It was a little busy but the waitress went missing several times, she did have large parties, the person who brought out our food didn't bring ranch with chicken wings you have to have ranch. Got the grits which are always banging. I miss the aquariums they had. The interior is not what you expect. You can't really hear the music. The bar is super loud but that's to be expected. If you do come go early or later never peak times. I think it could use some updating. read more

Busy place with parking lot and parking across the street. Friendly service and good food. My buddies had the ribeye steak with mashed potatoes and another had the Calabash Shrimp with fries. I had the blackened grouper with asparagus. The calabash shrimp is HUGE! Better be hungry or split it with someone. The steaks are on the thin side but were both cooked perfectly and was told they were delicious. They also raved about the mashed potatoes being delicious. My grouper portion was decent sized for the price and was cooked perfectly and was delicious too. Same with the asparagus. I'd recommend it for a great dinner. Expect to spend $25-$50, on the higher end if you get drinks and an appetizer. read more

Shuckers is back as Back 2 Shuckers. We dined in for dinner on a Wednesday night and it was slammed because it's the night for their steam specials. Luckily we had no issues being seated at the bar and parking out front. We started off with a round of drinks (a beer for me and the Dark and Stormy for him) and the crab dip. For our meals it was the coriander crusted mahi with grits and veggies for me and the grouper with potatoes and veggies for my husband. The crab dip was so good. I thought that my fish was just okay but the grouper was good. It's worth a visit if you are in OKI. read more

This must have been a very off night for the kitchen! My Calabash-style seafood arrived to the table swimming in grease. The flounder filet, when I broke off a piece, was still saturated in fryer oil, an indication that the oil must have not been hot enough to fry properly when it was first dropped. The shrimp (definitely the miniature, frozen variety) had been pre-fried and a second trip could not revive them, nor the spongy, flavorless hush puppies. Normally, I love hush puppies enough to enjoy them cold, but even these warmed ones did not merit a second bite. My entire meal was a disappointment and not worth a take home plate, though my daughter had better luck with her tuna steak. She said it was delicious as always, even if it was served grilled rather than blackened (as ordered). The garden salad she enjoyed was also tasty and fresh, served with a cucumber-wasabi dressing made popular in this establishment and its predecessor. We also had excellent service provided by the waitstaff and kitchen, something I am always pleased to see even if the meal is lacking. Sadly, after this visit, I feel I must downgrade my previously glowing 5 star rating to a lackluster 2 stars. This hurts particularly because Back 2 Shuckers as well as its previous iteration, Turtle Island, have been the can't-miss dining experience during each of our visits to OKI. I hope that this was just an outlier, and I would love the opportunity to enjoy another lovely meal here as in years past. For now, it will need to be Back 2 Somewhere Else :-/ read more

Waited an hour for food at the bar while other parties that came after us were served and bussed around us. The waitress tried to blame it on the tourists and a large party (that had been served before we put our order in). We also overheard some racist comments (spoken in assumed confidence with a regular, but loud enough for the bar to notice), which sours my experience, the food was decent but expensive and not worth the wait. I wish I had better things to say because I truly wanted to love this little local dive-esque restaurant & bar, but this is one of the rare occasions where we were on the verge of walking out multiple times. read more

I stopped in here tonight for dinner cause everywhere else was on a long wait. The hostess was very nice and I had a seat at the bar. The bar seating was very comfortable and I ordered a Bloody Mary (which was delicious). The bartender was very nice, too. I ordered a dozen clams and 1/2 pound of shrimp. Both were great! The side salad was also good with adds fruit on it. This is just a chill place if you are loping for something more fancy. read more

I took a party of 5 adults and 2 children,(7&4), on a Thursday evening. We had a great experience. The service was friendly and attentive. We ordered a variety of food. Oysters on the half shell, delicious and fresh. The 7 year old had his first oyster and after making a pretty funny face opted for another. My mother, 100 years old and only eats shrimp cooked "extra crispy". She was accommodated and gave the fried shrimp, kid's plate a thumbs up. The rest of our party had a variety of drinks and entrees and all was good. The atmosphere was loud but as certain groups of diners left it got quieter and more comfortable. We ate here while on a quick few days away. It was a a regular all-you-care-to-eat seafood night. We ordered two sets of crab legs, one of which had empty legs, and the other had minimal meat in the legs at best. We ordered two more. One came to our table 20 minutes later. The claw meat peeled apart like string cheese. The leg meat was limp like spaghetti. One sniff was overpowering with spoilage... the waitress apologized when we asked her to smell the food. Had we eaten it, we would have been needing a doctor's care. I didn't eat for the next 24 hrs. First, thanks to you and your dedicated staff for being open during TS Debby! We came for Steamers night on Wednesday, based on a recommendation from a local friend. Dinner was great! Clam chowder was flavorful, as was She Crab soup! Steamed shrimp were large and tender, perfectly cooked. We also had wings and crab legs which were yummy, esp for a great price! We can't say enough nice things about our server, Mindy! She was kind, polite, friendly and attentive! She was super quick to respond to any of our requests for extra sauces, etc and kept our drinks coming during the whole dinner! Myself and my family were the biggest fans of Turtle Island so when we found out they were changing ownership and changing their name, we were a little apprehensive. I will tell you that we were pleasantly surprised! Have no fear Tini lovers, our favorite bartender Willie is still going strong slinging the best dirty vodka martini on the island. They still have the fried baby flounder which is amazing. The scallops stayed consistent and delicious. The side salad is the same with the original Cusabi dressing (YUM). The menu has changed slightly and I was really intrigued to see a Jack Daniels Chicken dish and a Blackberry Hoisin Pork Chop added to the menu. We arrived about 7:30 on a Thursday night. They only had one large group waiting. We walked right in. Took a bit for someone to take our drink order. We ordered the crab dip. The price point is pretty high for an appetizer. It was tasty, but expensive. Love the bread thst comes with it. I had the stuffed flounder. Lots of breading and fish was a little dry. Will definitely be returning! I am not a seafood lover, but my guy is. He got the Calabash with three seafood choices (he got fried shrimp, fried flounder, and deviled crab). He says the shrimp and flounder were great, but the deviled crab wasn't the best he's ever had. I got the Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken. The chicken was tender and flavorful and the Caesar dressing was good, not too much or too dry. We had Marcus as our server and he made sure our tea glasses stayed full even though he was pretty busy. The hostess was friendly and greeted us with a smile, seating us right away and even made it a point to say bye when we left! I so wanted to like this place. Turtle Island was consistently good, never had a bad meal, and recommended it to everyone looking for fresh seafood. I stated this because they've been pushing Turtle Island as part of their marketing. "Same staff, same great food..." This new version of Turtle Island is absolutely not the same caliber and the prices were much higher. Raw oysters were good, but that's the only item we had that I can recommend. We also ordered steamed oysters which had the consistency of chewing gum. Not even edible. Finally, we tried a pound of steamed crab legs, absolutely the worst I've ever had. They were complete mush and tasted like they had been boiled for hours. Having been an almost weekly guest to Turtle Island, this was a serious let down.
