The hot dog was definitely boiled which kills the taste and the cheese sauce they use for sure comes out of a can. However, it was cheap and I did eat them, but would not recommend.

This was out first time there and my husband is Puerto Rican so we were looking forward to trying their mofongo, but ended up also ordering a cuban sandwich and two empanadas (a cheese and beef one, the wife specifically made the cheese one just for us which we really appreciated). The food was made fresh, sazon was just right, and the portions were big! Everything was honestly delicious, the couple was very friendly and made us feel like we were eating at home, and my husband even said the last time he had mofongo like that was in PR, so they got his stamp of approval as well. After having their food, I was honestly shocked by the negative reviews, so don't let those deter you from trying this place and let your mouth be the judge.

We had this food truck cater to us at work, courtesy of a rep. The food was amazing, a 5/5! The…read moreonly downside was the customer service. It was confusing at first, because this lady was standing still, facing the front of the window where you order. I thought she was in the middle of ordering food so I waited behind her. It took a few minutes to realize this lady was actually working with the food truck and taking the food orders. She also was not very friendly when I asked her a question about the food. Anyway, back to the positive notes, the food! The menu was limited to tacos, fries and drinks (soda, sparkling water). I tried the fries and fried catfish tacos (2 tacos), which came with a crema sauce, coleslaw, lightly seasoned tortilla chips. There was a bottle of salsa, assuming homemade. The salsa was delicious. The catfish tasted so fresh, was tender, and was lightly fried. The thinly cut fries were great, reminded me of McDonald's fries. The whole meal was satisfying, but I wished appetizers were available. This is one of the best food trucks in town! (food, not customer service)

The food is not good, I ordered two types of quesadillas and they both are falling apart, tortilla is soggy and the meat is just flavored so salty and off i don't know how to explain it. Tastes artificial. The service was whatever, I asked for no peppers on one quesadilla and they still put peppers. I also ordered one taco and the amount of meat that was on the taco was a joke... barely anything!! I'm from California so I know good Mexican food and I had high hopes with everyone's reviews about this place, very disappointed I would not recommend at all. For what you get and the food quality it's expensive too, not worth it at all!

Maybe it was all the talk about how good it was but we were let down :(…read more I always say sometimes expectation is the thief of joy. That was the case at Shaka Taco. No issue with the wait and the servers and staff were working hard and kind. That said, the prices were high for what you got and not having cups for water increased the dissatisfaction. We did enjoy the chips and the red salsa was good however our meals outside that were fairly flavorless. Pretty sure the only thing that was raved about was the Sangria Slush. I'm a fan of doing something and doing it well but not so sure outside the slush or the shrimp taco what the signature dish is here but it wasn't the specials, the seafood nachos, the beef, ahi tuna tacos.

Outdoor seating (no…read moreindoors) and weathered wood lends authenticity to the Surf City vibe, but then one also needs to contend with the birds and heat (minus the ocean breeze). We drove here with friends from Jacksonville (NC) and experienced the food and service and, afterwards said we'd definitely return here. Why? Tacos. We ordered four - Tuna, Shrimp, Chicken, and Veggie- all on a soft corn tortilla. Each one packed a mouthful of flavor combinations that were distinct and memorable. My blackened and seared tuna took a different turn with the bacon, yet it melded well with the cabbage and the spicy mayo. My favorite - the blackened and grilled Shrimp taco - included Asian slaw and sweet chili sauce that complimented the char. Our friends ordered the seafood nachos which frankly looked liked the shrimp and other seafood were overwhelming the chips! If I had been hungrier, I would have ordered this monster! Soft drinks (Coke products), adult beverages, and "Sweet Treats" are also available. The bathrooms are inside the surf shop. Paid parking is right next to the store.
