Many people rave about their sandwiches, so we decided to stay for lunch. Hubby had a Cuban sandwich, and I had a warm roast beef and provolone sandwich with banana peppers. We both really enjoyed our food! If you're just visiting town, I recommend staying upstairs at The West Main. They have beautiful renovated rooms and all the amenities of a home away from home.

I have been to hundreds of breweries but it has been a long time since I've enjoyed a visit like it did my boost to loyal oak. Cool atmosphere, quality beer, friendly service and a comfortable atmosphere both indoors and outdoors make this a must visit when in the area. Enjoyed the sound of crickets while enjoying music outdoors and appreciated the conversations with the local patrons. As a visitor to North Carolina from Massachusetts, I felt right at home at Loyal Oak and will surely be back whenever I'm in the area. Can't say enough about what a nice and relaxing visit it was!

After being recommended by our server while eating dinner, we took a venture and found Hook Hand! What a bombshell of a place! Unique. One of a kind. Beer- we had 3 different ones and we were pleasantly surprised. No dark beer but the Belgian we had held its own. Sangria was great. The apple cider was great. They had some sours and wheats which is definitely appropriate for its style of Brewery. We have been all over the country seeing breweries and this by far is the most eccentric and perfectly cool place. Bright colors, unique posters have you feeling like you just smoked a mushroom. Maybe? Idk but we had a great time. Owner is neat. Washers and dryers are painted by an artist outside which perimeter the outdoor area. First glance is a chuckle and second glance you see the artistry and creativity. Worth the stop! Endless possibilities over conversation starters amongst the walls.

Not to mention the steamed broccoli with cheese! You are seated at a U-shaped bar while your personal server shucks your oysters, one at a time, and brings your choice of steamed seafood. They have crab legs also. You will have a personal tube of saltine crackers, hot sauce, horseradish, whatever you need. Beer and wine available. It isn't cheap -- It is fresh seafood. The friends we invited from out of town said it was worth the drive!! They open the doors at 5:30 - get there early or expect to wait, especially on weekends. They close for the summer like the traditional oyster bar they are.

They changed the formula, distilling (7x) and filtering it (2x) way too much, to the point that it has no character, and has that vague gasoline-like back end. We walked in without a reservation, but I would recommend making one if you want better seating options. It was raining during our visit, but we were still able to enjoy dining indoors. Out waiter was friendly, answered all of our questions, and gave us some great recommendations. Now for the food, everything came out hot which is always a plus. The wings were small however the sauce was tasty! We tried to figure out what sauce they use lol they said it was restaurant made. They were out of a few menu items, which was a little disappointing but thankfully the food we did order made up for it. The homemade mashed potatoes were a highlight and carrots were well seasoned and full of flavor. My partner had great things to say about the pork chop as well. The lemon drop was another win for me! It didn't have an overpowering lemon flavor and I would definitely order it again. One thing to keep in mind is that they offer a seasonal menu so some items may not always be available depending on when you visit. Overall we enjoyed the ambience, service and food.

The crab cakes were okay, not as flavorful as I had them before, but the fingerlings were tasteful, the shrimp had a good grilled flavor, I ordered an $8 side of shrimp and received six pieces, which I thought was a little odd for a side order, my drink was nice and strong. Unfortunately, my wifes salmon was completely burnt on the bottom which was disappointing. Our food had already taken so long to come out that by that point, we didn't even want to wait around to have the issue addressed or the salmon remade. My wifes drink was also very syrupy and overly sweet, we addressed this with the bartender and she said she could add another shot for $8, we kindly declined and she took it off our bill which was nice. The service from the bartender was good, our food just took way too long and then we spent all that time waiting only for the meal itself to be mediocre. The views and atmosphere are still great, but the food experience this time around definitely fell short.
