I never gave children's stores much attention before the birth of my (ridiculously handsome) baby…read moreson, but after he was born, I became intimately acquainted with how expensive kids can be. Fortunately, places like Pinwheels help take the edge off of clothing and entertaining the little guy! Clothing, shoes, accessories, toys, books, games, strollers, swings: it's all here! And it's all a bargain! Lightly used? Just about everything seems about as close to brand new as possible; *I'd* certainly never know the difference. There's even a "diaper depot" (as I like to call it anyway): a drop box where you can donate extra diapers you no longer need, so that others less fortunate can take them for free; a heartwarming touch that immediately endeared me to this place. The owner is a vibrant, wonderful woman who immediately engaged us upon entering, and make the whole experience a true pleasure. And she has an eye for style, quality, and most important in a resale shop: cleanliness! We bought a pair of shoes and a few toys this time around, but I foresee many return visits to Pinwheels, and not just to re-sell the clothes my son outgrows. I'd rather shop here for his needs than any big box store in the Portland area.

What better thing to do than support small local businesses? That, and I felt like I did not pack…read moreenough clothes for my kiddos this trip (excuse this tired mama), so I was on the hunt for some cute clothing. I always have one caveat for consignment stores: must have friendly and helpful staff - after all, you Are asking people to buy (mostly) secondhand/used items. I popped in here 15 min before closing on a weekday and half expected the employees to grumble at me while they were trying to close the store. I found quite a number of items that I thought were "steals" for my kiddos. I would've loved more clothing options for my little ones, esp baby boys, but hey, we can't have it all. I would def recommend coming here.

Although it is primarily a consignment children's clothing store, you'll also find no shortage of wonderful, analog toys to plant the seeds of imagination in your little ones, in the hope that they'll sprout into clever, intelligent, fully-functioning, not-screen-addicted adults! This must be a conscious choice, because I could find nary an electronic device anywhere in the shop! Big kudos from me on that point alone! As for the clothing, let's just say, you're spoilt for choice. While some of the items are a little on the pricier side than I would like for a consignment shop, the quality of the clothing here is impeccable: clean, well-organized, and a healthy variety of sizes and styles. Everything you could need for any age, from newborn and toddler, up through the early grade school years: shirts, pants, dresses, hats, coats, shoes (TONS of shoes!), costumes, and all sorts of accessories! There's also a small selection of baby stuff in the back, including cribs, swings, and a host of different devices that I have no clue as to their function, but will assuredly be learning about them in the coming months (my wife is due next month)! In the last year, I have come to learn that shopping for a new child sucks, mostly because there is a dearth of places that have any quantity of clothing and accessories, outside of the big box stores, which I would prefer not to frequent, if possible. Thankfully, Beanstalk is here to pick up the slack, but you DO have to make an effort to get here during operating hours, particularly if you work during the week: Saturday (from 10am to 5pm) is your only real available option.

Yes, Beanstalk is a bit on the pricier side in terms of consignment stores, but I did find a number of goodies for each of my kiddos from PJ's to swim wear to toys. I loved the shoes, rain boots, and rain gear selection they had and lots of Hanna Anderson, Columbia, and like clothing. Friendly staff. I would def recommend a stop here. *Street parking

There was a degraded 3 piece kitchen set the was apparently "195 for one piece, 395 for two piece." When we asked about it being a 3 piece set, the clerk's response was "yea.." Speaking of the clerk, she was on her phone talking about Snapchat drama the entire time we were in the shop and kept avoiding eye contact. When we asked about a really cool kitchen set behind the counter (that was listed online), she stayed on the phone with her friend and was clearly inconvenienced with our question. It wasn't until we came up for checkout that she told her friend that "sorry I'll be right back, it's really busy" when we were the only ones in the store. As she was ringing us up, my wife found some pretty bows and asked if she could get them as well after she'd already told us the price for the two small toys we initially came up with. We got charged 12 dollars for the 4 of them. She was back on the phone before we could even get to the door, last words we heard was "and she unadded me on Snapchat". Pretty wild hearing about the high school drama from a 45 year old!

Coupons are key to savings but even if you don't arrive with any there are some to use there and also an in store sale going on. Generally get a seasons worth of clothes in each visit. If you don't see what you want in your size the owner will pull out back stock for you to look through that is really well sorted by size, or if you are looking for off season things she can pull those too. As a consigner I tend to make about $40 every 3 months for the clothes I consign. Since the sell price is so low this may not seem like a lot but since I bought most of the clothes by now from there or received them at gifts I think I am getting a good return. I send all my momma friends there but will remember not to send my mamma friends that have the same size girls as I do the week before I go because they take all my treasures.
