I finally got around to checking out Bagel Grove on my way to work this morning! They had a lot of great bagel options and some unique flavors! I went for an egg and cheese sandwich on an Asiago bagel and thought it was good! They have some cute merch, too! The place itself is small, and I was hoping there would be some tables I could sit and eat but it's more of a quick pick up type of place. I recommend Bagel Grove for a decent bagel the next time you're passing by! read more

This is a Utica institution and has been around for many years. Haven't been in a while but was in the area and thought I would stop in for a bagel. While the selection wasn't great as I forgot it was the Friday before the boilermaker was able to pick up some bagels and try some new flavors. The new flavors did not disappoint. Would highly recommend. Only downside as they had me pay up front for the number of bagels and cream cheese and probably would have chose different cream cheese had I know the bagels I wanted were not available. This place used to be amazing. Don't know what happened. Nova spread tastes like they just put pickled white herring fish juice in it there were NO pieces of salmon in it. Pretty big disappointment. It's a very fun and quirky joint with lots of action figures to check out while you wait for your order. I had the French toast bagel with honey and walnut cream cheese, it was good. The cream cheese was super fluffy and they were so generous with it! Which is what I loved! The pick up window had a cute little greeter and there was a small area if you wanted to stand at a tall table and eat. We went back a few times that trip. read more

Came here while I was in town for a conference a couple years ago. The place is super cute, the sandwiches are inexpensive, and the bagels are excellent. I don't know that I would go out of my way to get a breakfast sandwich here because both the egg and bacon served are patties, but I guess you get what you pay for somewhat because like I said the sandwiches are inexpensive. I myself used to live in Utica, New York where they had the best bagels in town, which was Bagel Grove where everyone would go to however times have changed. I have moved away. Been gone for 10 years now and I came back to try Bagel Grove and I have to say it is a shame that the bagels are the way they are first of all. They are very small for the price. Secondly, I ended up getting bagels for my family and all of our bagels were rockhard the customer service skills were not that great. It seems like nobody wanted to have a good ambience around us to make us feel wanted or satisfied with our purchase. Local flavor, great bagels and good prices; that's pretty much all you need. I like to go here on fridays when I don't have a work lunch. You can still get an egg and cheese (plus fixins) bagel sandwich for less than 5 bucks. The bagels have good bite, nice skin, but not over toasted and the whole sandwich is finely buttered. I have had the classic bagel with cream cheese and its good but the fixins are why you go to a bagel shop and don't just buy bagels from the store. Plus this is a local small business. typically you expect to pay more for local flavor but they have it in droves for a discount. Also fun the McDonalds next door aggressively has on their sign "Now serving bagels." May have changed since writing this but once it was excellent. read more

Bagel Grove, I want to like you, and yet every time I come here I'm disappointed. The employees are very nice and friendly, but for some reason it's impossible to get peanut butter and jelly on a bagel. I opened the bag today only to find a naked bagel with three packets of peanut butter on the side and a plastic knife. The four previous times I've tried to get a PB&J on a bagel, I've ended up with peanut butter on my bagel with a messy paper cup of jelly wrapped in tinfoil on the side. Sticky, and not ideal for a bagel sandwich on the go. Are you kidding? Seriously, if you can't put peanut butter on my bagel because of allergy contamination, why wasn't it mentioned when I ordered? Why do I have to literally assemble my own bagel sandwich? Believe me, I realize I sound like a crazy person, but what it boils down to is a lack of basic customer service. I love me some Bagel Grove. My go to is a scromelette, which is a scrambled egg with cheese, pepperoni chunks and some parsley all mixed in. Situated between the bagel of the day, you can't go wrong for $3.25. They also have HUGE excellent sandwiches, which are stuffed to the brim. It's really a meal for two people, not one. Sprouts are available year round! Personally, I'm not a fan of their cream cheeses - they're too whipped for my taste - but they do have a large variety. I also really enjoy their politics - they offer fair trade coffees, support other local businesses/nonprofits, encourage breastfeeding in the restaurant for nursing moms (if you so choose, no shame), and are a pickup spot for a local CSA. There are high chairs and plenty of seating, but it does get packed on weekends with a mix of college students, the after church crowd, and regulars that come in for coffee and breakfast. read more

