Which came first meal with waffle fries
    Doug M.

Fried chicken breast was juicy and flavorful, with a crispy coating. Coating had a sweetness to it, which was surprising but actually enjoyable. I suppose it makes sense for a chicken & donuts place. Waffle fries were excellent. They are cooked with a curly fries type of coating, and sprinkled with flaked salt to make them a winner. Chicken sandwiches were pretty good, but Nashville hot wasn't especially Nashville hot, and the comeback sauce on the Which Came First also wasn't very spicy, despite being marked as a spicy sandwich. The biscuit that came with the two piece meal was big, and the top half was pretty good, but it was kind of doughy in the bottom half as if it could have used a couple more minutes in the oven.

What a crazy concept. Had to try the fried chicken and of course the donuts. And wow both were fantastic. The fried chicken is just simply delicious with a nice crispy skin, a drizzle of honey and a little rosemary. Delicious and interesting selection of scratch donuts. I had the plum and black and white. Really good! Can't wait to try some other things.

Over cooked chicken fingers. Fries were good at least.

Can't crow too much about the chicken here. The Nashville chicken sandwich was slightly spicy but the chicken was so cooked that you basically were biting into crunch instead of meat. The bun was good but the chicken was just cooked too much and it has that dried out texture / taste to it. Same thing with the chicken fingers. My dining partner couldn't even finish one quarter of them because they were so overcooked. Plus we come from a part of the country where chicken fingers are always premium white meat. Not dark meat.

We saw this place from the road so we decided to try their food. HORRIBLE! I've tasted better chicken from Popeyes and Jim's wings than this. The chicken is so dry and absolutely NO SEASONING with a taste of honey! I could never eat here again. The biscuit was dry and hard. I know everyone has different taste is different but I'm from New York and this business would not last.

Waffle fries with amazing garlic aioli sauce

We ordered the garlic aioli waffle fries to start off our food-venture and it was an excellent choice! They came out fast, hot, crispy, with plenty of sauce. The garlic aioli sauce was flavorful but not acidic or overpowering like some garlic sauces can be. I'm very interested in trying the kimchi grilled cheese but didn't see a price. I'll probably ask next time since I sounds good. I'll update this review if I do!

Donuts: cinnamon sugar, chocolate, vanilla, July flavor (strawberry glaze with cream) Breakfast sandwiches: the Standard & the Hangover
    Kelsey B.

We finally got around to trying Backyard Bird for weekend brunch. We ordered two of their breakfast sandwiches (the Standard and the Hangover) as well as four of their donuts (cinnamon sugar, chocolate glazed, vanilla glazed, and their July specialty flavor - strawberry glazed with cream and blueberries). Overall takeaway: Everything was good...not great. Donut note - if you prefer airy raised donuts, this place is NOT for you. Their raised donuts are very heavy and cakey plus they have an odd lemon undertone. Their breakfast sandwiches are also just OK. I'm glad we tried Backyard for brunch, however, I certainly wouldn't go out of my way for it again.

Nashville Hot chicken sandwich, waffle fries and aioli sauce

The sandwich is a tad over cooked and could be a little more spicy. Spicy level is 6/10. Overall 6.5/10. It's a really good meal just those small things. Meal cost for two was $30.65 The service is really good, she helped me with all the menu items and answered all my questions. The store gives me a modem/country chick fil a. A good vibe.

    Nice patio area #socialdistancing

This place is a gem! I had the white meat plate. The breast was juicy with a lightly honey sweetened breading that was beyond delicious. And crispy! Bacon wings were a hit. Even with kids. I chose the mashed with bacon gravy for a side along with Brussels sprouts and a biscuit. The sprouts were so good! They're shredded and tender, so they're not bitter or burned. They topping was thick meaty cuts of bacon cooked to perfection. The potatoes were pretty good. I enjoyed the biscuit in the bacon gravy and wondered if that was on the breakfast menu. (Yes, they serve breakfast too) They have unique, assuming local, sodas. We got a kick out of the pineapple cream soda. Their dining room is tiny, but if you're cool with sitting on stools at a 'bar', there is a lot of opportunity. There are a few tables and booths inside as well. We ate on the patio which had 5-6 tables, and made nice for social distancing. Yep. It's still Corona time. They were sanitizing and had signs

    Chicken strips
    Madison C.

