The literal only reason this place is even getting two stars is for those BBQ Nachos. The French dip gave me food poisoning. Let me explain. My family and I took an autumn drive to the lake, and due to our summer experiences, we decided to eat at H. Toads. Let me tell you, the winter off season H. Toads and the summer one...are not the same. First, this place is gorgeous and has amazing views of the lake! We ordered Chicken Rangoons, BBQ Nachos for the table, a breakfast burger for my son, Fish & Chips for myself and a French Dip for my grandma. My auntie ate a little off everyone's. The chicken Rangoons weren't bad but were dense and I feel like they needed something fresh like some green onions inside or something. The nachos slapped. Seriously the best thing we ordered. The fish and chips were so...sooo bland. No salt to be seen anywhere. My son said the burger wasn't bad. But the real villain of this story...the French Dip. Originally my grandma ordered the French dip. But the bread was too hard for her so her and I switched plates. Thank God. Because I haven't had food poisoning that bad in a really long time and I'm so glad it was me who got it and not my 80-year-old grandmother. It was really...really bad for a few days after. I hadn't eaten anything at all leading up to that either so I know it was the culprit. Not to mention the meat was gristley and the Aujus had no flavor or salt. They really need to get it together with the seasoning. Our server was the best. Super sweet and kind, and on top of our drinks. Unfortunately it just didn't make up for how absolutely terrible the food was. In my opinion, if you're going to try this place... do it in the summer. When they are busy, going through their food and re-ordering quickly, so you don't get food poisoning. And when they aren't cutting back on what they are making their food out of...or shortening the menu...and I assume kitchen staff...to try and make it through the winter. Who can resist going to a place called the Horny Toad? Not to mention I ended up with the nickname Tobi Frog. And... a horny toad is real. It's a type of lizard. It's a whole complex with a resort, 3 or more story restaurant, floating docks for use, pool area with a swim up bar and u-shaped sofas. Boy got the Tequila Lime Shrimp Pasta. Very good, light and flavorful citrus. I went with the Toad's Wild Ride Burger. It was so juicy and cooked perfectly. You could.also taste the grill flavor. The sweet potato fries were crispy and I got buffalo sauce for dipping. We got to hear a band warming up and doing aound check They were really good. The food was phenomenal, however the service was subpar. We came to watch the finals of the ncaa march madness , and we were not seated for a while although it was completely empty. Once seated they told us they closed at 9 so we had to eat quick and finish the game elsewhere. Staff was nice and great location. But I wish they were a little more attentive. read more

Grabbed a drink and afternoon snack here after getting in town for a conference. The weather was beautiful so we sat outside on the deck and enjoyed the lake view. The google reviews for this place were really decent so decided to try it out since we we're staying in the hotel. The food was average at best. The chicken has more breading than I like... it seemed like some pieces were all breading and hardly any chicken. The wrap was dripping in sauce, a little overwhelming. The prime rib was nothing to write home about... very bland and left more to be desired. Service was slow... I overheard the table beside us complaining that extra sides were missing. My server completely forgot my drink. Otherwise the server was friendly just forgetful and not very attentive. The ambiance was okay. The view is nice but there was a weird smell and a bunch of flies inside the restaurant which was kinda gross.... $60 for an appetizer, a sandwich and a wrap. Came as a group of 6. Nice view, good ambiance but the food quality was lacking. My friends were not happy with their drinks (the martinis were not good.) Although I was happy with my peach mule. The boneless bourbon wings were the best thing we tried. The fries were cold, soggy and bland. The bourbon chicken sandwich was OK but dry. If you're staying at the Lazy Gators resort in Lake of the Ozarks, this is the place to go to for a nicer meal or drink. There's not a whole lot within walking distance, but here you can get a sit down breakfast lunch or dinner. Over the weekend I spent at Gators, I went here for breakfast twice and dinner once, and then once just for drinks. They open early at 7am, and have a nice craft beer list. Saturday night when I went they had a band playing too which was cool. Also if you're staying at the actual hotel next door this could be a good option for you. In the grand scheme of restaurants I'm sure it's nothing spectacular, but if you're staying here it's your best option and worth going to, as evidenced by me stopping here so often. read more

