Hands down the best bbq place in SE Michigan. Believe me, I know. We've tried so many, and Bad Brad's is the one that consistently delivers. Our favorite app is the Pig Candy. Caramelized bacon that is sweet, salty and has a just enough spice to tie it all together. The right ratio of crispy to chewy... just like that perfect corner brownie. Honestly, it's enough to make me love the place right there, and we've only just begun! Af far as the main meal goes, you really can't go wrong. The sliced brisket, pulled pork, ribs (dry rubbed and spectacular) and pork sausage are the highest ranking amongst the people we've eaten here with. Our favorite sauce is their onsite made 3-2-1 sauce. I believe the ratio is 3 parts sweet, 2 parts spicy, 1 part sour = one amazing sauce. Delicious on all of the menu options and clearly deserving of its largest bottle on the table status. The sides are also a treat. The Mac and Cheese is the best we've had at any establishment. Gooey and cheesy with a crispy top served in a cast iron crock. My vegetarian sister has made it her meal with a piece of their awesome corn bread. Quite possibly a perfect meal all on its own! The corn bread runs a little on the sweet side, with a satisfyingly crispy top and chewy middle. Delicious. After those favs, we never have had extra room to explore other side dishes, never mind dessert. I love that the draft list features Michigan craft breweries, and that they have bottled Faygo pop on the menu. There is a descent amount of indoor seating and an outdoor patio, as well. Dinner for one! Had to get my fix and couldn't decide, so let's just order both! I went with the hammer pork sandwich and the entree 9oz of sliced brisket with the sides. Had the half beans/half potato salad and the chili. The brisket was great as usual. The half/half side was perfect, gave just enough of each. As for the sandwich, the hammer, which includes the pickles and coleslaw, is simply too messy. Ugh. It's great but I'll have to stick with the standard sammi. Also, don't forget to get your bacon pieces. You can get one for $1; sometimes the candy bacon is a little too much. As for service, it was great. This place has pretty much gone down hill over the years. The prices have raised but the quality of the food has gone down hill. My boyfriend and I split the pig candy as an appetizer since who doesn't love bacon?! The bacon is topped with sugar and spices. It's served cold and that was a turn off for me. When you bite into the bacon you get a cold burst of grease in your mouth and that was an even bigger turn off for me. I had the street tacos. Pretty awesome. Tons of flavor and veggies. It's pretty much a crispy corn tortilla inside of another crispy corn tortilla with your choice of meat (pulled chicken, brisket and pulled pork) and cheese and veggies. The spicy sour cream had a nice kick compared to other times. The meals just didn't seem as fresh and when they first opened this location. They don't make any items in house and you can definitely tell everything is reheated all the time. 321 sauce is still the way to go. Another thing I have noticed is they are pretty much always hiring. There is constantly at least one sign outside telling everyone they are hiring for cooks, waitstaff or dishwashers. Redeemed. After our last visit, my wife and I wanted to give Bad Brads another shot. We weren't disappointed, and had a great meal. The temperature was 85 degrees outside, but was much cooler inside of the restaurant. It was quite pleasant. I ordered the brisket and smoked sausage. Both were good. The brisket wasn't the best I've ever had, and was a bit on the drier side. I've never had actual smoked sausage before, and it was really good. My wife ordered the street tacos. It's an interesting concept where they bring out your choice of meats, and then 5 different toppings, and some tortillas. Then, you basically assemble your own tacos, sort of like you would if you ordered fajitas at a Mexican restaurant. They tasted good, but she said she probably wouldn't order it again. Not many people there , 15 min wait , people were walking away . Definitely under staffed . While our waitress was kind of (busy) she was super iunattentive , slow , had us wait & wait for everything . Drinks , food , check . Really didn't check on us , had to wave her down for a drink. I'm a Texas boy so bbq/soul food is a thing I grew up around and know well. I was skeptical about trying bbq from the north but hot damn I was pleasantly surprised! The brisket was perfectly done keeping the best parts of the