on Tuesday's and Thursday's I have yet to try it but my friend says it's amazing. My go to is the ham egg and cheese on everything bagel. You can get a la carte or with sides which are fresh fruit and potatoes. I usually can eat this for two days because the bagel is so full. My only complaint would be there's usually one thin slice of meat and I don't usually eat meat but when I do I would have cared for another slice. Other than that my favorite bagel store and they are local so I love giving my money and business to local places. You won't be unsatisfied leaving here! read more

DISAMBIGUATION of two "Bageland" in Gainesville, FL Yelp threads: - The original Bageland very close to UF closed 12+ years ago -- that old location was the origin of this thread, but already closed by then, as reviewer noted in 2007. - The 2nd Bageland (same owners/family) opened around late 1980's or early 1990's (?) in the "Shoppes of Thornebrook." This has a separate set of Yelp reviews, under the name "Bageland Thornebrook." IMHO, this should be titled "Bageland" period, essentially replacing the other thread. I suggest that Yelp merge these reviews all into one thread / one set of reviews [however, add an explanatory note to the 2007 review that says "closed"]. ------------- When the first Yelp review for _this restaurant was posted in 2007, the writer even mentioned 'sad that this location [already] closed.' So he was referring to the late, great University area Bageland, at approximately 1735 NW 1st Ave, Gainesville, FL -- just east of the back doors of St. Augustine Church. Good local place to go for bagels and such. We typically go for some variation of a bacon, egg and cheese. You can get it as a platter that includes a side of fruit and breakfast potatoes. Nothing fancy, reasonably priced, good coffee. The seating area is a tad small but we always seem to find a table, I think a lot of people get to go. The line is usually long at breakfast time but they move through it pretty quickly. read more

I walked in there this past week,Sept 2019. (Next to Metro Diner, good service good food decent coffee at the Metro bty) Ordered a bagel with vegetable cream cheese and half dozen bagels at BAGELAND $11.00 RIGHT...First of the women behind counter was COLD..Asked if the bagels were made in store I received a sharp, yeap..These Bagels are from ALDIS! GUARANTEED! They are not made in house. extra bagels I ordered were pre-cut(Store Bought).The cream cheese I bet is also from ALDIs.. ALDIs sells good products but their Cream Cheese is more on the tangy side than creamy. I used there bathroom and I would have reservations on letting my dog take a squat in there. The sink was dirty the Faucet had enough hard water lime all over it that it would fit in nicely in Australia's Coral Reef...Thought Nemo the little clown fish would pop out. And the kitchen which you can clearly see passing by to use restroom. Cluttered and not too clean. The flat top griddle was and is black. Those griddles if its a decent griddle are made from Belgium steel. I used Hot boiling water at end of day and Steel Pads to get it sparkling again, everyday my partners and myself. BOTTOM line to all the young College kids who have to watch there $$ and the working people.. NOT WORTH THE THE MAALOX afterwards. read more
