we were greeted by an individual that was all business, no small talk, and wasn't interested on letting us choose our seat, and not because it was crowded. the seat we requested remained empty the whole time we were there. Our waitress was very stern, half smile, no small talk, and all business. made us feel like a nuisance. our food was ok, but the sauce that I requested to be light on the helping was full on. Great little burger joint! Burgers were old fashioned patties with innovative sauces and toppings. The service was lovely, and the buns were also delicious. The building offers a historic setting with a modern twist. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area! read more

What a quaint place! Stopped by for lunch on our way back from Lennox Island. Lunch special was mussels & chowder for $11.95. We also had a dozen and a half of the oysters... Best oysters anywhere! And the mussels were so sweet! My dad had the lobster roll and that was pretty good too. The fries on PEI are exceptional, best potatoes we've had and they know how to cook them to perfection! For desert we had Granny's carrot cake, very moist and not overly sweet! Oh yes, and they have a nice selection of local beer! There was only one waitress, and she was really nice despite the fact that the place was busy. A great stop! read more

My favorite place on the island! Lots of character, always happy with the food and they serve Moth Lane beer.

Stopped here today for a beautiful lunch on the sunny patio. Chowder was fresh and generous with seafood. Bar clams were a great start, with a very nice mayo that had the perfect amount of kick. The signature burger with oysters was great. I was surprised at how well the flavours worked together. Local beers and beer knowledge was icing on the cake. We're renting a house on the island and we're referred here to eat dinner. The pub has allot of character! My wife and I both decided to have burgers. I had the Jeff Burger with the fried oysters on top, and hand cut fries. Very good. Their burgers are made in house and not frozen. For desert our server Erica recommended her "Granny's" carrot cake. She said it was the best. I have to say that I agree. Some of the best carrot cake I've ever had. I will try to attach a photo. read more

Only ate here the once but when I did the staff were amazing and so was the establishment. I have a daughter who was 6 at the time and she is gluten free and I thought I would order her fries and not a burger (as she doesn't normally eat burgers) but they said they had a gluten free option so ordered one for her and her reply was this burger is worth a million dollars. That was her first time finishing a whole burger. Safe to say we called and asked them about what buns they use and they were great to help us out with that. Will definitely be back for some awesome food. read more

Meh just meh. 2 1/2 stars. First the pro's; Decoration inside was earthy and dark. A nice little cave like atmosphere if you like that sort of thing. We were greeted promptly , handed menus and given our choice of seats. Hostess was pleasant. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Cons ----------- AC was not turned on if they had it and it was sweltering in there. It was so hot and unpleasant I could not eat my food because I felt sick from heat. Only one vegetarian option, salad which I boxed up for home. Though the salad was to be my main meal it was skimpy and sad, did not come with bread and had raw onions in it that I removed . Partner ordered the fish and chips which were 2 smallish pieces of battered fish and fries. (He said he had better ) No air wall so flies were constantly trying to land on our food and drinks. All in all this place could use some fine tuning with menu selection, prices and AC. read more

We went there on a whim... it is always interesting to follow a whim, and I am ever so grateful that we did. It was not a place I had been to in many years and my memories were of pub food and beer but nothing special. Ownership has changed and so has the cuisine. The new iteration of this lovely restaurant retains the charm and character of the surroundings (every time I've been there I get a slightly different explanation for the rail on the ceiling, one day maybe I will understand the original purpose). What made me smile, even more than the charm, was the selection of local beer (beer from Prince Edward Island) and the realization that I did not have to drive all the way to Charlottetown to get this. They featured beer from all three of the local breweries, and after sampling these I can attest to the maturing nature of our craft brew scene. The food was yummy, my fish tacos had just enough spice and a lovely mixture of crunch that made me reminiscent of the food trucks from Austin Texas. Our guests had a Jeff Burger on homemade bun that featured a selection of meat from the sea as well as land (I was told me it was delicious). The haddock for the fish and chips was generous, not greasy, moist and the obligatory mound of hand cut fries were crisp and tasty. We enjoyed a selection of fresh local oysters on the half shell as well as PEI's famous blue muscles. The server was quick, congenial, answering every question with a smile on her face. I am told they have a lovely Sunday breakfast that starts at 9 AM and goes until the ingredients run out. I will definitely be in attendance in the very near future. On the whole, an excellent meal, not too pricey, lovely/charming surroundings, craft beer that does not require a one and a half hour drive. What more can I say. read more

A 30 minute trip out from Summerside to try this quaint country pub seemed like a good idea. Oysters were apparently trapped under the late winter ice and suppliers were shipping to Toronto but not locally, which was disappointing but excusable. However, running out of burger buns during a burger festival, knowingly serving overcooked clams and apologizing by sending out the properly cooked ones after, and waiting over an hour for pub food is not. The restaurant is beautiful and filled with character. The service was friendly, but owner/server and her assistant/father were often absent for long intervals. With such a remote location relying on customers making a special trip, this restaurant can't afford to disappoint. Maybe the one-time tourist crowd is paying the bills in the summers but winter survival needs islanders to love and share this place. I hope the owner visits some busy established gastropubs and tastes some (properly seasoned) burgers and takes notes on service. I look forward to coming back in a year to give it a second chance. read more

One of the best Lobster Rolls I have had! Just enuf mayo to hold that sweet, tender lobster together, a sprinkle of green onion=YUM. John had raw oysters (shucked at the table by Cortney, who will also answer any question you might have about "what's good"?) topped off with Fried Oysters to complete his favorite seafood meal. If you are in PEI, take the lovely ride out to Tyne Valley to this spot. We'd go back for sure. read more

Found Backwoods Burger on our way back from West Point Lighthouse. It's a smaller restaurant with 8-10 tables and a couple seats at the bar. For an appetizer I would suggest the Thai Curry mussels which were amazing. They're not over seasoned with curry but have enough to make you feel the heat. For lunch the table had the DAM burger, Return of the MAC and Mac N Cheese. The DAM burgers were a hit and it's the sauce that makes them memorable. The Mac N Cheese is not your typical cheese soup with macaroni like most places in the area serve. The cheese coats the macaroni perfectly and it's finished off with bread crumbs. The Return of the MAC is a burger with Mac N Cheese on it. While this combo sounded great the burger was a little dry and I'm not sure if it was too well done or there was no real sauce on it to moisten it. Overall everyone left happy and full. read more

Wandering vaguely north and west on PEI and getting hungry. Lots of country churches and farms and red dirt roads along the water, but not much to eat. Out of the blue we fall into the town of Tyne Valley at 2PM and are startled to see The Landing with an 'open' sign. Really? And for oysters and craft beer? What a wonderful place. Fabulous local oysters from nearby Malpaque Bay, a variety of good beer, best fish tacos I have ever had, and great personalities serving the tables and behind the bar. read more

First night in PEI and this was a great start to the vacation. Oysters were awesome, perfectly shucked lots of juice, yum. Had mussels, very good, sauce ok. Scallops although way over done were saved by the fact they are so fresh. Anywhere else they would have been a smelly fishy disaster. Loved the atmosphere, would come back... They were out of lobster. read more
