Non-descript bagel shop in Scarsdale; the Golden Horseshoe shopping Center 2 be more specific. Firstly they don't take credit cards or Apple Pay. Odd for this part of Westchester. That all changed a few days ago when a friend of mine called and suggested we meet there for a cup of coffee and what he described as the best bagel bakery. I was intrigued since I consider myself to be a bagel connoisseur so I agreed to meet my friend at Bagel Power on Wilmot Rd. I choose to have a sesame flagel, which is a flattened bagel. This is the first review I am writing in my life about a store or restaurant accusing them of differential treatment of customers or, simply put, racist behavior from the owners. I saw customers ahead of me getting their bagels sliced, toasted (even requesting well done) etc. I asked them to have the bagels simply sliced and they refused saying they're "too busy". This happened on my last two visits. Both times I was there with my kids. It's not an easy pull to swallow, especially having your kids experience differential treatment. Bagels are just okay. Nothing special. Not to mention I am done with this place and wouldn't mind if they go away from the neighborhood. Make space for better, more decent people. read more

I was not disappointed, but heartened and hubristically self satisfied. The everything flat was perfectly crunchy and expertly seeded. Love the mini bagels, the early hours, the sourdough bagels, and the amazing and perfectly peppered and salted chopped egg salad with the yolk integrated into the mayo. It's available in pre-prepped 1/2lb containers in one of the refrigerators and sometimes I feel like I'm playing with fire as I dig through the stacks of salad because they're not dated, and sure I could ask, but I tend to avoid all human contact if possible at this point #corona #introvert. But also, I prefer to live life on the edge. Wink wink smile. I'd say this place is worth a visit for the wgg salad alone. Onto the bagels; they are gigantic and doughy but still airy inside. They gave a criapy exterior and are generously covered in seeds on both side. They also have blueberry, rainbow, cinnamon raisin, pumpernickel and a recent edition of sourdough! To my knowledge, it's the only local bagel place offering sourdough bagels. Their scallion and regular cream cheese are A ok. They carry a wide variety of sodas; diet and regular, flavored water, flavored seltzer, juice, and canned cold brew coffee and unsweetened and sweetened teas. Theyre pretty generous with their shmears but I'm a "would you like some bagel with your cream cheese kind of gal" so I buy them separately and apply myself at home. Only gripe with this place: I have found, on three separate occasions, a hair baked into a bagel. Eeeeeek. Ugghhh. But! I like this place that much that I've thrown out said bagels and moved on. Bagels are good but I bought 6 muffins and they were stale. They were individually wrapped in tight plastic and obviously from Costco where they are 50cents each. Waste of like $18. Should have returned. Watch the guy at the cutting board, they sweep all the fallen seeds etc with a little whisk broom from the counter into a clear plastic container to be used for everything bagel. Yum yum. Last time I was there my bill came out to $10.01. I gave the lady a $20. bill and she gave me $9.99 cents back. I cracked up laughing as did the people behind me in line. I've been a customer for several years. First off, their bagel recipe is the best I've had in Westchester. The bagels are chewy, flavorful and the toppings are generous. Now.... that said. During the pandemic, they raised their prices to $1.50 a bagel, which was a bit more than the average. When I went in there today, the bagels were $1.75 !! I understand inflation etc, but a nearly 40% price increase in a year is excessive. I love their bagels, and now will shop there less frequently because of the cost. I ordered an everything bagel and asked the lady to toast it but she didn't seem to hear me when she started smearing spread on it but did correct it (but she made me wait...while she helped the guests after us. I have picked up breakfast from this place MANY times being that it is walking distance from my house. I always order a toasted bagel with scallion cream cheese, lettuce and tomato. Out of the 20 or so times I've ordered this, maybe only 4 times has the order been right. It doesn't matter if this place is empty or packed, it is always wrong. Today I ordered my usual, and asked for the bagel to be toasted well done. My husband came home with the bagels and mine looked like they didn't even toast it. Really annoying. Loooooooove their bagels, especially the Black Russian bagels. I have ordered from them many, many times, and each time they are courteous and always get the order right, whether I order 6 or 6 dozen bagels. They also have delicious flagels in assorted flavors, bagel sticks, bagel pretzels and my favorite, bagel bites. Without asking, they know to put the onion and everything bagels in a separate bag from the others, which many bagel shops only do upon request. I have to admit, when I first walked in and found an Oriental gentleman behind the counter of a bagel place in Scarsdale I was a bit hesitant. I had kind of expected an elderly Jewish couple. Nevertheless, I know the qulaity of Bagel Power from others bringing home their awesome bagels, and I did see a sign that the establishment was run under rabbinical supervision.
