We used yelp to find this place and what a treat! The smell of fresh fruit fills the air when one walks into the small restaurant. With blenders whirling and a line of 10 hungry souls, we were torn between choices of porridge, smoothies and fruit! My husband had the cashew milk oatmeal filled with almonds, cinnamon, fresh berries and bananas while I customized my oatmeal (his was five stars plus and mine was four based on me not knowing to add cashew milk etc. to duplicate taste) so go with the menu option where they have it down pat! Could not wait to go back next day before flying out. They are about 3 miles from airport. It was 7am and they do not open until 8 on Saturday! What a disappointment! We were salivating for one of their fresh berry bowls. Earlier risers disappointment. Eating greasy eggs and bacon at airport while dreaming of healthy mouthfuls at Backyard Bowls!!!! read more

This is a great healthy spot to grab something naturally sweet to eat. I usually get their island bowl and it holds me down for a few hours before i need something a bit more filling. I suggest to dine-in if you have the time as it seems like you get more than the to-go portion.The staff is always friendly here! read more

Can definitely say I do not plan on returning here. I decided to try it after hearing all the hype about their bowls, and ordered a large Dragon Bowl with add ins such as goji berries and pea protein so my order for one item came out to a whopping $15. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who plans on being able to still buy food (elsewhere, paying rent, etc. The best part of this experience was when I went to pick up my order and was handed a small smoothie... when I told the employee it wasn't my order, instead of offering to actually make my order, they gave me a shoulder shrug and promptly walked away. This place is really good - but the bowls seem to have a lot of calories, so be careful about that! You can order a smaller portion in the kid sizes which is more reasonable. Overall, the bowls are delicious and healthy here : ). read more

I accidentally forgot to ask my order taker to put peanut butter on top and they accidentally blended it. I had been looking forward to this bowl that I asked them to remake it. We used to come here every week, but then they changed the seating from cozy wooden tables to just a few metal chairs. Now there's hardly any seating and it's really crowded so unfortunately we eat elsewhere. Bummer. They still make great bowls... 5 stars for the food, 1 star for the setting. read more

So far I've had the berry bowl, the island bowl, and the backyard bowl. All of them were delicious! This place never disappoints and I am always excited to eat here. Backyard Bowls is my ultimate FAVORITE place for Acai Bowls!!! My only regret is that I wish I had discovered this place sooner when I was attending UCSB years ago lol.. UGHHH! It's okay.. I make sure to go to Backyard Bowls whenever I am in SB though! All of their locations are great, consistent, friendly service, massive portions, and absolutely delishhh!!! Sooo I came here today w/ the BF for a snack before a 5 hour drive back to the city. He claims he wasn't hungry and didn't want an acai bowl.. that's until we got there! We both ended up ordering our own "small". We went for the Diego and the new Gainz Bowl! We are obsessed with peanut butter so that already makes it 1000x better for us! I've tried many of their bowls so I can't decide which one is my favorite.. you cannot go wrong! I live in SF now so I have to settle for what's here.. This place is amazing. They're a little more on the expensive side so I don't go too often but it is definitely one of my favorites. I'm too scared to venture out from what I usually get so I always end up going with my go to which is the island bowl. It's absolutely delicious and the small is enough to keep me full for hours. Definitely a good choice when I want something light and not too heavy. read more

Love me some backyard bowl. Every item on their menu I've tried has been awesome. I like the splash of yogurt to an acai bowl to add a little protein. Most of the employees have been nice and courteous and seem to care about doing a good job which struck me as refreshing. I wish they were open past 5 so I could go by on my way home from work for a dinner pick up. But I understand that may not be cost effective. It's pretty hard to find places to eat that focus on good organic foods. We were really happy to find this place on our way home from a mini vacation. It was a happy Sunday morning and my fiance and I were going to stop into Backyard bowl before going on a hike in the nearby area. We often frequent the BYB downtown and love the customer service at that location. This morning we walk up to the entrance which is wide open with fun music playing and go straight to the counter to place our order since we knew exactly what we wanted. I love the Diego bowl and my fiance loves the oatmeal with jam. But not this morning because at 7:57am your two workers who were standing side by side talking said that you did not open for five more minutes and we would need to wait before they could take our orders. I just felt that this was a little ridiculous considering that the doors were open and music was on but she wanted us to wait to take our orders. It would not have been that difficult to say good morning and come take our orders. I understand that it is early on a sunday morning for some but Starbucks would never have customer service problem. If they are not open then the doors remain locked until business hours and do not make their paying customers wait. After that situation we headed downtown to grab something before going on our hike. read more
