Jerk chicken and jerk salmon combo plate
    Linda M.

I've heard about Back A Yard from everyone around me for awhile. Finally stopped in on a random weeknight for dinner. They have some spots in their parking lot, but I imagine can get crowded. It's a no frills place, which I like. I'm here for the food, not the ambiance. We ordered at the counter and they brought us our food. We got the jerk chicken and jerk salmon combo which came with plantains and rice. Everything was good, we split the plate between two people and were full. We did just come from having dessert though so maybe next time we'll get our own plates. Super flavorful, chicken was juicy. Plantains were definitely a highlight.

Came here for dinner with a few friends on Saturday. It's one of our friends' favorite. We ordered at the counter, and they brought out the food in to-go containers to our table, even though we're eating there. They're quite busy around 7pm, but there's no wait for a table. Food came out in a reasonable time. I really wanted to try the Saturday special, ackee & codfish, on their regular menu. However, the special that night was actually escoveitch fish, which was deep-fried. Since I was trying to eat healthier, I picked the jerk chicken & jerk salmon combo instead. It came with one good sized piece of salmon, two chicken drumsticks and one chicken thigh. The meat was very flavorful. The green sauce was quite spicy and salty. The combo also came with a small container of extra sauce, which I didn't need to use. The salmon and the chicken thigh were moist and cooked well, but the drumsticks were way too dry. The plantains were caramelized well and tasty; I enjoyed them a lot. The two scoops of rice and bean mixture paired really well with the meat. Overall, it was a delicious dinner with a generous portion of meat in a friendly environment with a causal vibe.

Stopped by Back A Yard Caribbean Grill tonight around 7pm and really enjoyed the food. I ordered the jerk salmon and jerk pork combo. The flavors were on point -- bold, well-seasoned, and very satisfying. The pork was slightly on the dry side, but still tasty and not bad at all. The salmon also had great jerk flavor, though it was a little dry as well. The sides were a highlight: the plantains were delicious, and the beans and rice had great flavor. The mango hot sauce was yummy and added a nice kick, and there was an amazing garlicky chimichurri-style sauce that came with the meal that really tied everything together. Overall, solid food with great Caribbean flavors, and I'd definitely come back to try the ox tail and goat curry I noticed on the sidewalk sandwich board ad

Food was fresh Well priced Very clean Chicken was charred which I don't mind except it was also pretty dry /:

Delicious food and big portions for a reasonable price and they have daily specials too! Casual eatery with plenty of seating and all food served in takeout containers. Order at the counter and they will bring your food to you. Food was just a tad salty but flavor was great

Not good! The beef patty is probably OK, but the curried goat and oxtails are full of oil! I feel like I am drinking oil. And not to mention the fried banana! That is just soaked with oil.

Don't expect good service or a good attitude, and the worse thing here is the pre-tipping thing before you get your food. They have a pretty big menu, and the cashier was impatient with us trying to decide what to get. I tipped them 18%, and I got ZERO service, not even two water cups. The jerked items were delicious, and it came with a very spicy sauce on the side. I ordered the upside down cake, and it was not fresh, probaby the nastiest cake I ever had.

Super good Jamaican food! The jerk chicken is juicy with the perfect amount of seasoning and goes perfectly with the rice and plantains. Food comes out quickly!

Great Caribbean chain in the South Bay Area! Whenever I'm craving Caribbean food, I often turn to Back A Yard because they offer delicious dishes at great prices. I like to get their Beef Oxtail bowl which includes tender pieces of oxtail, rice, beans, and delicious plantains. The oxtail and plantains are cooked perfectly and I love the sauce that cames with the bowl. Each time I've visited, I've gotten takeout, which I feel like is pretty common since it is very much a no frills spot. Definitely will be back sometime to try other items on their menu!

This is a cute Jamaican restaurant that was introduced to us by some friends . They hosted a party at one of the locations and had great food options like jerk chicken , tofu , and rice with kidney beans . On the recent visit we ordered the coconut curried tofu and jerk chicken. Both were delicious . The ambiance is more informal . For service you order food at the cashier and you pick up your food at the counter . The staff is friendly .

First time here and I loved it. I had the half chicken, half pork combo. Was considering the goat, but when I asked if it was fatty or lean, they said a little of both. Didn't want to take the chance my first time, so went with the standby proteins. Food was very tasty and a good portion size for dinner, with one thigh, one drumstick, and a portion of cut/sliced pork. Plantains were nicely done too and pleasantly and naturally sweet. We ate here. It's a casual setting and can get loud when a lot of people are here. I'd imagine a lot of people get take out, but it was fine to eat here and tables were kept clean. The sauce was a nice balance of spicy but not too spicy. I'm looking forward to getting take out and letting the rest of my family try this out!

