    I was looking for a big breakfast in Sydney but most offered the standard with too much bread. Then I came across Baffi & Mo big brekky & not only was it big, it was delicious! I'm very much a Bacon & egg kinda guy but the frittata blew my mind! Without a doubt, this is Sydney's best big brekky!!

    Been coming here on and off since I user to live in Surry Hills a few years ago. I went again today, and it's still very good. The coffee is great (can't recall the beans they use), and the food is even better. The big breakfast is the most expensive I've had ($25!) but it could easily be shared between two (or three) people, so the value for money is there; It came with a big pile of bacon, a whole (fried) tomato, a couple of (delicious) breakfast sausages, a (huge) hash brown, toast, bread, and some eggs. I'll be getting it again. I couldn't eat anything else after all that, but cakes they had on display had me sorely tempted (cue restaurant scene from Monty Python's The Meaning of Life).

    Baffi and Mo is now included in my list of Top 5 Brunches in Sydney. I went in with no expectations and left with a belly full of amazing goodness. The gentrification of the Redfern area is good news if it means that more places like Baffi and Mo will pop up. Everything in this little restaurant seems haphazardly put together, from the mismatched furniture to the intense wallpaper. An open kitchen adds to the cozy neighborhood feel of the restaurant, which attracts a variety of clientel. The fresh cut flowers are also a nice touch. On the menu, you'll see a decent selection of brunch plates. You have your muesli, yogurt, and eggs, but what you should really get are the heartier selections below. The potato hash with ham, avocado, tomato and asparagus topped with a poached egg is purportedly the most famous on the menu. Feeling like having more of a lunchy brunch, I opted for the Wagyu beef and bean stew, topped with a poached egg and accompanied by loads of buttery bread. I cannot even begin to tell you how tender the beef was, which contrasted beautifully with the thick bite of the beans. As I sliced the egg, I could see that it was faultlessly poached. Overall, brunch at Baffi and Mo was fantastic, and my meal, including a cappuccino, set me back a mere $18.

    I'd long been hearing about the food at this popular Redfern café, famous for their all day breakfasts and Single Origin coffee. I stopped by late morning - being in the no man'sland between breakfast and lunch, I went for a meal that felt suitably brunch-worthy. My pea and corn fritters were topped with a rich homemade roast tomato sauce and a few strips of grilled haloumi, the saltiness of the cheese offsetting the sweetness of the veg nicely. As expected, the coffee was also very good. The staff were very attentive, but on this super hot day sitting inside was a bit unpleasant - all the hot air was kind of getting stuck inside the room, even though the massive bi-fold doors had been opened. I'll be headed for one of their outdoor tables under the massive awning on my next visit.

    Relaxed atmosphere for a group or couple. Came here couple weeks ago with large group and they were able to fit us in easily. The coffee is strong but good, much prefer strong coffee to weak! Food is fresh and on point. Service can be hit an miss from the visits I have had.

They've set up shop in a teeny tiny Lilliputian cottage in Kensington Lane in the new Central Park precinct. It backs onto Spice Alley and has light-filled interiors that are all white walls and light wood and it feel positively Scandinavian. Then there's the coffee. Good lord, man. It comes served in these custom cups, they're kind of grainy and glazed and feel like they've been hewn out of very light sandstone by some unnamed master craftsman who will die a nobody but be recognised posthumously as one of the finest artisans of this or any age, Van Gogh style. The barista had the obligatory mustache but boy, did this dude know what service felt like. Polite, friendly, charming, without being overbearing. Win stars out of five. Top class, thank you and goodnight.

The menu is seasonal and changes weekly, some samples include finely cut wagyu, crusted in dukkah and served on sourdough, honey-glazed bacon with fresh avocado, and mushrooms with ricotta. Almost everything comes served with sprinklings of sprouts and greens grown on the windowsill. The menu is small but there's almost always something for everyone; however, those looking for your classic big breakfast should come prepared to settle for something a little different. The quality of coffee is not entirely consistent, but the molasses-infused sugar makes up for it. I could eat a jar of it by itself. There's also a range of sandwiches on offer. A friend recently brought home lamb-shoulder on sourdough that had me drooling. I need to be strong, three visits in one day is just too much.

The small menu is on the spendier side, but it looked creative & wholesome. Bring a book or a notepad to write deep thoughts in.

Located next to Victoria Park and near Uni Row, I was surprised to have found this gem that the locals get to enjoy everyday. Walking in, a barista takes your order for takeaway and has you standing behind them as they make your order. There is plenty of seating inside, but those are reserved for those dining in. They have their roastery in the back, with large windows separating from the cafe. We had visited twice here and each time was a great experience. I had the opportunity to try both their Ethiopian and their Guatemalan long blacks, and the tasting notes do stand out. They have a variety of coffee beans you can purchase, along with a more limited selection of teas. Toby's Estate is a must try for all coffee aficionados in the area.

He's funny at best, though I might warn you not to sit too close to the kitchen unless you want to overhear a colorful monologue of cynicism and crude jokes. Some winning items on the menu include the "Big Salad" which changes daily and can include a delicious mixture of pumpkin, cous cous, eggplant, walnuts, raisins, and any other odds and ends the chef decides to add on the day. I recommend ordering it with poached chicken, which is as tender as can be. Another popular item is the BLT, served on Turkish bread. Careful though, it's big enough to feed your entire family of seven. If you can appreciate a good chip (or 2 dozen), Bar Mattino's are hand cut and fried to perfection. Lastly, I would highly and enthusiastically recommend the house made brownie, for which I solely blame the gain of 3 kilos. It's chocoloatey, and melty, and powered sugary and just ALL good.
