This place is a lot of fun. Food is tasty. Atmosphere is good. Docks are well-kept. Dock girls actually know what they are doing. Socks are on the shorter side but they have a variety of widths for all boats. All that aside...their "rules" and security personnel are a bit "twisted". I 100% understand the rule of no kids after late hours and/or weekends, BUT...They have zero problems letting highly intoxicated "adults" in the pool area during specific hours, yet deny a single kid who is there with over 3 dozen people. They have zero problems over-serving said adults yet refuse to let the most obedient "kid" in due to his age. He's not sitting at the bar. He's not trying to drink alcohol. He's not being rude or hyper or disrespectful. He would simply sit against the fence and enjoy being with his "crew". Their reasoning...kids jump in the pool and splash and piss off paying patrons. Again, I understand that reasoning. However, when said very mature 12 year-old is more well-behaved than 90% of the over-served adults they let in the pool area, who are so beyond drunk that they jump & splash and piss off more patrons than any single child could, is not allowed in is beyond ridiculous. Especially since he has been allowed in since the pool was built. When you have a group of over 3 dozen full boats roll up at 7:00 on a Thursday evening and there are literally 30 people in the pool area, denying them access because they have a pre-teen who is more responsible than 1/2 the people in the pool, is, in my opinion, a poor business decision. Especially when said group typically buys OVER 1,000 shots in a couple hours. The sign states: "No children under 10 in pool" Not pool "area". Let's not forget that they put a piece of tape over the day and time and constantly change the "rules". How is anyone supposed to plan a vacation with ever-changing "rules" that are sometimes enforced and sometimes ignored and sometimes don't exist?????? Your best bet, if you have kids and want to cool off in a pool, spend your money at kid-friendly places like Redheads Dog Days or Coconuts or H. Toads. read more

Had a great time at backwater jacks when we stopped in for lunch. Very fun atmosphere with lots of people and good music. Service was very nice and prompt! We had the "Pain in the Ass" drink which is a piña colada with strawberry daiquiri and it was delicious and refreshing! The food was also amazing and we left stuffed. The bartender at the rear bar next to the bathrooms mother-F me and another customer waiting in line for service. When he asked me when I wanted to drink I hesitated for about 3 seconds then said "you lost your turn". I then said is that how you treat your customers? He then told me to F-off and if I didn't like it go somewhere else. All the other customer standing trying to get served we're saying I don't believe he just said that. (Two couples walked off after hearing his rude cussing) I've been a customer of backwaters for the last 20 years, and won't be back! Great place, food and drinks! Bloody Mary made spicy was delicious. Jacks Chicken quesadilla was fresh and cheesy, Husband had cheese burger and it was great too. Had live music, several different outside seating levels overlooking the music, pool, lake happenings. We will be back. Backwater Jacks is a quintessential lake place. Now that it has the outdoor pool and swim up bar it has become incredibly popular and crowded. I've been many times in the past but it's starting to become too trendy for my family. Some of Jacks food is pretty good. Especially love the grouper fingers, fried grouper sandwich and their fried potato salad. Other items we've had we didn't care for like the nachos, oysters and Cuban sandwich. Those are not worth it. The drinks are good, bar tenders seem to know what they are doing. The wait staff is friendly but generally new and very inexperienced. Some of the prices for food are bit too high in my opinion. This definitely attracts a young party crowd on the weekends. Live music also draws in the boaters and crowds. People under 30 will love it. Backwater Jacks is my favorite on the water location to date in the Lake of the Ozarks. They are located at mile marker 17.5 if you come by boat. The atmosphere, service, and food are all top notch. We were on a mission to find the best Pain in the A__ on the Lake, and we did. The floaters only add to the drink. Enjoy a drink with a lake view on one of Backwater Jacks decks and feel the stress of life melt away. Backwater Jacks food should not be ignored. The Grouper Fingers are a MUST order item. Pro-Tip: Ask for a side of the apricot dipping sauce for your fish, even better! The Crab Rangoon are homemade and unlike any I have ever tried. They are not your standard frozen fare. The filling is mild and almost sweet. Our server Jackson was excellent. Ask for his section when you visit. I will be back to Backwater Jacks on my next trip to the Lake! Pretty cool place that really does feel like back water. No street lights small road. Makes it feel hidden. And the hill its sits on the bottom of is no joke. Steep. But they make nice grotto layout. We wanted to go to a local place to eat endnote the hotel reserve. This place was recommended by several locals in the area. I had the lime grilled chicken entree which was probably the best I've had in a long time! My husband had the club sandwich and the fried potato salad (which reminded me of tater tots) which is their signature side. The bar and restaurant was pretty slow since it was about 1530 but that was fine. By the time we left, at around 1700, the place was beginning to fill We saw the bar in the pool (which I have liked in the past) but I'm not really a beach/pool/lake person so not a draw for me. Seems like this place had decided their party scene is more important than their food quality and service. We used to be huge fans of this place, but in the past few years the food quality and service has greatly changed for the worse. We went here last Tuesday to grab lunch. We got there right at 11am when they opened. We were promptly seated on the patio, as we were one of maybe 3-4 tables in the entire place. When we ordered, I requested wheat bread for my chicken bacon grill instead of a bun. The server said she wasn't sure the cooks could modify that. Seriously? It's too hard for them to grab a piece of wheat instead of a bun? Ok fine, whatever. When our food finally did come out 30 minutes later, it was just ok, meh. Then we had to hunt down the server for our bill, as most of the employees were hanging out inside avoiding customers. We had to hunt her down again to give her our card so we could leave. Overall, a very underwhelming experience and we probably won't be back at this point. Dog Days and Shorty Pants have much better quality food, so we'll stick with them. read more

They have a dock so you can pull up boat style if you happen to own pr rent that type of luxury/have the perk of affording to do so., The upstairs area was basic bar with fans outside and they had a few different offerings.
