    Place looks really quaint

What a quaint place! Stopped by for lunch on our way back from Lennox Island. Lunch special was mussels & chowder for $11.95. We also had a dozen and a half of the oysters... Best oysters anywhere! And the mussels were so sweet! My dad had the lobster roll and that was pretty good too. The fries on PEI are exceptional, best potatoes we've had and they know how to cook them to perfection! For desert we had Granny's carrot cake, very moist and not overly sweet! Oh yes, and they have a nice selection of local beer! There was only one waitress, and she was really nice despite the fact that the place was busy. A great stop!

Stopped here today for a beautiful lunch on the sunny patio. Chowder was fresh and generous with seafood. Bar clams were a great start, with a very nice mayo that had the perfect amount of kick. The signature burger with oysters was great. I was surprised at how well the flavours worked together. Local beers and beer knowledge was icing on the cake. Great service, prices and atmosphere.

The so awesome "Granny's" carrot cake.

We're renting a house on the island and we're referred here to eat dinner. The pub has allot of character! My wife and I both decided to have burgers. I had the Jeff Burger with the fried oysters on top, and hand cut fries. Very good. Their burgers are made in house and not frozen. For desert our server Erica recommended her "Granny's" carrot cake. She said it was the best. I have to say that I agree. Some of the best carrot cake I've ever had. I will try to attach a photo.

    Very fresh oysters!

The oysters are fresh and delish!!!!!!Perfect. The waitstaff were friendly and helpful. The fish and chips were a bit greasy.

    Premium oysters

Wandering vaguely north and west on PEI and getting hungry. Lots of country churches and farms and red dirt roads along the water, but not much to eat. Out of the blue we fall into the town of Tyne Valley at 2PM and are startled to see The Landing with an 'open' sign. Really? And for oysters and craft beer? What a wonderful place. Fabulous local oysters from nearby Malpaque Bay, a variety of good beer, best fish tacos I have ever had, and great personalities serving the tables and behind the bar.

    Review Highlights - Backwoods Burger

Our guests had a Jeff Burger on homemade bun that featured a selection of meat from the sea as well as land (I was told me it was delicious).

As good and fresh as mussels get and as wonderful as service gets!…read more After driving through a couple of towns, down a strange dirt road (not the typical route!), and arriving at The Black Horse BBQ & Grill, we weren't sure what to expect. There is a real community hall feel to the pub, it's definitely not the fanciest or somewhere you'd typically bring a first date. But who needs fancy, who need pretentious - good people, good food, and good beer is sometimes all you need! We were a group of 8 and my husband had luckily found out about The Black Horse via Google search. Sitting down with hungry bellies, seven of us opted for the mussels to start for $5 per pound. Now. These mussels are farmed just down the road and come in plain, buffalo, wine & garlic, or spicy tomato (I see they have a new salt & pepper popcorn flavor as well!). The. Best. Mussels. I've. Ever. Had. No joke. Just delicious - all flavours. The meals were decent, not super memorable though - the sweet potato fries were very tasty. The food was pretty much typical pub food, which is why I take one star off this otherwise 5 star review. The service was really some of the best service I've had anywhere. How often does the owner come up, chat with your table, and sit down for some welcome conversation? How often do they really, actually care and go out of their way to find out how you like the food? He was very proud of the buffalo wing flavoured mussels with blue cheese dipping sauce - his own creation. Rightfully proud, I might add, they were soooo tasty, great flavor combination! And when we mentioned that we were interested in deep sea fishing, he called up his cousin and handed my husband his cell. It turned out his cousin ran a deep sea fishing boat and we met up with him the next afternoon! All in all, it was memorable PEI experience for all of us...I'm only sad that I do not have access to those mussels any time I want!

Dishes ordered: Mussels Wings Fish & Chips The mussels were more plentiful than the first visit and super fresh. We ordered them plain this time, and they were so good. There is no reason to dress up these mussels. Not one mussel in the whole dish was even unopened which means they were super fresh. The wings were superb. Crispy, and seasoned skin. So good! We ordered them with the homemade BBQ sauce, great choice. The wings were so tender on the inside. Fish & Chips were the only complaint. The filet was quite thin so it was overcooked. I think if we had a normal sized filet, the kitchen would not have screwed it up. The batter though, was very tasty and cooked in very good/fresh oil. The fries, same as last time, were fresh, well cooked, and excellent. Beer, cheap. Great.