Came here for a conference and it was clearly the off season. What is surely a wild and full resort from May - September, was quiet and serene in November. This restaurant is connected to the Camden on the Lake resort. Because it was the off season and their regular weekend breakfast buffet was no longer happening, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised! At 9:30am on a Saturday morning, I was one of only 3 guests in the dining room. One employee was handling the host and server duties but she did an excellent job. I ordered the steak and eggs plus a biscuit. The steak was properly cooked to order (med rare) and had a delicious herbed butter on top. The biscuit was flaky and wonderful. And the eggs were properly cooked as well. I asked for over medium and they were perfect. The price point was a little high (with tip it was $24)...but that's to be expected at a resort restaurant. I really enjoyed this meal and would absolutely visit here again. read more

What horrible management can be found at this bar and grill!!! As advertised on Facebook and more importantly the scrolling digital sign in THEIR parking lot, was advertised happy hour specials M-TH from 4-7, our group was lured in. The specials advertised half price drinks and appetizers. We were the only customers in the place. A very nice waiter came to the table and we wanted to know what the appetizers were. He proceeded to tell us the specials were only good on Wednesday's. We told him about the sign in the parking lot and he said he told management to change it a month ago and it hadn't been done. We asked to talk to the manager. This is the point the downward spiral began. She wanted to know where we had found the special online. We told her but pointed out the special was shown on the sign on the restaurant property. She told us she was new to management and needed to speak to her manager. Instead of her coming back to our table to tell us the best they could do was $2 off a draft beer or glass of wine, she sends the waiter back out. We asked again for the manager and explained we wanted the special advertised. When she would not honor the happy hour special, we said we were leaving. The manager tirade then began. The manager began telling us SHE had never been so disrespected by customers and even went so as far as to physically point at two of us and state we had been very rude to her. Never had any of us been treated by management in this manner. We went out of our way to make sure the waiter knew this was not in anyway his fault. I think we all know that a Facebook post and an electronic sign can be changed in a minute. As we were leaving we heard a bartender comment," They are leaving?". And yes....there were still no other customers at the bar and grill. We will never darken the door to this establishment and would never recommend it to anyone. We asked the manager if this the story she wanted us to tell how the restaurant didn't stand behind their own advertising and the answer was obviously yes. A friend ordered a specialty Caribbean screwdriver and it was clearly well vodka (supposed to be rum) and oj (supposed to be different juices. The bathrooms were also filthy still at 10am. A waitress finally came to our table and I asked if we could move to a table in the shade. She said yes. We sat at a table for half an hour with the waitresses giving us dirty looks. 3 1/2 stars, actually. On a Saturday afternoon in late February, this place seemed cavernous. If I could yodel, it probably would still be echoing off the walls. I can imagine it's a real hot spot in season, though. It does have a great view of the lake, which is a real plus. The service was very good, which it should be as empty as the restaurant was. Brayden (who looks about twelve) was attentive without being annoying, while being charming and funny. My first choice for beer was tapped out. We found that out when the bartender tried to pour one and got nothing but heartbreak, and a little bit of gas from the tap. Second choice was a seasonal inspired by the KC Chiefs Big Game appearance a couple of weeks earlier. It was a bit pricey for a beer that tasted mostly of bitter tears, but hey, that's life. Sandwiches were great. The Buffalo chicken sandwich was cooked perfectly, had a pleasantly surprising amount of heat in the sauce, and the fries were crisp with just the right amount of salt. My wife's bourbon chicken sandwich was very tasty, although there wasn't any discernible bourbon flavor, and her sweet potato fries were outstanding. One beer, one Dr. Pepper, two sandwiches and sides came to $46 with tip. One star off for price and the limited menu. A half-star off for not having the beer I wanted. read more
