I took ski jump lessons with my brother, and it was really fun, the instructors are very nice and let you go at your own pace. They also have Nordic (cross country skiing), Alpine (downhill skiing), ski jumping, and even races! But this place isn't just for skiers. They've got mountain biking, and even a shooting range! Everyone is very welcoming here. They have lessons for everything and everyone, at any skill level. If you come here for skiing, remember to bring some leather gloves for the tow ropes. I recommend you try it out! The BlackHawk ski club is a very good place, and I look forward to trying some of their other activities this summer!

The park consists of a wooded area laced with crisscrossing dirt mountain biking trails. Get ready to bust a glute because the hills here are steep! But the pooches will have fun; they love getting to charge up and down the gravel hills. The park seems to be seldom utilized; on several trips here we only ran into a pair of mountain bikers once and never any other other hikers/dogs. Don't look for official signage or a parking lot because you won't find it. There is plenty of street parking available on Steven's St. and there are random trail entrances along that side of the park.

Not only does he do excellent work for a very reasonable price, he's thorough and very honest when making an initial assessment of possible other work. For instance, he recognized that my Trek is quite a few years old so he measured its chain to see if it was still within a working range. It turns out mine was at the in between stage where it could be replaced if I wanted it to be like new, or could wait a bit. I wholeheartedly recommend Ian to work on anyone's bike, and I'll certainly reach out to him once again when he may be back in Scottsdale!

This is a great mountain biking trail system in Fitchburg. Right off Fitchrona, there's a decent…read moreparking lot to park your car/truck. The trailhead is just beyond the bathrooms. They have a fun selection of singletrack trails from beginner to the more advanced. The trails are nicely maintained and fun to ride. Cyclists are friendly and will let you pass if they're moving a little slower than you. This is a family trail system , with lots of levels of difficulty. Perfect for groups of people of different riding levels. The fall colors are just starting, so the trails are really pretty this time of year. Please keep it clean out there and ride only when it's dry. That helps keep the trail safe for riders out there. The little pond is really scenic when the sun is setting in the evening. There are lots of fun turns and some obstacles too. Watch the signs and have fun!

This park seems predominantly geared (pun not intended, I swear!) towards mountain bike riders but there are several loops that hikers can also enjoy. (Mountain bikers need a trail pass too, fyi. Daily or annual passes can be purchased on-site). We didn't come across too many other people while we were here, despite it being a gorgeous fall day. We did meet up with one dog off-leash running with a biker. Scrraaappppe!! (dragging out soapbox) Argh! I get it - for many people they think their dog is well-behaved so they don't need to be on a leash. Well, there are rules for a reason and when people disregard those and let their dog off-leash when they shouldn't, parks crack down & change rules to not allow dogs at all (um, look at most Madison parks as a prime example). People with "well-behaved dogs" forget that #1) other people may be afraid of dogs and your off-leash dog is especially scary to them and #2) other dogs you encounter may be dog-aggressive or leash-aggressive so if your dog runs up to them, oooh boy! ANYway, back to CamRock. This was a fine spot for hiking and I'd go back if I were in the area. However, if I were driving from Madison I would probably opt for Indian Lake over CamRock for a hiking trip. I would definitely like to go back to CamRock in the spring though for some mountain biking, those trails looked like fun!

Whenever we are in Galena, and the weather is nice, we like to kayak through Nuts Outdoors. It is…read morealways convenient, affordable, and an absolute blast! Also, it is one of the best ways to take-in the sights and beauty of Galena and the surrounding area! There are several options to chose from, including different lengths of time to rent, different styles and sizes of kayaks, and different routes. Not to mention the other equipment for outdoor adventures. There bike selection is outstanding! That being said, we always do the same thing: the 2-hour 9-11am single kayak trip. We also purchase the deal that starts right downtown Galena just down the street from Nuts Outdoors where the bridge crosses the Galena River. We love the convenience and the super-quick turnaround from store-front to water. Once you check-in at the store, you can walk or drive down to the dock, and the store worker meets you there with the boat, oars, and life-jacket (safety first)! There the staff person helps you into the boat and into the water. Just as a side note, the staff are always super friendly, helpful, and clearly experts. You are definitely in good hands. During our two hours, we paddle pretty consistently upstream for about an hour. We love the gorgeous views of the river banks, trees, and surrounding hills. We were SO LUCKY with the warm end-of-October weather last weekend that we were able to kayak and enjoy the fantastic fall colors! Wow! After the first hour, we like to kick-back, relax, have a drink, and float. We still need to paddle a little bit to make it back on time, but it is definitely relaxing. And so fun to take in the sights, sounds, and smells. Some highlights this time included blue jays, a whole bunch of cardinals, and the wind rustling the fall leaves. We've seen muskrats, large birds, and deer in the past! All this to say, if you're heading over to Galena and like outdoor adventures, don't miss out on a kayaking (or biking!) adventure with Nuts Outdoors!

Absolutely unacceptable experience at Nuts Outdoors…read more Our group rented E-bikes from Nuts Outdoors and were shocked by the complete disregard for participant safety. Staff made no effort to ensure bikes were the correct size for riders, and none of the seats were adjusted to proper height. Now I'm a reasonable person and I'm not expecting these guys to give each member of our group a professional bike fitting measuring knee lockout angles and such, but making sure they can reach the ground when stopping and are comfortable on a 50-60lb bike isn't asking for much. These are pretty basic safety measures you'd expect from any reputable rental service. Even worse, the brakes were wildly inconsistent: some bikes had hyper-sensitive brakes, while others had virtually none at all. It was a disaster waiting to happen. While I understand that, yes, we did sign liability waivers before participating. It should be noted that regardless of the liability waivers. It did not seem as though the staff had any interest in the ensuring the safety of the equipment being used by their patrons, which is completely unacceptable regardless of any waiver. One of our participants suffered a serious injury--a broken ankle--due to these unsafe conditions. When we contacted the business to request a refund for those of us who had to take a ride to the hospital and end the ride after about 30 minutes, we were met with hostility. The person on the phone berated us, used excessive profanity, and showed zero empathy or professionalism. Avoid this place at all costs. Safety and customer service are clearly not part of their business model.

Overall pretty easy terrain in my opinion and mostly flat with some small ups and downs. The trails dual as mountain bike trails so be on the lookout as you may need to step aside. I had to do this a free times but if it was busier it may be a bit of a distraction and impact your hike some.

Our friends live about 10 minutes from this park and recommended we check it out, so we stopped by…read moreafter visiting them. There's a huge rock formation that definitely catches your eye, but the path leading up to it isn't well paved. You'll need to navigate through some tall brush if you plan to climb up. I wouldn't suggest attempting it unless you have proper shoes and decent balance (or a good core!). We saw a few adventurous teenagers make the climb, though. Aside from that, there are several nearby trails that are much better maintained and perfect for a casual walk or light hike. Overall, it's a nice county park with plenty of parking spaces to explore, especially if you're in the area and want a bit of fresh air and nature.

Discovered this park while looking for a hiking spot after visiting Mt. Horeb. Only 6 minutes drive…read morefrom Mt. Horeb and what a great hidden gem. We parked at Pop's Knoll which has a gravel parking lot for about 20 vehicles. About 100 meters from the parking lot is an area with a covered shelter with picnic tables and a toilet room. What really surprised me about this park was how well the trails were maintained and marked with numbers so you have reference points to know where you are on the park map. Consists of multi-use trails for hikers and horseback riders, as well as hiking trails for pedestrians only. A good mix of trails through corn fields, wooded areas, and grassy paths along streams. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed at all times. I highly recommend.
