Need to admit that this place wasn't awesome. Staff and service was great but the food missed the market on taste, quality and value. I had ordered the Buffalo chicken sandwich that seemed to be a frozen Tyson special. For $17 plus a $2 up-charge for fries, I'd expect fresh chicken. Traveling through Utica looking for a place for dinner. Stopped at one place. It was so loud. We didn't even stay. ended up here at babes. Incredibly welcoming staff good music, but quiet enough that I could have a conversation with my husband across the table. we both ordered salads really delicious and we have enough for a whole other meal if not more! Dorothy, our server was just adorable and so friendly and accommodating. And when the hostess heard that our friend's name was, Babe she came over and brought me a whole bunch of stickers! Stopped here for lunch while passing through Utica and was not disappointed. The restaurant was large with ample seating inside with some tables outside as well. After a cold rainy drive we walked from our hotel to Babes. Restaurant was clean. Staff friendly and efficient. We wanted something warm and stated with the minestrone soup. Arrived lukewarm and had minimal vegetables. I've had better at Olive Garden. We split a Utica steak sandwich which was described like a Philly cheesesteak. Meat was tender but not much of it and few onions and peppers. Very disappointing. read more

Stop for a quick lunch on 4/19. Ordered Thai peanut chicken salad. Menu says it's mixed greens. It was served with romaine. Bartender asked what I wanted to drink and I ordered a Tito's. She made my drink but never offered a menu. After there a bit and had my drink she finally offered a menu. I ordered got my food and saw it was not what the menu said but whatever it was fine. She then grabbed my drink that was halfway down while I was eating and topped it off with more Tito's and tonic. Never asked if I wanted another drink, just did it. Never asked on how the food was. She certainly added another drink to my bill that I didn't order. I spoke with the manager on the way out and was told "I'll talk to the kitchen and the server". I told him it was unethically to do that and I won't be back. He didn't seem to care even though he asked it I paid I told him yes but that was it. Sad this is how they run their business. read more

Service was only average, didn't get the extra creamers I asked for and was met with hostility when I asked andther server where they were so I could get them myself, does it cost more to actually print a dollar sign next to the prices?, food was ok except for the chips(they were spicey and I don't like spicey). First time in Utica. I was there for a training session and we all took a field trip up to Babe's a few couple of hours of relaxation and camaraderie. Being a day of perfect weather we were all looking forward to the relaxation time. Easy to get to and very easy access off the main road. We moved a few tables together, opened a couple of umbrellas and ordered some drinks. This was, without a doubt, such a comfortable place to hang out at. Plenty of room, perfect weather and comfortable seating was great Our throughly delightful waitress took drink orders to get us started, then gave us a few minutes to order some appetizers. Simply said "We had everything." wings, Tenders, Nachos and anything else we could find. Service was great and our waitress paid close attention to our table to make sure that we were all ok. We were in town with friends for a hockey game and the morning after (with many of us hungover) we headed to Babes for Brunch. Being in upstate NY we didn't expect much but Babes is definitely trying to appeal to a modern customer with their offerings. Prices are very reasonable for the amount of food and quality you get. We all ordered combinations of brunch cocktail flights and the classic babes breakfast. We all agreed drinks and food alike were pretty good considering, upstate NY. Our server was incredibly patient, friendly and accommodating for our rowdy group. The space was more than ample and the crowd was very low-key. Any trip to Utica means local Italian specialties must be enjoyed. Many years ago, Meg and I worked in Utica. It's where we met, and started our life together. We had many favorite dining spots, and Babe's was on the top of our list. Since then, however, Babe's has changed hands and many of their menu items are different from 20 years ago. Regardless, Meg had their current edition of Utica Greens, a dish that Utica is well known for. She reported that they are a little different, but as delicious as ever. I had lasagna. Hey, Utica is Italian food. Like Utica greens and desert canollis, ya gotta try the lasagna. It was absolutely up to my expectations. The prices are reasonable, the portions excellent, and the service is top notch, making our lunch a genuine pleasure. The atmosphere at Babe's is cozy and comfortable, though it's roomy and airy enough to please most anyone. When near Utica, in the Mohawk Valley, slide over to Babe's. I went to Babe's for the first time in many, many years and was so pleasantly surprised. I remember going there a lot as a kid, so expected a similar decor and vibe, with just standard, reliable food. As it turns out, the food was delicious and I'm already wanting to go back. I ordered the turkey and spinach wrap, which isn't something I would typically order, but it was fantastic. My companions were similarly pleased with their pulled pork sandwich and burnt ends (a great barbecue special that night). I also got a really tasty vodka lemonade cocktail. We had a reservation on the patio and I was initially hesitant, thinking it would be too hot but there are really great coverings back there that provided nice shade. I definitely would recommend Babe's for a reasonably priced meal out with friends or family, or a place to head to for a happy hour! read more

