The finish is great, the details are great and so far seems to play very well. I am looking forward to spending time with this instrument and I think a fantastic value for the money. The owner, Ivan, is very proactive and called me twice and emails every few days to ensure I know the status. The unboxing was a good experience, it's very beautiful cocobolo rosewood (Nicaragua) with a cedar soundboard (Canada). Unfortunately, there were several places along the fretboard edge where the gloss lacquer was chipped off. I was given several options by Pinol, including a refund, an exchange, or repair. I ultimately chose not to send it back, and to sand it myself with instructions and financial help from Pinol for labor and materials. Don't let this deter you, the other 99% of the uke is beautiful, excellent fit and finish. Ok, it looks great, but how does it sound? I've been playing it quite a bit the past two days, and I absolutely love the sound. I put new strings on - Italia Aquila Red brand with low wound G - and they really seemed to have made the sound pop. I was thinking, how could it be singing so well? I covered the little sound hole on the side to see if that was projecting something I wasn't used to hearing, but it sounded the same either way. I pulled some of my other tenors out and did a sound comparison: Kanilea, Koaloha, and Martin 2K (all of them solid koa). In my opinion, the Pinol held its own and even sounded richer than some others. I inspected the inside bracing and construction and notice they use some hefty materials, which I can only assume helps with the projection and richness. Also, I'm thinking the combination of cocobolo rosewood and the softer cedar soundboard compliment each other very well. Quality instrument and caring seller. I recommend them and will consider more Pinol instruments in the future.

But I completely understood since the guitars are hanging on small hooks and could easily fall out of a customer's hands. The staff took me on a short tour of the acoustic guitars with brief guidance of their pricing, sound and quality. The guitar pricing ranged $400 to several thousand depending on the brand, appearance and structural integrity. Penny Lane offers lifetime warranties on select guitars and provide in-house repairs. Aside from musical string instrument sales they offer lessons from professional instructors but its not cheap. The one hour private lesson is $180.00 or a discounted four sessions of lessons for $550.00. I have experience with the electric rock n' roll guitars from the 1980s but thought it would be a change of scenery to purchase an acoustic guitar and learn the chords the right way. I highly recommend SoFlo Music School to experienced players and first time players, including…read moreyoungsters. My wife Erica and I take music lessons at SoFlo every Saturday morning. We are in our sixties and have seen students as young as four years old. They tailor the lessons to the individual student no matter the age or experience level. What really makes SoFlo special is the fun atmosphere. The place just has an upbeat vibe. You can tell that the students and the teachers enjoy being there. Our instructor, Lauren (who co-owns the business), pushes each of us to play more challenging songs, but keeps it fun and interesting by working on songs that we like and want to learn how to play. The evening student recitals are fun. (I don't know who enjoys them more, the kids or the parents. - LOL) SoFlo is the music school for anyone looking for a nice clean safe facility, especially for first time students. For what it's worth I have seen kids start taking lessons and then a few months down the road see that their mom or dad are taking lessons too. It's just that kind of place.

I should have know he was terrible, when he asked me to inspect the guitar outside in his porch, I gave him the benefit of the doubt as these old timers sometimes are good techs. Conversation is attached as well as the pics from before and after. I have also to provide context as he said in person he could get me to 98% there, and I was dumb enough to believe him. he said it would be done in a week. and gave me a hand written paper with the serial of the guitar mistakenly on it. The next WEEKS, were a combination of I need more days, I am sick, the dog ate the guitar and so on. After asking for several updates, he said the shape was 100% and color 80%? Please see the pictures, he is either a scammer or color blind. Also he did not mentioned that he messed up the binding and over grinded the guitar right next to the area. When I picked up the guitar he was unapologetic, he said he would not charge me but I needed to go elsewhere for a repair. I did tip him 45 bucks and left before I started seeing red. I asked him to pay for the repair at another tech and he agreed, when I asked him for approval from a quote from another tech for 25 more dollars than he was charging me, he said he would pay and called me an extortionist. blocked straight away, run do not even think about bringing your instruments here if you care about them.

Not only was he able to install a new string, but he also took the time to assess my guitar, polish the wood, and treat the instrument as if it were his own. His craftsmanship is impeccable, and Greg himself is personable, proficient, and professional. He promised simply to repair the string, but he went above and beyond in every respect.
