The staff was nice and gave us a few recommendations, which were super helpful since it was our first time there. The café itself is pretty small, with limited indoor seating and a few tables outside. There was an organized queue to get in and order, but it moved pretty quickly, so the wait wasn't bad at all. Everything was good, but I can't say it was the best coffee or pastries I've ever had. Maybe my expectations were just too high because of all the hype, but I was definitely expecting a little more.

My best guess is that it's just the English muffin wasn't as sturdy as I'm used to and I'm used to it that way. The peas a la salt came over sourdough bread with bacon, black pudding and a poached egg. Same as the Bennedict, it was all yummy, but not amazing. The peas were very far from mushy (which is good), but maybe could have been a bit firmer. Things just didn't quite come together the way I would have hoped.

We swung through Edinburgh and visited the larger location... met the owner who explained the passion that he and his wife have for baking, and for "doing it right"! This passion translated into the variety of products they bake on site as well as those that they carry because they acknowledge that there are other artisans that can produce some superior products to their ability. They bring in loaves or bread and naan bread, and bake all the sweets. My wife and kids proceeded to by over $75 worth of sweets (donuts, cupcakes, brownies and cookie sandwiches) which they had tried before as well as loaves of bread, and multiple packs of naan bread based on the owner's endorsement of them. Unlike my wife and kids, I can eat anything... and do! And I have a sweet tooth like no other, and will frequent a variety of bakers wherever I go. Based on their enthusiasm, I decided to order a pumpkin cookie sandwich (pumpkin cookies with sweet frosting in the center). I didn't ask for one of each of the other things for myself, because frankly, I was a bit skeptical. Let me tell you that cookie sandwich compared to ANY product I've eaten at a gourmet patisserie or restaurant! Over the past three days, it's been my turn to lament as I have watched them eating those incredible sweets each day as we come back from sightseeing and going to shows in London. We can't recommend Sugar Daddy's enough... and have a standing offer to open up a franchise in VA! We LOVE Sugar Daddy's.. oh and by the way... the Roseneath location is open every day!

I ended up opting for a mozzarella panini with rocket (arugula) and tomato. It came with a little salad on the side and I ordered an Irn-Bru to drink. I took it to-go and really enjoyed everything that I got! I ended up coming back a couple of more times for food for myself and with friends since it was so conveniently located. This isn't the first time it has happened. I have only been at this cafe for a little over an hour and the staff have told no less than 4 different people, including myself, that they were not allowed to sit at the 4 person table if they were just a single or couple and to save it for larger parties. Well, I understand that but each of the people they have told have already sat down at the table, gotten comfortable, had their drinks and were chatting. I mean, really? Is it that important? And they only have one 4-person table and then about 8-10 2-person tables, so it's kind of their own fault for setting it up that way in their shop. Especially when all the tables are crammed together so tight, its no wonder why 2 people would want to sit at the 4-person table. Also, I was using the internet there to do some work and every time the staff walked by they eyed my drink, waiting for me to finish it. Then the second I was finished they inquired if I would like anything else. I told them no thank you and then they cleared my cup. After that point I felt like I had overstayed my welcome because apparently their only goal here is to have a bunch of empty tables, so if they get a rush of some sort, then all the 30 people that come in at one time will be able to sit down... Instead they just seem to be scaring out the customers. I was really upset by this because I live nearby and was genuinely hoping that it would be a good place to work at since I work from home and like to pop into cafes for the change of scenery. Unfortunately this was a bad experience. I mean, perhaps their food is good as the other reviewer states, but I didn't try any of it, just had tea, which you can't really mess up on.
