Only thing that was weird was the meat came as a sandwich. Thought I was ordering a typical 2 meat plate but both were really small sandwiches. I told my cousin I was craving bbq, he wasn't too familiar with many restaurants so we looked up some restaurants nearby and found this one. I'm glad we came here, everything was delicious. We ordered the platter, came with 8 ribs, 2 pounds of meats, corn bread, French fries, 2 sides, and 10 buns. Alot of food for 3 adults, plus I saw they have fried catfish, I had to order that as well. The guys behind the counter were so polite and gave us lots of suggestions. Used to love coming here as the flavor was always something unique and delicious. I had ordered the boneless wings with the sauce on side and added a side of teriyaki sauce. Previously, the boneless wings had come unbreaded and smoked. This time they came breaded like a bag of frozen boneless wings style. They also came with the sauce on them so was very bummed by the service. He did offer to remake them but you know hungry customers don't usually want to make it even more of hassle to remake food. Not a great place. Cafeteria line style ordering. Hard chairs, and dirty table. Brisket was dry, chewy, shredded and on a slider bun. Cheezy hashbrowns were one ice cream scoop sized, and drowning in salt, baked beans tasted over cooked, salty, and served in a very small styrofoam bowl. The two ribs were over cooked, dry, and I think came from a baby pig, they were that small. Not worth the price. Extra small portions, and even smaller flavor, on slider buns. Not real brisket sliced and juicy. Save your money, and go to any other BBQ place. read more

Took my family out for Sunday dinner and thought b-b-q sounded good. We should have gone elsewhere ! Food was mediocre at best ! Meats were dry, buns were probably old. Sides were meh ! Service was pretty much non existent . We ordered meal for 4-5 . The girl working the counter did not know what that was , even though it is on the menu . With only about 10 -12 people there one would think a person might come to the table to check and see if anyone needed lids for leftovers etc . Was going to order a couple ice cream cups to share. 2 flavors were advertised. Counter person stated there was about 1/2 scoop of one flavor left. Hmm? I really wanted to like this place, given that its between my home and my work, but alas, I was disappointed. I got pulled pork sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese and corn bread. The bun was nothing special. The pork was tender and had a nice strong smokey flavor. It was about as good as what I'd expect at the fair, but it was expensive ($10), and not surprisingly, not very filling. Fortunately, there is mac and cheese, right? Well, for something that is made of 2 fairly inexpensive ingredients, I can only characterize the portion as miniscule. It was about 2 tablespoons of Mac and Cheese. There was literally a larger volume of pork on my sandwich than pasta. And the nail in the coffin was the fact that it really wasn't good. Bland in flavor, and the pasta was almost a little chalky, like it was stale or cooked in some odd way. The boneless chicken "wings" were flavorful, despite not being wings (some of it was white meat). Strange, but not a deal breaker. All of the sauces were excellent. The restaurant itself is clean and modern, particularly for a BBQ joint. The service was reasonable. You will enjoy this place more if you have lower expectations and you aren't all that hungry, but honestly why you get BBQ if you wanted a light meal? read more

I really want to believe that this was just a bad rib day.... because if it was not, I'd like to know where the 4 and 5 star reviews came from! Certainly not my experience. My ribs were horrible... the first couple were okay, but from there on they were way underdone. Im not from SD, so at first I though "maybe that's just the way they make them around here"! Most of my ribs were pink and is some cases red. No way this is a local thing... My Hash brown Casserole Side was equally bad. It might as well been mashed potatoes because it was hard to find anything formed like a hash brown in my mush. To make it even worse, they smashed my serving into the styrofoam container which gave it an even more mashed potato appearance. The other side - coleslaw, was okay. When I pulled up I was a little freaked about the exterior of the building, but yelpers said the inside was nice. Which was true. The place was clean and (beside being freezing) was well decorated and maintained. Yet, some of the tables did not have napkin holders and there is only one garbage can available (for throwing away your shitty ribs)! One other thing, not once was I greeted, welcomed or asked how my meal was. 2 people working, yet not one smile or friendly comment during my dinning Experience. If you are considering eating here you should first drive by McDonalds and see if it's McRib Season... at least that "meat" is cooked, and if you have to throw that Meal away you will save about $20! read more

This place is a hidden gem. The outside of the building looks a little bit run down, but inside it's very nice. Everything is very clean. You come in and order, they give you your number, then you sit down and wait to be called. They are pretty fast. Our party was a size of 12, and we were accommodated fairly. My brother claims this place has the best ribs in towns! I had the pulled pork sandwich. I quickly devoured it. It's not the best pulled pork sandwich in the world, but adequate. BEWARE!!! I stopped in to eat dinner at 5 pm and was greeted by the owner who seemed friendly enough AT FIRST. When I asked when they put out fresh sides, he informed me they are "made in the morning and kept all day until they run out." I asked to see the sides behind the case and the sides looked dried out and gross. No thank you. I simply said "ok I think I'm going to pass." He stated "yea I think you should go. If you think you are getting fresh sides anywhere, you are crazy." Ummmm not true and I did not appreciate the way he spoke to me. I stated "I will be sure to leave you a review." He stated "I'm sure you will." So my review overall is to steer clear of this place. The owner is rude. He doesn't believe in throwing out food after his lunch rush and having fresh food for the dinner rush. We finally stopped in to eat at this new restaurant in our part of town. BBQ Back Yard Grill serves pulled pork, brisket, chicken, ribs, and wings, with all of the typical sides. Among my family, we had a pulled pork sandwich, a basket of wings, and a side of ribs. All of the meats were wonderful, and the sides fit the bill. We especially liked the Mac-and-Cheese, the baked beans, and the cornbread. It would be nice if there was a family/variety platter on the menu, but we'll definitely be going back. read more

I was going to eat at the Backyard Grill food truck parked at Ace Hardware at 12th and Kiwanis. I was on my bike and going to grab a quick lunch without going to a drive up window. I haven't ate there before so I wanted to try it. The only problem was the guy in the truck was too busy texting on his phone to wait on me. I stood there for about 30 to 40 seconds, long enough to realize he was not interested in doing business. So I went down the block to Hy vee burger shack and grabbed a burger, it was surprisingly good for $3. Saved myself $6 plus tax for the brisket sandwich. I learned something that day but I am willing to give second and maybe third chance's before I comment on the food. Reviews don't look that great but I still want to try it. read more

Atmosphere is nice. Simple menu. I didn't appreciate my service when I wanted to get an ice cream order from their side menu. The server said he CAN do half flavors though they usually don't. So I agreed with it for two flavors, my amounts received were much smaller than my peers that I came with who had one flavored ice cream. I had half the amount total in a small Dixie Cup size. The server was going on and on how he usually doesn't do this, then gives me a very little amount for the cost I paid for and made feel really awful for requesting two flavors. He continues to keep telling me it's ok, when I was not ok. I was really upset with that service. Next time, just say you can't do two flavors- just give the amount like everyone else had paid for. read more

My wife and I had this delivered and we're extremely disappointed. I ordered a pound of brisket and literally had to use a strainer to remove all of the grease. The meat was sitting in a 1/4 inch of grease. I'm also confused as to why they shred the brisket rather than slice it? Staff was very friendly explaining how to order as we had never been here before. Pulled pork, wings and fries were all pretty good. I would recommend at least adding a couple ribs for sides if not getting them for your whole meal because they were literally falling off the bone with great smoky flavor and good rub seasoning.
