They stated that they dhow the rug to the customer. I fid look at the rug at the store but didn't notice it until I got home and unrolled the rug. I have 3 handmade rugs I bought when I was working at an Oriental rug store. Because of my experience at the store I was aware of how a handmade rug should be cleaned. I took my rugs to Bagdad because I saw on the website how they clean rugs even though they were more expensive than others. When I dropped them off I was told they would be ready in 3 weeks. After 3 weeks I called and asked if they were ready to be picked up. I didn't get a call back which was concerning. I called again and said if they had not been cleaned I didn't want them cleaned now since I was ready to move out of state. This time a lady called me and said they were clean and just needed the fringes tended to. I was told I could pick them up the next day. When I picked them up the rugs were loaded in my car but when I touched one of the loaded rugs it felt damp. I unrolled all the rugs to continue drying and noticed they have a significant smell and my hands had a slick feel after handling them. I had the sense they weren't rinsed completely or they had been sprayed with something so they would smell cleaner. Also, when I picked them up one of the rugs looked darker than I remembered it. This could also be attributed to the fact that the rug was still damp. My belief is that when I called to pick up the rugs after three weeks they had not been cleaned. They did some fast treatment to the rugs so they would seem clean without getting the full service I paid for. read more

After the cleaning, it was discovered that there had been artificial dies added over the years to conceal color bleed on the white parts of the rug. I have a gorgeous handmade Indian rug that had gotten destroyed by dog urine and had been in storage for many years. I really didn't think it could be restored but thought I would try. They brought it back to its former glory- I was THRILLED. It wasn't cheap- $350 to clean a 9 ft round rug, plus about $700 in various patches, a new band, and other repairs. However, it was money very well spent- the rug looks brand new and it's a family heirloom so it's very special to me. The staff was extremely professional and explained in detail the work being done. During the past few years, I had been looking to just replace the rug, but didn't see anything I liked. After discovering my dog had been using my beautiful oriental rug as a pee pad (bad dog!), I called a few friends asking where they take their rugs to be cleaned. Nary a one had any idea so I searched on Yelp and didn't find anything either. That left me researching online, ugh. I stumbled upon Bagdad's website and the first thing to pop up is a taped example of their rug/carpet cleaning. From start to finish you can view their process while listening to an instrumental version of "Don't Cry for me Argentina" (which is one of my favorite songs). Well hell, that cinched the deal! I called and spoke with Flora Akbari. Very nice and personable, she gave me a quick quote and invited me to their showroom. After wrapping my rug in about 10 trash bags, I headed over. Bagdad Oriental Rugs is located off of Westheimer between Augusta & Fountainview. Very easy to miss, this place is next door to Nazar's. Limited parking in front of the store, one row of slots in front of the door meant leaving would have me backing my car onto Westheimer. The showroom is large and loaded with beautiful carpets and rugs of all sizes. Towards the back is a seating area, office and two large tables where the repair work is done. Flora greeted me warmly while someone from the back came out and started unwrapping the rug. "Uh, you may not want to do that. It really stinks" I said. "No worries, we get this all of the time" replied Flora. After taking quick measurements, I was quoted around $80. What a deal! Signed a form and I was out of there within 15 minutes. A week later I received a call advising me that my rug was ready to pick up. I was warmly greeted by a gentleman. I gave him my paperwork and voila my rug appeared. They rolled it out and it was freakin' beautiful! No stains, no smell. I paid and again was out of the store within 15 minutes. I was advised if I referred anyone that they will give me a discount off of my next cleaning. So, if you go to this wonderful place, tell them I sent you. :o) read more

