Had live music, several different outside seating levels overlooking the music, pool, lake happenings. We will be back. Arrived in a Thursday night seated quickly our waiter took our drink order. He was great very speedy knew the menu. We ordered our food. We both had "Grouper" sandwiches, a signature item. Fish was cooked well but bland except for salt. Sides were good we had red beans and rice and fried green beans. I'm pretty sure that the fish isn't grouper. It taste and looks like Swai or Masa. The bartender at the rear bar next to the bathrooms mother-F me and another customer waiting in line for service. When he asked me when I wanted to drink I hesitated for about 3 seconds then said "you lost your turn". I then said is that how you treat your customers? He then told me to F-off and if I didn't like it go somewhere else. All the other customer standing trying to get served we're saying I don't believe he just said that. (Two couples walked off after hearing his rude cussing) I've been a customer of backwaters for the last 20 years, and won't be back! Management needs to have a hard to sit down with his employees and remind them who the customers is! I normally don't write very many reviews, but had to about this insulting bar tender. read more

Backwater Jacks is a quintessential lake place. Now that it has the outdoor pool and swim up bar it has become incredibly popular and crowded. I've been many times in the past but it's starting to become too trendy for my family. Some of Jacks food is pretty good. Especially love the grouper fingers, fried grouper sandwich and their fried potato salad. Other items we've had we didn't care for like the nachos, oysters and Cuban sandwich. Those are not worth it. The drinks are good, bar tenders seem to know what they are doing. The wait staff is friendly but generally new and very inexperienced. Some of the prices for food are bit too high in my opinion. This definitely attracts a young party crowd on the weekends. Live music also draws in the boaters and crowds. People under 30 will love it. Not especially great for families with younger children. read more

Wanted to try the crab legs out, I'm big on boils. I feel that they were overpriced and small. The taste was a bit different as well. Most likely cause they freeze them to keep. The meet didn't come out of the shell well at all. Looks like I gotta drive to get better shell fish. Backwater Jacks is my favorite on the water location to date in the Lake of the Ozarks. They are located at mile marker 17.5 if you come by boat. The atmosphere, service, and food are all top notch. We were on a mission to find the best Pain in the A__ on the Lake, and we did. The floaters only add to the drink. Enjoy a drink with a lake view on one of Backwater Jacks decks and feel the stress of life melt away. Backwater Jacks food should not be ignored. The Grouper Fingers are a MUST order item. Pro-Tip: Ask for a side of the apricot dipping sauce for your fish, even better! The Crab Rangoon are homemade and unlike any I have ever tried. They are not your standard frozen fare. The filling is mild and almost sweet. Our server Jackson was excellent. Ask for his section when you visit. I will be back to Backwater Jacks on my next trip to the Lake! Pretty cool place that really does feel like back water. No street lights small road. Makes it feel hidden. And the hill its sits on the bottom of is no joke. Steep. But they make nice grotto layout. We wanted to go to a local place to eat endnote the hotel reserve. This place was recommended by several locals in the area. I had the lime grilled chicken entree which was probably the best I've had in a long time! My husband had the club sandwich and the fried potato salad (which reminded me of tater tots) which is their signature side. The bar and restaurant was pretty slow since it was about 1530 but that was fine. By the time we left, at around 1700, the place was beginning to fill We saw the bar in the pool (which I have liked in the past) but I'm not really a beach/pool/lake person so not a draw for me. Seems like this place had decided their party scene is more important than their food quality and service. We used to be huge fans of this place, but in the past few years the food quality and service has greatly changed for the worse. We went here last Tuesday to grab lunch. We got there right at 11am when they opened. We were promptly seated on the patio, as we were one of maybe 3-4 tables in the entire place. When we ordered, I requested wheat bread for my chicken bacon grill instead of a bun. The server said she wasn't sure the cooks could modify that. Seriously? It's too hard for them to grab a piece of wheat instead of a bun? Ok fine, whatever. When our food finally did come out 30 minutes later, it was just ok, meh. Then we had to hunt down the server for our bill, as most of the employees were hanging out inside avoiding customers. We had to hunt her down again to give her our card so we could leave. Overall, a very underwhelming experience and we probably won't be back at this point. Dog Days and Shorty Pants have much better quality food, so we'll stick with them. read more

Been assaulted twice in two years from separate door guys. Then they had the nerve to call cops on me cops came and after hearing the story he realized that the door guys were actual pieces of shit and gave me a ride home. There was some little door guy who thought he was real tough. Small guy, dark hair, goatee, imagine he had a tiny pecker by the way he was acting so angry. Anywho, Let him choke me for 15 seconds and it actually turned into a laugh cuz he had the force of an ant. Very pathetic man. Terrible, terrible human being. They have a dock so you can pull up boat style if you happen to own pr rent that type of luxury/have the perk of affording to do so., The upstairs area was basic bar with fans outside and they had a few different offerings. Unusual setting with general bar food. If it's fried food you love you will be fine. Overall I just disnt like the menu. Though locals raved of oversized calamari rings and fried grouper. Family was seated waited 15 minutes...flagged a server down ( was seated outside with one other family so they were not busy during the week.)..dropped off water took our drink order and we asked for another water.