Back A Yard is one of those places I've known of and thought about going to for years, but just never got around to it, that is until now! I called ahead to pick up food to go for lunch, to my delight they said it would be ready in about 10 minutes, and sure enough it was! I got the jerk chicken and beef oxtails combo, which had a few oxtails, a chicken wing and thigh, rice with beans mixed in, plantains, and a green sauce that seemed similar to a chimichurri. The flavor of everything was great! Though there was a nice spice to the jerk, it wasn't overly spicy and the sweetness of the plantains helped to mellow out the heat in between bites. The chicken was cooked just about perfect and I would definitely get again. Docked a star because the oxtails were about 80% fat, I think I only got one bite that was all meat. The portion was hearty and even after giving away a few bites, I was stuffed when I finished. Would definitely come back here, but would skip the oxtail and try the pork next time.

Friend brought me here for dinner on a Friday night after pickleball. Pretty straightforward menu and I ended up getting the oxtail plate. Price: average for South Bay, $19 with tax. Ordering: order at front and find a table after, they will bring to you. Crowd: lots of seating and while not empty, not particularly crowded either. Food: the oxtail was so tender and was very yummy. the rice was a tad too soft for my preference, but ok. the fried plantains were super yummy and very sweet which was a nice switch up. Overall it was good, but I think the textures were too soft, I needed something else that had a firmer texture. In general though, I would come back after a pickleball session due to proximity to the Hub, plus no crowds and service was fast.

Unfortunately I do not remember what I had...except for one that had "absinthe" which was obviously the fake American version of it. Each cocktail has a very thorough description so you can pick and choose to your liking. Every cocktail was about $17 each. Which is pricey! but that's how it is these days. But you should be assured the quality here is real good. I had to dock 1 star for the interesting choice of leaving the emergency door ajar all night the time i went. While it did help with the steamy temps inside, wow did it ruin the night for those who sit close to the door! It was very cold and windy so maybe leaving it too open was an uninformed choice. Parking is tricky, it's mostly street. There's some residential areas you can park at if you don't mind walking farther. Definitely going back, but a little farther away from the door next time.

The crab was very fresh and each crostini had a large portion of crab on top. The Brussels sprouts were very crispy and very umami with the cheese and bacon combination mixed in. The empanada was honestly a showstopper. I don't know how to describe it other than you have to try it. Both pastas were good but I prefer the mushroom one over the short rib ragu. The halibut was also good, and the basil sauce made it even better. I was already super impressed with everything but I think the stars were the 2 desserts. The Dubai cheesecake was an Italian style cheesecake, so it was a lot lighter than I was expecting (which was welcomed) and captured the essence of Dubai chocolate without being too overwhelming. The Lira in Wonderland was also SO good. It had a crown of cotton candy and was a mix of biscoff cookies, dehydrated red velvet cake (don't knock it till you try it), butterscotch sauce, and strawberries. I was honestly blown away by this meal.

This was supposed to be a special birthday dinner date that my husband meticulously planned for me,…read morebut it turned into the most horrendous dining experience I've ever had. We dined at Lira on November 14th. The Service (or Lack Thereof): The Menu Shortage: We arrived for our 6:45 PM reservation only to be told by the manager that they didn't have enough menus. We were told they'd bring them "later." Ignored for 35+ Minutes: We sat with nothing but water for over half an hour. To make matters worse, a table of six was seated after us and received their full entrees while we were completely ignored. The Drink Mess: After 40 minutes, the server told me they were out of ingredients for my drink. When I picked a second option, she tried to insist I wanted a drink with celery (my most despised vegetable). We thankfully stopped her before it was made, but the incompetence was staggering. The Food Fiasco: An hour into our reservation, someone dropped off a scallop dish. A while later, a server asked if I'd "received the scallops yet," and I realized the plate I was eating wasn't even intended for our table. We were so starving that my husband and I just shared them. Once we finished, the server finally asked my husband if he "still wanted his meal or if he wanted to cancel it." I finally lost my cool - of course he still wanted his dinner! The Aftermath: My husband didn't realize that my friends had actually made a separate reservation to take me back to this same spot the following night for a second birthday celebration. After this performance, there was no way I was going to step foot in this building again or give them another cent of our money. I texted my friends from the table to cancel those reservations and book elsewhere. With service this disorganized and insulting, this restaurant won't be in business long. Super disappointing. Don't waste your special occasions here. *Edit - it looks like Lira has closed. With the service we experienced, I am not surprised in the slightest. I am hopeful that whichever future business occupies this space is more successful.

The cinnamon roll pancakes were insane, fluffy, and topped with a cream that made it feel like dessert in the best way. The KFC (Korean fried chicken) was perfectly crispy with so much flavor, and paired so well with the sauce. We also got the BBB (bacon, bread & butter), and the bacon alone was unreal thick, caramelized, and honestly one of the best parts of the whole meal. The tater tot poutine was pure comfort food but a bit overwhelming with the amount of gravy and cheese making everything much soggier than I liked. I'd definitely leave that dish behind next time. The spicy noodle dish with the jammy egg and chili oil sauce was also a hit. It was simple but packed with flavor and had just the right amount of heat for a good appetizer. We also got a jug of mimosas (strawberry guava + passion fruit mango), which were so good--light, refreshing, and perfect for brunch. The vibe was lively but still cozy enough to sit and actually enjoy your time. Overall, everything felt really intentional from the flavors to the presentation.