fat that kept the flavor but didn't make the meat overly chewy! And the collard greens were slap my mama good! Oh Bad Brad how you surprised me! My usual date (daughter) and I visited this location on a whim. Upon arriving this place was packed the wait time for us was 30 minutes. We sat outside and watched the crowd of waiting hungry patrons grow larger! Our buzzer goes off and we are seated in a booth. A young man comes over to us and takes our drink order explaining our server will be right over. Great teamwork! My oh my, we weren't steered (haha) in the wrong direction! We got ribs, burnt ends and sliced brisket, sides Mac n Cheese, Corn bread and Potato salad. There were several sauces on the table my daughters favorite was 321 mine was not on the table but she suggested it and I loved it sweet mustard! The brisket was tender and full of smoky flavor! The burnt ends were covered in a different BBQ (not available on the table) that was very tasty although I would have loved to taste it without the special sauce. The ribs were good--could have been smoked a tad longer but still good! The Mac n Cheese was SO good! Cheesy, creamy and had the right amount of breadcrumbs on top to combine all the textures with every bite! Cornbread was fluffy, moist, and flavored by the bits of corn and red peppers inside. This was a great combination! I was tempted to order more! Potato salad had too much dill for my liking but it is how my kid loves it extra dill relish for her so this was her favorite. Even though this place was jam packed our server was attentive & remained friendly she never made us feel rushed. I'd wait just to get a table in her section next time. Having just moved here, I've tried to like this place, and gave it two chances after hearing about how great it is. I REALLY wanted to like it since it's not far from my new house and locals love it. Can't say I'm impressed. first time I ordered a carryout dinner, I ordered the crispy friend chicken dinner entree, and got pit beans and chili as sides. Or so I thought I did. I ended up getting grilled chicken breast instead in my box. By the time I called back, I'm guessing either it was closed or no one wanted to answer as it was closer to end of day. There is a grilled chicken breast entree on the menu but that is definitely not what I ordered. My chili was pretty much sauce/slop with melted cheese on top, no ingredients inside. I'm guessing I literally got what was left at the end of the day. Pit beans were impressive though. It's not a good sign when the side tastes better than the entree. My grilled chicken breasts were incredibly bland and even the side of BBQ sauce didn't do much about that. Ordered again today figuring it's a couple of hours before closing, can't be the same thing as before. My item ordered was called the "BBQ Platter". This sounds extravagant and large. Oddly enough it is neither. Keep in mind this is an $18 order as well, because it's brisket, I guess? My lonely 4 slices of brisket were flanked by two tortillas wrapped in foil. My side of "vegetables" was about half a cup of decent vegetables. Not good or bad. They were ok. The pit beans, which I looked forward to most, had about 2 pieces of meat in them, and covered in so much sauce and salt that they weren't edible..I was in disbelief of the varying range of quality in the dish from this time and last time. Brisket was good, but honestly not worth $18. Especially the lackluster portion I got.. Hats off to the staff though, they are typically friendly when you show up or call in an order. I liked how they served faygo. However, the jack and sour tasted like it was cheap sour with about a half shot of jack. The kids meal chicken tenders were good. The burger meat could have been seasoned a bit more but the good quality cheese was a nice touch. The fries had no salt on them or any seasoning at all, however our waitress had no issue bringing us salt and pepper. I did not order ribs because there was no price listed besides "market price", which I made the assumption that meant expensive or overpriced.The sauces at the table were super watery, especially the sour being the most thin consistency out of all the sauces. The sweet sauce is real sugary, and is in fact sweet and candy-like tasting. The spicy sauce is more of a tang. 321 is alright I just am not a fan of the watery consistency and my personal dislike for the sweet sauce. The table, menu, and table topper were also dirty. You can scrape the top of the table and get the grime off. This location also does not serve pizza. read more
