Too many times while he was growing up did his uncle show up and head off to Hawks games with his dad leaving a very, very unhappy young man with his mom. Thanks Amy, you're a saint! Well B is now old enough that we can't do that anymore and now have taken him to a few games. B has also been playing hockey for a few years now and at the age of 10 is one heck of a skater. He loves to play and this weekend he actually didn't have a game so we went to the local outdoor rink to play. After a few hours my brother asked if we could stop of Gunzo's to get his skate's sharpened and to get some other items for his team. I was thrilled to go as I grew up going to this place and haven't been here in over 20 years. Walking in the place is decked out in Hawks items. They also have plenty of skates, stick and equipment. Going back here brought back all sorts of great memories of my youth. While my brother and nephew were getting some items I took the opportunity to look around at all the other items they had for sale. With Christmas and birthday's our budget was running a bit tight however I accept full responsibility for giving into my temptation to purchase an old school banner from the old Stadium. Too many great memories from that old barn and I just had to add that to our Hawks themed man cave. After all if we can't make it to all the Hawks games at least we can make the area that we watch them seem like home.

I missed last years event but was able to attend this year. I arrived a little early so I could get a nice standing spot up front. There were so many people from children to adults waiting on Mr. Claus himself to arrive my Helicopter. There were activities for the kids to enjoy. There was a free hot chocolate stand set up. Face painting, and free activities for kids. If you spent $25 or more purchase from any merchant store at Winston Plaza. You were able to get a free photo with Santa. The kickoff started at noon and Mr. & Mrs. Claus landed safely and in fashion. This was a epic experience for the family.

One has to drive through a busy street/intersection to get to the other stores within this plaza. This is my con. Winston plaza is located in Melrose Park and has its own street name (1254 Winston Plaza, 60160). http://winston-plaza.com/home Yesterday, there was an outdoor play area and there was a Christmas tree still up. My daughter passed on the play area because there's still snow on it. I felt she was too grown to play on it anyway. Even if she wanted to, it would've entertained her for a few minutes. The play area, in my opinion, is for under 3 years old. Another con. Free concerts and family events are thrown here. According to opentable.com , there's 39 restaurants to dine in around the area. 2 stars because I had to drive around the area to get to certain stores and face weather conditions instead of being indoors for my daughter to roam around and less risk of being sick.

This strip mall is definitely lacking. All chain stores and no local businesses. Bad suburban wear…read morelike Chico's, The Loft and Tilly's. The Whole Foods is the smallest Whole Foods in Illinois, so be prepared not to find many of items that you may find at other WF's locations. Why they didn't expand when Coconuts left the space next door, I don't know. I'm told it's due to lack of revenue. In RFOP I doubt that's the case, but maybe if they expanded and were able to keep good inventory in stock they would have better revenue. Then there's the the River Forest Town Center's abominable parking. I myself avoid going until I absolutely have to because I don't want to deal with that parking lot. I have not only witnessed many fender benders here, but I myself was hit by a woman with small children in a minivan who decided she didn't need to stop when driving down an aisle & approaching the main drive in front of the Whole Foods. THAT section of the town center is the absolute worst. Prepare for aggravation should you be going to Walgreens, Petco, Whole Foods, or Ulta in the East lot, OR if you're going to Panera in the West lot. The parkers here are just down right jerks. They ignore the stop signs, they take two or more parking spaces, and the best is when they pull up to the curb and throw on the hazards in front of the Starbucks which is located right at the exit feed to Harlem. Really, you can't be bothered to park 15 feet away in an actual space to get your macchiato? Then there's those "no left turn" entrances into the town center: one on Harlem, two on Lake street. Of course I see many disobeying those signs and turning left into those entrances. The best is those waiting turning left at the "no left turn" entrance on Harlem North bound. They're not only crossing a double yellow, but they're holding up all North bound traffic, especially those trying to turn left at an intersection that's already a cf. Just brilliant, people! Another personal favorite was me sitting with my turn signal on for a space near WF's while a car exited a space. A man with a "Coexist" bumpersticker on his car came from behind the car that just exited and pulled right into the space that I was waiting on. That guy is hardly, "coexisting", he's clearly in his own world. I've also seen other thoughtless 'space-jackers' weasel in on other patiently waiting parkers. What is it about this lot!? I know this stuff happens in parking lots all over, but this is just the absolute worst I've seen. I've had easier parking experiences in smaller downtown Chicago lots. If you're going anywhere near the stores I mentioned at the River Forest Town Center, do yourself a favor and park as far away as possible.

There was stuff thrown everywhere and we glanced around and waked out. Fast forward to now. I had bought some things at the Broadview store and just needed to make a quick return. I figured, "Well, this one is closer." Came in here to make the return and it was fine. There were a few things I wanted to find to see if they what I returned in a different size. We figured, "What the heck" and looked around. My opinion is better now of this location. Maybe they saw some of the negative reviews and cleaned up their act? I dunno. I tend to think many of these discount stores can get crazy and messy later in the day. My advice would be to come when they open. (Ironically, we did come later in the evening and I was expecting the worst. Was pleasantly surprised at how organized it was!) My husband's favorite find was a pair of running shoes for $40. I found a bunch of random black blouses to go with pants I already have. Either way, I did end up finding some great stuff and it was not disorganized at all. I will give it another chance - but as not to dash my hopes - will probably come in early when they open!
