    Thousand layered rainbow mooncakes
    Jackie K.

A double update. 10/9/25- I ordered and picked up ten rainbow layered mooncakes for my Dad's birthday! I also picked up a cinnamon bun and more. Everything was delicious and freshly baked! I had a few extra mooncakes that I shared with friends! Service is always with a smile here. Sadly the mooncakes are seasonal! 5/5 stars. 11/2/25 update: I went to the Mom Made Market at Kahala Mall with Yelp Elite and All Star buddy Irene M. Babe's Bakery had a table at the Market. Fresh baked sourdough bread was just delivered and we both picked up a loaf. So many people were there buying the baked goods. It was crowded and noisy lol. At home, I toasted and buttered a slice of this gorgeous bread. I added fresh sliced avocado and tuna with celery, capers and a little mayonnaise on top of the toasted sourdough! Absolutely knockout delicious! The bread was flavorful, crunchy crust and chewy goodness all at the same time! Epic lunch here. Highly recommend picking up a loaf of the sourdough bread! Next up, I'll pick up tomato soup and I'll toast a slice of the sourdough bread to dip in the soup! Salivating? Yum!

I was looking for freshly made sourdough bread and stumbled upon this bakery. The staff was really nice and helpful when I asked about their baked items. I initially came here for sourdough bread, but I ended up getting my bread, focaccia bread, tiramisu, chocolate chip cookie and a sourdough cinnamon roll. I'm going to try the sourdough bread and focaccia bread later, but the cinnamon roll was absolutely delicious! It had the perfect amount of sweetness and the roll itself was soft in the inside and had a nice slightly crusty exterior. The tiramisu was also delicious, and had the perfect amount of sweetness to it. I'm definitely going to come back for other baked items and more sourdough bread.

One of my Yelpie friends got me this colorful moon cake as she calls it. It was colorful on the outside with lot of layers and shaped like an egg. It was so good. Inside was a salted egg yolk with a thin layer of red bean paste covering it. Then, it was surrounded by the beautiful colored layered shell on the outside. I would go and get some myself, but was told that it's seasonal only for the mid autumn festival.

I was reading Yelp Elites Jo Y & Rod's reviews before I arrived. I had to buy and try what they mentioned. Prolific Yelp All Star Elite Jackie K and I planned to meet here today, 9-18-2025 and I wanted to be prepared. There's two rows of limited parking in the front at a shared lot and I saw a couple of stalls on the side/ back of their shop. If you're not a Townie like me, it's on the corner of St. Louis Drive and Waialae. I couldn't see the shop from the street based on the Yelp directions. Look for Von's Chicken and Nola Cafe- turn in there. It's amazing how the husband and wife team and one visible employee have a well run bakery with items in their display cases, cold bottled beverages, cookies on another wall of shelving and made to order coffee. We witnessed sour dough loaves being prepped in rattan baskets, always busily working on something. Jackie and I bought the cutest mini rainbow moon cakes and traditional tiny moon cakes in the perfect gift giving containers plus other things like chippy cookies and more to eat there. The seating inside is for the rare customers who come to catch up and share stories like we did. Other customers entered, picked up their goodies and left. It's very quiet in there. I'm sure they could overhear everything we talked about from our health, trips, airport delays, food and more. Thanks Jackie for suggesting to meet up here and giving me the run down of what was limited and introducing me to the owners. I'm going to taste all the items I bought to take home with the intention to share with hubs. See the photo with jack lantern Kuromi what I bought.

