If I could describe my experience at Babikyu in just one word, it would be "underwhelming." I dined here with four of my friends with high hopes that we would leave feeling full and satisfied--I mean, it's KBBQ, right? Wrong.
For the prices they charge, the sheer quantity of food that we received almost seemed like a joke. Now, coming from the U.S., I can understand that perhaps the portion sizes in Berlin may be smaller. But after eating out every night for the past week, I can say with the utmost certainty that that is not the case, and Babikyu is an outlier.
We ordered five meats in total (3 kalbi, 2 pork belly) off the BBQ menu--each costing about 20€, roughly the price you'd pay per person at an AYCE KBBQ spot in the U.S.--and, when asked, our waitress even assured us that the food would be more than enough. Boy was she wrong, and boy were we disillusioned by what was presented to us soon after.
You'd think I'm exaggerating when I tell you this, but I promise you I'm not: the food was probably enough for two people, if that. I could count the pieces of meat on the fingers of my hands, and to make matters worse, the food was nothing special.
Big numbers and small portion sizes? No thanks. Not sure about you, but I don't like leaving restaurants on an empty stomach. The service, however, was good, hence the 2 star rating. read more