I'm always at odds with myself - do I get sweet like sesame bagel with cannoli cream cheese or savory like onion bagel with veggie cream cheese? No matter what I decide, I'm never disappointed! The best thing about Bagel Grove is not their bagels but their VARIETY OF CREAM CHEESES. Their honey raisin cream cheese is literally bomb. Sorry to dis their actual bagels but if you've ever had a real Brooklyn bagel than you will know why bagel grove just doesn't compare. The bagels here are actually tiny. A Utica staple, the Bagel Grove proves that if your product is good enough, nothing else matters. The Bagel Grove is home to delicious, hand crafted artisan bagels baked with apathy and disdain by soulless bakers. And they're my favorite! Nothing else beats the great variety, crunchy crust and soft, chewy insides of these freshly baked masterpieces. Every other review claiming that these are "small" is written by a big fat fuck. These are, by weight, the same size and density of your standard shitty bagel. You just want to eat two because they're so good, you big fat fucks. As a testament to exactly how delicious these bagels are, the Bagel Grove is otherwise staffed and operated as what I can only describe as a "clusterfuck of fucking fuck." From the moment you walk in you are standing in a pile of people, all of whom are equally confused and unsure of exactly what the fuck is happening. There are two very similar looking counters and just like Jennifer Connelly in the Labyrinth you'd better choose carefully. One leads towards the castle and the other brings you back to the beginning. There is no logic or reason to how the service works at the Bagel Grove. It's total anarchy carefully managed by the kind people of Utica allowing each other to take turns. There are no lines just herds. A voice rings out from behind the counter with all the enthusiasm of someone desperately hoping that today is the day they go out on disability due to a terrible toaster oven incident, "Can I help who's next?" That's it. Leave it up to us to figure out who that could possibly be. The crowd murmurs as each individual tries to ascertain who the fuck could possibly be next. "I think you were here first," one kind Utican says to another. "No, I'm just waiting to pay." "Ma'am I believe you were before me," you'll hear another gentleman say. "No, I'm just waiting to pick up my order." That's right. There is a crowd waiting to order, a mob waiting to pay, and a horde waiting to pick up. All at the same counter. Why? Because fuck you our bagels are delicious, that's why. Once you solve the mystery of "Can I help who's next?" it's time to order. I will sometimes order exactly what I want as a goof. The truth is you can literally order anything on the menu, too, because it's going to be wrong. Not just regular wrong, either. Like hilariously wrong. I once ordered a bagel with cream cheese and got Bugels, with green cheese. It was fucking delicious. That's the thing. It's so good here it doesn't matter. Plus, if you love your children you'll want to get home to them. Standing in three more lines to correct an order fuck up is not viable. You'll eat the wrong bagel sandwich and you'll fucking love it. There is some good news. They've recently installed a brand new iPad point of sale system so that the employees have a way to play Candy Crush while fucking up your order. So you've ordered a random item menu in hopes that you might actually get the thing you want and now it's time to pay, right? Wrong. Now it's time to stand in a massive cluster of people with a handful of money in one hand and a scolding hot cup of coffee in the other. If you're lucky you'll have a nice view of a taut Utica College sorority girl in her pajamas for the next 17 minutes. How long does it take to get your food at the Bagel Grove? Imagine you're standing in the bread line in Russia for 12 hours in the freezing cold and when you finally get to the front of the line they tell you to "go stand over there" for another 6 hours while your bread is being prepared then when you finally get your bread it's a pack of batteries instead. Here is a short list of things that are quicker than getting your order at Bagel Grove: - A game of Monopoly with the blind and visually impaired. - Completing a transaction at the DMV when you've mistakenly filled out the wrong paperwork. - Preparing a complete Thanksgiving Day feast. - The average life expectancy of a dog. - A round trip flight from Sydney Australia to Dallas/Fort Worth. - A baseball game with a temporary rain delay. - Awaiting news of discovery from the Santa Maria. It takes a while to get your food, is what I'm trying to say. While you can drive-thru Dunkin Donuts and get 6 sandwiches, hash browns, and 4 coffees in about 60 seconds if you placed that same order at Bagel Grove you'd be dead before it was ready. At which time one of their ultra-competent employees, rather than call a paramedic, would just set the greasy bag filled with the wrong order on your corpse and the aroma would bring you back to life. Bagel grove is in a great location, right in a major road, so it's easy pick up a bite to eat on the go. The ordering line moves very fast and the menu is easy to read behind the counter. There is a wide variety of cream cheeses and bagels to choose from when ordering your meal or to buy in bulk. There is a sitting area beyond the ordering area with a pretty painted mural on the back wall. I would definitely suggest this place for a quick bite to eat during lunch. read more

The bagels and the selection here are great. Very reasonably priced as two breakfast sandwiches can run you a mere $7.00. My personal favorite is the spicy everything bagel. They also hook you up with 14 bagels when you purchase a dozen. It's a very popular stop among the community. It can get busy and a single order can take up to 15 minutes but its always worth the wait. The location is pretty convienent if you are a college student at UC as its right down the street. I have experienced a few instances where my order was messed up where each time, I had ordered by phone. I stopped ordering by phone, problem solved. The staff is hit or miss- some are nice, while some come off as rude. But bagels and the in house cream cheeses are awesome. Definitely a local favorite. read more

Stopped with a friend for a late breakfast and it was so ridiculous we didn't know if we should laugh or be mad. My total was $5.09 and I handed her a $10 bill. The woman taking my payment sighed loudly at me, rolled her eyes and started digging pennies out of the leave-a-penny dish to make the 9 cents. I apologized and got a dime from my wallet and tried to hand it to her but snapped "It's fine!" at me and continued to count pennies out. I laughed and dropped my dime in their dish said thank you and moved on. My friend and I both made simple orders. I asked for an onion bagel toasted with plain cream cheese, my friend a plain bagel with feta cheese, a tomato slice and mayo. We sat at a table and waited and waited and waited while people who entered after us were brought their orders. My friend finally went to the counter to ask about our orders. She did not ask in a rude or upset manner. She asked "Excuse me. Is there an order for "our names" coming up soon? We've been waiting close to 20 minutes." The woman told her "It's obviously busy in here. *gestured around the 1/2 empty room* We'll bring it when it's ready you don't need to ask." So we continued to wait and 10 minutes later they brought MY order of just a bagel toasted w/ cream cheese which for some reason took just under 30 minutes to prepare. I ordered toasted onion, I received a plain, untoasted bagel. My friend's order came out 2 minutes later missing the mayo. My friend urged me to complain that my order was wrong but I chose not to wait another 30 mins for a correction. She asked for mayo and noted to them that it was left off her order and they argued with her that she didn't ask for mayo, which she did. I heard her ask what kinds they had and then ordered what she liked. The bagels themselves were dry and flavorless with the rudeness of the staff leaving a bad aftertaste.