The first time we went here it was some of the best chicken I've ever had, but the last two times have been very disappointing. These are the "Chicken Strips" we were given. They were basically scraps from other cuts of chicken and tasted pretty bad with lots of fat and gristle :( the picture shows what they brought the second time after complaining the first time about the strips being burnt. Don't think we'll be returning sadly. Fries are a 10/10 though.

Average chicken, on the dry side. Donuts were fresh, but also a bit dry and unremarkable. Friendly service.

The bar almost resembles something you might find in a small European hotel, which may suggest they are aiming for a slightly upscale tone, though it never feels pretentious. The seating is varied, with small tables and retro chairs that seem intentionally chosen rather than bought in bulk. The spacing is better than most coffee shops, which makes it easy to settle in without feeling crowded. The back area opens up even more, and the soft drapery adds a touch of personality that appears to hint at events or just a bit of flair. The staff continues to be the standout for me. Everyone I spoke with was kind in a way that felt natural, and they knew the menu well enough to help me navigate dairy free options. I usually order the avocado toast on focaccia because it is consistently fresh. The bread looks oversized at first but is airy and soft, and the avocado and radish topping feels simple in the best way. The matcha made with water has also become a go to since it tastes smooth and well-bodied without that chalky, thin finish some places have. My partner and I visited during their Dia de Los Muertos weekend and tried a few themed items. Everything was good, and they were quick to suggest dairy free choices. Prices seem fair, even with the general bump everywhere lately. The only thing I wish they had more of is outlets. It is still a nice place to work for a couple of hours, but coming with a charged laptop helps. The overall vibe is calm with just enough energy to keep the space from feeling sleepy. It works well for coffee dates, casual catch ups, or solo work, especially for anyone who prefers a relaxed atmosphere without too much chaos.

They offer sparkling water with their cortados, as some cafes do, which is a pretty cool touch. Sometimes they offer the choice of two different roasts for their espresso drinks, which I've never seen before anywhere else, ever. Stop reading here if that's all you need to know. Today. I order a Smokey Mocha (they also have a regular Mocha on the menu). Side note. It's really hard to screw up a mocha. At its most basic it's hot chocolate with shots of espresso. Even with bad or mediocre espresso shots there's usually enough milk and chocolate to cover it up. On the flipside, it's really hard to make a mocha that stands out from the crowd. (Spoiler-Dark Heart surpasses all that mocha mediocrity). Rewind. The first time I went to Dark Heart a couple years ago, a menu item caught my attention. The Smokey Mocha. My friend and I asked what it was. The barista at the register smiled and gave us her sales pitch. Something she'd obviously done many times and still didn't seem to mind doing. My friend and I were both sold as we each ordered one. After I was done with my Smokey Mocha, I wanted to order another. Unfortunately, we were coffee cafe hopping and had four more stops. When I got home, I started gushing about my Smokey Mocha to the SO and anyone else who would listen. Fast forward back to today. I order the 8-ounce Smokey Mocha for here. My drink has a nice heart design with a generous amount of black lava sea salt sprinkled on top. I smell notes of cocoa, but I can't tell if it's from the espresso (Relentless blend) or the cocoa powder. With every sip I take, I taste warm sweet (from cane sugar and maple syrup) mocha that ends with a touch of salt. The smoked paprika is an afterthought. I savor my drink, but I reach the bottom of my mug much too quickly. I swirl the mug to get the last dregs of salt and cocoa powder (single origin cocoa powder from the Philippines according to the barista). As I drive away, I can taste the salt on my llips, and I still feel the astringency of the cocoa powder in my mouth. This is no ordinary mocha drink. The Dark Heart Smokey Mocha has no equal.