I love Babes Bakery! The haupia poi banana bread is so delicious! I don't normally like banana bread but someone got it for the group. I didn't try it at first but was going to take some home for my husband. I realized it said haupia poi and it just sounded so interesting so I decided to try it just to see. Im so glad I did! It was so moist and tasted really good. It's not too sweet but just perfect. I went back as soon as I could to get some for the rest of my family to try. Everyone loved it. The owners are so sweet as well! Everything is fresh and it was still hot when we bought it. I love it and will come back for more banana bread and to try some of their other creations that look amazing as well :)

On the corner of Waialae Avenue and St. Louis Heights, it is where Kuhio Grill relocated briefly before shutting down around the pandemic. This is a small, local owned business - the owners are a nice couple. I first visited on a recommendation. Entry is from Waialae Ave. but there are also stalls accesible via St. Louis Ht...where Nola Cafe is situated. Babes Bakery is a fairly new business that I've only visited twice. I believe they are known for their cookies, sourdough breads, and PHB (Poi, Haupia, Banana) Bread. Cookies vary in texture from soft-n-crunchy to crisp & crunchy to crisp exterior with a chewy middle. I think I had a Macnut Chocolate Chip Cookie and Blueberry & Lemon Scone on my initial visit. I have a soft spot for scones, dry or soft. And both were excellent. Today, I tried their Miso Nutty Cookie - a sweet and savory cookie with peanut butter to complement the miso. Also, enjoyed their Sourdough Cinnamon Roll which is another successful combination of both sweet and tangy. I try to go early - hours are 600a till 200p , except Tuesdays and Wednesdays - as traffic and parking can be issues. I have to try their PHB Bread next.

There are two reasons to visit: 1. Crispy cookies!!! FINALLY. Someone bakes totally crisp cookies. The chocolate mac nut cookies are addictive while the "chippy" AKA potato chip and chocolate chip cookies are pure crack. 2. Fresh made sour dough English muffins. Although not made the right way with two layers that you peel apart for maximum surface area for toasting, this one requires a bread knife, they are excellent. Great chew, nice fermented notes, perfect for a home made brekkie sandwich. The sourdough bread is good with plenty of moisture and a chewy crumb though it lacks the crisp European crispness. All good, makes for easier to eat sandwiches. Limited selections but what they offer is fresh. Very friendly husband and wife team. Keep in mind, these are artisnal products. Six cookies for $10. Four English muffins, $8. Sourdough loafs, $10 as of this writing. Definitely worth a try.

Try the breakfast sandwich and leave with a sourdough loaf! Super friendly staff and they make bread right in front of you. So good, I got my sister gift cards to spread the goodness with more family.

Babe's Bakery is tucked away on the corner of Waialae Avenue and St Louis Drive. I saw a lot of social media about this small Bakery and decided to check it out. They're open from Thursday - Sunday 6am - 2pm, we were out early in the morning so the worked out perfectly. I saw on a post that they sold sourdough bread and I wanted to get a loaf to eat. They have cookies, muffins, small individual cheesecakes and other pastries, but I was there for the bread. It was a nice size loaf, beautifully baked for $10. Love the top crust and design, it made for a perfect picture. Yes the picture is real. It was really moist and delicious with some olive oil, also toasted it up for a sandwich later. This Bakery knows it stuff, I'll definitely be back to try more of their baked goods. Oh Ya they serve chili! Have to eat that too!

Visited Babe's Bakery.....bought a sour dough bread, cinnamon roll, mac nut cookies and mini poi haupia bread. The service was fast and friendly and a nice cute little bakery atmosphere. The parking is not easy, thankfully my husband was driving....my parking skills are not good.

You can find Babes Bakery right behind Nola Cafe on Waialae Ave across from City Mill. We stopped in to check it out. Prices are very reasonable. I had to try the chocolate chip cookies with potato chips. It certainly satisfied my craving for something sweet, salty and crunchy. We were only there for a few minutes but was greeted and helped by the super nice guy behind the counter. Nice quiet place to sit down, have a snack and drink and do homework as I saw some university students doing.