We have been in Houston over 25 years and have tried most of the major oriental rug cleaners over the years. Acting on Yelp recommendations, we tried Bagdad this year. Indeed, the customer service was top notch, friendly and responsive. More importantly, our rugs came back cleaner and brighter than they EVER have before. One particular rug had old dog stains and odor that our new dog could apparently sense, despite earlier cleanings. That rug is now like new! I've been putting off getting my rugs cleaned because they're both very large. I went inside and spoke with Paradise and I had two gentlemen help me get my rugs out of my car. I was concerned about the smaller one because it also needed some repairs and it was a sentimental rug given to me by my father and I didn't want anything to happen to it. Paradise was very kind and reassured me that their rug-repairing ladies have many years of experience. The whole process was very quick and I was out the door and on my way in no time. About a week or so after, I got a call that my rugs were ready. There's a very nice seating area with water and some cookies where you can sit and relax while they get your rug from the back. Everything in the store is very neat and clean and the staff are very friendly. I'm glad I worried for nothing because my smaller rug was seamlessly repaired and both look brand new! I took my precious antique Persian Heriz rug here to be repaired. First I got a price quote by emailing a photo of the hole. It's nice that this shop is responsive to emails. I took the rug to another shop and they wanted 4 times the amount to repair the hole but for me they'd just charge me double. I beat feet out of there and went to Bagdad and I'm glad I did. There were 3 female artisans doing repair work right there in the store. The repair was so perfect, it was hard to tell where the hole used to be. And it was done sooner than they promised. They even washed the rug for no extra charge. They have a real rug washing machine, too, unlike the other stores that charge you $500 to hose your rug down in their back parking lot. I think they did a good job cleaning and they are all very nice people. The guys who picked up and delivered the rug are awesome (my rug was under a heavy king-size bed). However, I would warn you about the upselling. I was expecting a two hundred something dollar bill and it cost be over $500. I bought a 'comfort' pad which I thought would be a solid plush piece of foam and looked just like what I bought before at Home Depot. When I complained they did say it's made out of something better than the Home Depot pads but I still can't believe it's worth $132. I spilled coke on a $1,000 cream colored wool rug from pottery barn. I tried to add several items to the stain to absorb the liquid in order to save the rug. I ended up making everything worse and this turned into a disaster. The rug became a sticky mushy dark mess and I started shopping for a new rug to replace the exact same model. I could not find this unique rug anywhere. The worst part is that it wasn't my rug, I was really in trouble. I found Bagdad by searching yelp/Internet and I read the only one review someone had written. I trusted that review and I called them up. I spoke to Iman and he was extremely helpful, knowledgable, friendly, and accommodating. Bagdad picked up my rug within a couple of days which costs ($25 each way). They picked up, cleaned, called, all on time, and delivered on all their promises. Excellent communication, and they saved the rug! I couldn't believe what they accomplished. It was a miracle. For $120+ delivery + tax, I was extremely satisfied to save the $1,000 rug for that amount of money. I would recommend this place to anyone! We had a fire at our house and there was a lot of smoke damage. Gunns Restoration said they could clean our antique handknotted Turkish rugs we bought in Marmaris, Turkey. They were over 100 years old. They took the carpets to Bagdad Oriental Rugs. We spent 4 hours picking through old carpets to find one that had not been damaged or repaired. They were worn in two spots, but we knew everything about them. We paid 5000 euros for the pair. When they were returned by Gunns, the carpets would not lay flat; they had breaks in the edge of the carpet. Upon inspection, we found they had been cut and then repaired. Also, the carpet was covered with white spots. I complained to Gunns and they said they would meet me at Bagdad. When I got there, the manager denied any damage was done. He took me back to show me how they cleaned carpets. You would be shocked. They have a shallow pool they fill with about 1" of water and lay the carpets in it. They pour laundry detergent in and take a rotating floor buffer with a brush head and grind the carpets with that. Soap suds fill the pool. They take the carpet out and run it through two large rolling pins and hang it up to dry. The pins have gears and teeth that would have accounted for the damage. Nevertheless, the manager denied it and Gunns would not compensate me for the damage. Do not believe any of these other posts; they are most likely shill comments. Do not take anything to Bagdad unless you don't care how it will look afterwards. My carpets were rich in color and beautiful, now they are faded and spotted with repaired tears; worth about 1/4 of what I paid for them. read more

I've taken 3 different rugs to Bagdad and they have impressed every time. They were able to completely get the stains out, and the smell. They have a really cool machine in the back that they clean the rugs with. I think it is the only one of its kind in Houston. Oh and they are always on time and charge what they quote you before they start cleaning your rug. read more

I have a beautiful rug I purchased in Singapore with the most beautiful medallion - the colors WERE vivid blue and reds with a cream background. Sadly I left my two small dogs with a pet sitter and on my return noticed several little pee stains. The rest of the carpet was immaculate. I took my rug to Bagdad Oriental Rugs and told 'no problem' this is what they specialize in ..... well $500 I picked up my rug and nearly died. Every color had ran!!! The owner was rude and abusive and thought nothing of all the color run??? Finally his wife stepped in and told him to calm down and she would make sure it was perfect if I left it with them again. I did, but this time every color is pale and washed out. No vivid colors no cream just dull dirty looking cream .... even where they removed the dog urine is still darker than anywhere else on the rug. Every time I walk past it (12 x 15) I could burst into tears. I am considering suing this company as my rug is worth several thousands. I just wish I had never stepped into this store. Please think twice before you take your rug to Bagdad Oriental Rugs. If anyone reading this is serious about their rug and wants only the best contact me and I will let you view my rug! Enthusiastically rating this business. Whether wool, silk, synthetic, hand knotted or machine loomed, BOR will clean your rug expertly and make it look like new. They will be happy to show you their rug cleaning facilities, it is interesting. They will also be VERY CLEAR about the possible outcome of the cleaning, so it's not like they'll promise you the moon, only to be disappointed upon receipt. They also do amazing restoration work, such as replacing fringe, reweaving holes made by burns, insects, pets, etc., and replacing/repairing rug backing. I was flooded in Hurricane Harvey and called Baghdad Oriental Rugs to clean my water soaked Oriental rugs. I was in Colorado at the time, so my neighbors let the Baghdad representative in to collect my eight rugs. I asked the Baghdad representative on the phone if he felt the rugs could be cleaned successfully, given their flooded condition. He assured me that they could.. A month later I was called to go look at the rugs that had been cleaned. Two of the eight rugs were fine, but the other six were still horribly discolored, both by water damage and dye run. Some of the rugs still smelled musty too and honestly didn't even look as if they've been cleaned. I was offered the opportunity to spend thousands of dollars more to buy new rugs or have the original rugs color restored. I felt the color restoration was throwing good money after bad, given how bad the rags still looked. Baghdad still charged me the full $3200 for the rug cleaning. I felt very deceived by Baghdad Oriental rugs which should've told me upfront that it was unlikely that my rugs would come out OK after cleaning. Either that, or they should've at least offered me a 50% discount or more when most of the rugs came out so badly after being washed. I understand that Baghdad took in thousands of rugs after the flood. Perhaps with the volume of rugs they took in, many were sitting for days or weeks without being cleaned. Regardless of the reason, I am very unhappy and feel cheated. I am certain that I won't be the last person complaining about this. read more
