Being a bagel connoisseur of sorts, I try to make it an effort to check out one local bagel shop on trips. Bagel fair was the shop I chose. Their store was beautiful with a glass display to show off its bagels. And staff were helpful and quick to fill orders. Their menu was simple with a large variety of bagels to choose from. I opted for a poppy seed bagel, made into a salmon lox sandwich. The bagel itself had a nice chew, was properly seeded and toasted perfectly. Shmeared with a good amount of cream cheese, just enough capers, sliced red onion and salmon lox (nova). I would definitely order again. My bestie had a garlic bagel with egg sandwich. Simple but filling. The bagel had a good taste of garlic without being too overpowering. Kuddos to Bagel Fair, you make a good bagel.

An Indianapolis institution. I've been coming to Bagel Fair for years and have never been disappointed! Best bagels in Indy! If you go on the weekends, there will be a line but it moves very quickly. Highly recommend!

How things have changed since 2012! New location (same strip mall) and credit cards now accepted. Still hot, fresh bagels that smell and taste amazing. Still no toaster because the bagels are perfect as is. Get here early because when they're sold out, they close for the day.

The shop is super cute, the vibe was on point, and everyone--from the staff to the customers--was incredibly friendly. There was a short line, but it moved really quickly. I ordered the turkey bagel on a jalapeño cheddar bagel, a blueberry bagel with strawberry matcha smear, and a mocha vanilla latte. When my daughter saw the blueberry bagel with the green matcha smear, she wanted no parts of it! I think the color threw her off, but the flavor was phenomenal... so I ended up eating her bagel instead, lol. The turkey bagel was really good and fresh. The jalapeño cheddar bagel was soft and paired perfectly with the turkey. At first, I didn't like the latte, but after a quick stir, it came to life and was delicious! I'm definitely ordering all three again and can't wait to come back.

If you're in a rush, definitely order online, as we saw plenty of people picking up while we were in line. Bearded Bagel is a wonderful bagel place off of E 96th St. that makes their own bagels and provides breakfast sandwiches. When I arrived and walked into the bagel shop, I noticed the menu on the wall right away, and a casual, but bland, ambiance where people can sit to relax and socialize. The woman behind the counter greeted me with a smile and asked for my order. I took a few minutes to study the menu, and decided to go with the Doctor T's Sandwich for breakfast which is egg, American cheese, and Turkey sausage on a plain bagel. I also picked up a 1/2 dozen bagels for the week and tried the assorted flavors: asiago, blueberry, jalapeno, jalapeno cheddar, cran cinnamon, and everything. I did get an iced latte with almond milk for my beverage. The beverage was wonderful and refreshing. It was what I needed to pick me up in the morning. The Doctor T's sandwich was Ok and tasted good. The turkey sausage and egg combination was a perfect fit, but will see if I can get it on a Jalapeno cheddar bagel next time, because that would make it even better. The bagels are always top notch and first class. The jalapeno cheddar bagel and jalapeno bagel are my favorite. The cran cinnamon bagel is always good. Bearded Bagel is a wonderful bagel place in Indy, and the fact that thet have another location opening up very soon off of 79th Street makes me very happy because I can go somewhere else to get their bagels. I'm very glad I stopped by at Bearded Bagel for breakfast because now I can say I have been here, and it is worth the price and time for the bagels and breakfast sandwiches. You will see me here again for sure.

This location has a lot of shelf-stable import Italian foods available for purchase, alongside fresh fruits and dairy products from local farms. Counter service for coffee is pretty quick for a mid-afternoon visit. I got the Neapolitan rose latte from the March spring specials. It was kind of expensive ($8 for 16 oz) but very delicious. It was a floral kind of sweet with the addition of a hint of rose. The pink foam colored with strawberry and beet powders adds to the overall cutesy effect! I also got a cocoa brownie ($2.50, about a 3-inch square) and that is surely chocolatey. I didn't find it to be too sweet but it doesn't lack in that department either. They use a Dutch process cocoa in their brownie to give it that signature dark color. Flavor wise, I can best describe it as an Oreo Cakester without the cream filling. Anyway, if you ever see me walking around the Stutz, you'll likely find me with an Amelia's coffee in hand as well!

The space is big and fun, with a large dining room, an old-school video arcade game, interesting art, and a big screen playing movies, which adds to the laid-back, quirky vibe. It's counter service with clear menu boards on the wall, making ordering easy. I had the cheesy jalapeño grits with bacon and an egg and... my goodness. So incredibly delicious. One friend ordered the same grits but swapped in fried catfish instead of bacon--also a fantastic choice. Our third went with a classic plate with eggs and bacon, and let me tell you, the bacon is thick and plentiful. We ordered a side of fries for the table and there were more than enough to share. Self-serve coffee with all the fixings is a nice touch, and the service was friendly and welcoming. Fun atmosphere, great food, solid portions--definitely will be back.

We were greeted right away and looked over the menu a bit before ordering. My husband ordered the country breakfast with chicken (definitely the way to go) and I ordered the cheesy jalapeño grits with bacon. We each got a cup for water and I ordered a coffee, excited because I saw ahead of going that it was self-serve (like at Cafe Patachou where I can get as many coffees as I like without having to wait for our server to come check on us first). However, the self serve coffee excitement was short-lived after seeing that they only offered half and half as creamer (I'm lactose intolerant) and the two coffee carafes were not labeled for what was inside (decaf? medium roast? you'll never know!) and then one was completely empty and never refilled during our visit. The water station also was not ever refilled during our visit, so we were not able to get refills after filling up our cups the first time. It took a couple of tries to find a table we could sit at because you seat yourself, but several had not been cleaned after other guests left and had food and drinks spilled on them. There were definitely enough staff members there to be able to clean them in between customers, so we weren't sure why they were left that way. We ended up sitting in the middle of the room towards the front, across from the clown art wall, which made for interesting conversation as we looked through everything. When the food came out I was impressed with the portions, but I had no flavor whatsoever to my cheesy jalepeno grits. The egg and bacon were good, but not enough to make it a good dish and I would not order it again. And I love savory breakfast and grits in general, so it was a real bummer. My husband's dish was worth the visit though. It was a huge portion size and we honestly would just split it if we came back and ordered it. It was so savory, seasoned perfectly, and juicy. One of the best breakfast dishes I have tried recently! I really debated between 3-4 stars for this, but my dish was a flop, the lack of cleanliness for the seating area, the lackluster self-serve coffee station, and not refilling the beverages ultimately scored a 3 star review for me. I would come back and try something else though, or split the country chicken breakfast because it was really good. Hopefully next time the beverages won't be empty!