Babes Bakery. No, its name is not intended as a slang for an attractive woman. Instead, when you get to the kindest couple that owns this bakery, you'll find out that "babes" means baking in small portions, like cookies, which the owner does from living in Hong Kong. Providing artisanal sweets and sourdough breads, Babes Bakery started in Nov. 2020 by taking part in the Koko Marina crafts fair in HI Kai and then expanded via various farmers markets and pop-up events on Oahu. Growing in popularity, it opened its brick and mortar business on 8/3/24 at the bottom of St. Louis Heights in Kaimuki. Owners John and Angela Osorio bring with them many years of hospitality management and baking experience. With a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management, focusing in Culinary Arts/Food Service Management from the Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island, John gained years of work experience in the hospitality and culinary arts at Westin Hotels, Morimoto Waikiki, as well as the Shangri-La Hotels and Ritz Carlton in Hong Kong. While in Hong Kong, John met his future wife, Angela, who baked sweets and cookies for hotel restaurants. John bakes his popular sourdough bread with pretty designs on the crust with flavors of classic, Kalamata olive, cheddar, roasted garlic and chili, and focaccia. Wife Angela is busy baking her cookies of double crunchers, mac nut choc chip, miso nutties, triple choc cheesecake, salted caramel mochas, chippy, and gingerbread. And together, they churn out sourdough cinnamon rolls, guava bars, haupia poi banana bread, cheesecakes, and even whole pies. They also offer simple hot breakfast and lunch items, e.g., chili con carne with munchies, focaccia pizza, grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup. We had the following: * Classic sourdough. Using 1/2 whole wheat flour and 1/2 enriched bread flour, there is a chewy consistency that I really like. I also enjoy having it being toasted, which gives a chewy crunch. As an added touch, John imprints fancy designs on the crusts of bread loaves to make them his signature breads. These designs are very appealing to the eye! * Cinnamon roll. I really enjoyed this delicious roll that was so soft and fluffy! Just the right amount of cinnamon, and the frosting appeared to be butter/cream cheese mixture that is so flavorful! The roll and frosting were not overly sweet and very delicious! * Cheddar/bacon muffin. This savory muffin had the perfect ratio of cheddar cheese and bacon bits that makes a delicious treat! Perfect if you're into savory treats! * Haupia poi banana bread. A delicious banana bread, with the bananas adding sweetness, the haupia providing a rich creamy texture, and the poi making it moist. * Chippy cookies. Super ono crispy cookies with choc chips and large bits of Ruffles potato chips make this my favorite and is so addictive! Sweet and salty! * Chinese New Year almond cookie. Hong Kong style butter cookie with a slight amount of almond flavoring. The bright red square cookie is decorated with gold trim and Chinese lettering. This crispy cookie is very delish, but too pretty to eat! (The round almond cookie with the red dot in the middle is a local thing and not found in Hong Kong, according to Angela.) Owners/bakers John and Angela are so very welcoming and friendly that you will enjoy visiting their bakery. They will happily chat with you, as I learned how passionate they are of their business. They continue to offer new items in limited quantities on unannounced dates, e.g., guava bars, brownies, muffins, tiramisu, carrot cake, black forest cake, and even spam musubi in sourdough bao bun. Special items are baked for holidays, e.g., stollen and gingerbread for Christmas, and meringue cookie flowers for Mother's Day. The small bakery is clean and bright, with wooden shelving to showcase their baked goods. They also have a refrigerated display case. Baked items are enclosed in pretty packaging or small boxes with partial cellphane so that you can see how they look. There are a couple of small tables for breakfast/lunch dine in. Hours of operation are Thurs to Mon, 6a to 2p. Babes Bakery is located in the same complex and Vons Chicken and behind Nola Café at the bottom of Kaimuki. Somewhat hidden, enter the parking lot from Waialae Ave. after passing Nola Café. Free parking in stalls in this private lot that is shared with other businesses. During the busy lunch hour, the small parking stalls and how they're angled make it difficult to get in and out of the parking lot. After getting to know owners/bakers John and Angela, I can certainly say that the name Babes Bakery is not how it's used in the US, but rather, the portioning to make small items as how it was used in Hong Kong. I love what I've tasted thus far and look forward to trying different baked goods that are offered. Wishing John and Angela much success with their bakery! Support local!

First time here for the wife and I, they specialize in sourdough breads. So we came to try the cinnamon rolls, and guava bars! We also got a Oreo cheesecake and raspberry pistachio bars as well! Service was great as we were greeted right away and ordered. The place does not have indoor seating so we grab to take home, but it's very clean and organized inside. The parking lot is super small tho and I get that's why I seeing a lot of cars backed into there stalls. Other than that this place makes great food and next time we will be back to try other goodies!

Known for its smooth, light, and mildly acidic flavor profile with notes of chocolate and nuts, it is highly prized and regulated by the state to combat food fraud. True Kona coffee is only grown on the slopes of Hualālai and Mauna Loa volcanoes. We had been told to check out Kona Coffee Purveyors at International Marketplace by a good handful of Honolulu friends and I'm glad I heeded their advice. The best coffee on our trip was had here and I wish I had more time to grab another cuppa! I ordered a black sesame latte for myself, shared an affogato, and tried a Konawaena pour over (Kiwae honey, roasted macadamia, and milk chocolate) pourover. The latte was sip after sip of balanced coffee with a hint of black sesame. The pour over is where you truly get the caffeine. As for the affogato, easily the best affogato had on the trip (and I had plenty~). I highly recommend Kona Coffee Purveyors if you're in the Waikiki area. The ambiance is nice and the staff is friendly!

I ordered cortado with their signature pastries. Cortado came with carbonated water and I have to say it paired pretty good. Ambiance was modern and clean. I love the presentation and taste of their foods are also good.

I tried the butter mochi this past visit and it was good. It always amazes me the ladies who take your order and don't write it down and somehow get it right. I can see one or two things but my wife likes to order 5-6 things. I've been lucky to go when no one was in line (a rainy day) and have waited in line for over 30 minutes. This past visit was only about 20 minutes. I guess it's a roll of the dice. After Char Hung Sut closed many years back this has been my go to for Manapua.

The pepeau was also flavorful and the pouch was light and delicious, not overly thick and chewy. There was a baked triangle filled with a pork filling. The pastry was light and delightful. The mochi rice pockets were especially enjoyable and a new favorite for me! Yum! And the custard tarts were fresh, not too much crust, and of the crust, it was light and flaky! Very well done! Will tell family and friends about this most tasty bakery and stop by again on our own! Woo hoo!

It's a cute little shop with benches facing the windows to people watch. It was hard to pick one item, but I ended up trying the Char Siu Croissant. Every butcher I've interacted with has been patient and genuinely helpful, especially when explaining different cuts of beef. I'm not a fan of cleaning chicken myself, so I really appreciate that they'll remove skin and bones in-house (you still pay for it, and they'll ask if you want to keep the scraps). Another big plus is that the meat is fresh, unlike a few other places I've visited that only carry frozen options. Bakery: I can't come here without grabbing a sweet treat. They offer a mix of sweet and savory pastries, and honestly, I haven't had a bad one yet. I don't have a single favorite because they've all been consistently good. In my opinion, they're best enjoyed the same day. They also offer seasonal and holiday pre-orders. Sandwich of the Day: The premade sandwiches start at 11am and are made with about 90% house-made ingredients, served on their focaccia. As someone who loves a good sandwich, this did not disappoint. There are a few seats inside but I usually take everything to go so I can get my meat into the fridge.

However, there are many alternative malasada purveyors throughout Honolulu, so I depended on local vloggers to find the best ones. This one popped up often on YouTube, and as luck would have it, we were dining at The Pig & The Lady on the next block. How calorifically convenient. We took the opportunity to stop by for a pre-dinner snack since they closed at 6PM. It's a cute shop with multiple sweets including quite a selection of housemade ice cream and delectable mouthfuls called Cake Bombs (Photo 10). We decided we would be good and ordered one unfilled Malasada each. Dusted with various sugar flavors, they were just $2.65 a piece. I went for the Coffee, while Jamie chose the daily special, Cinnamon (Photo 6). They were soft and tasty, quite comparable to Leonard's albeit a tad smaller. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing since we had dinner ahead of us. However, we let temptation get the best of us and shared a $5.50 slice of the Ube Haupia Mac Nut Bar, a yummy combination of sweet potato and ube topped with haupia (coconut milk pudding) on a macadamia nut crust (Photo 9). Truth be told, it stole the show from the malasadas.