This restaurant is an incredible disappointment. Because it advertised itself as an "official restaurant" of USA Hockey, we made reservations for 40 for our hockey team and families. They assigned one server to the party. She was wonderful, but we're an hour into our reservation and orders still aren't complete. We shared our concerns with the manager who indicated the server is "fully capable". Don't disagree, but she was last seen entering each of the 40 orders one at a time. This place will gladly take your money, but they're not at all worried about your dining experience. We've been fortunate to try several other local Utica establishments which are wonderful. We went to eat about 3pm but the parking lot was about half full at this odd time . The entry did not smell good, but we got seated right away by friendly staff. Inside was very big with lots of seating. Red and hard surfaces was the impression. We had iced tea and diet pepsi, the Greens appetizer, and a pizza with mushrooms and sausage. We were very pleasantly surprised at how good the food was! The escarole was still slightly firm and the bread crumbs crispy on the greens, and the meat was not overpowering. We ate all of the ample appetizer and it felt healthy as well as being tasty. The pizza crust was real pizza dough, the cheese was not a thick plaque, and the mushrooms and sausage were just right. Our server, Brad, was very friendly and enjoyable. It is not a fancy place but we really had a good meal there. Well done, Babe's! read more

You can't get a buffalo chicken salad here because it's not on the menu. They have chicken, they have buffalo sauce and they have salad--but to put these puzzle pieces together is apparently too much to ask. Otherwise it's a decent place, especially when Gary Johnson is singing outside in the Summer. They also have a skating rink and it's close to the hospital, so another win-win. Gave Babes under new ownership a try, I really wanted to love it. .... BUT... Service was sub-par, we waited for our food for almost 45 min after ordering. We were STARVINGGG by the time it came. It seemed that was how it was for those seated near us. The place was clean, and the updated interior was nice! I like it better than the prior ownership. However I didn't like the menu, very few options that me and my husband wanted. It took us a while to figure out what we wanted to order and then on top of that the long wait for the prepared food.. was hard. We didn't order any complicated. I had a turkey wrap and hubby asked for a crispy chicken sandwich.. both with fries.. the plates came out and they were huge, but the serving size was tiny. Fries came in a stainless cup and they were a small serving. Food was OK... hubby said the crispy chicken was like a grilled chicken that they had tried to batter and deep fry. Left something to be desired. Overall, probably won't be back. It didn't win us over. I wanted it to, but it didn't. Bummer. read more

Overall our visit to the restaurant really was not worth it with the extremely mediocre food. Reading other reviews they were very accurate as after we were seated we waited for about 8-10 minutes before a waitress asked for our orders for drinks. The whole time there was around four staff standing behind the counter less then ten feet from my table on their phones and talking with one another. There were a few small groups there but it really felt dead inside the restaurant like they spend all their money on superficial improvements rather than what matters like food and service. Arrived at 12:45pm, didn't get out until after 2pm. Hostess ignored us for a while, then seated us in a mostly empty section where we got ignored for the first ten minutes. Waitress finally took a drink order, took another ten to fifteen minutes to come back with two beers and three soft drinks. She said she'd be right back for food orders, and left us alone for nearly half an hour. Finally took our food order, and took so long just to bring out one appetizer that our drinks were long gone. We finally had to go over and ask about our food (after eating a spicy appetizer without even water at the table) and had to scarf it and get on the road. We ended up feeding our toddler snack bars because her meal took so long. Most of the food was okay, but those were some of the worst Utica greens I've ever tasted. I still tipped like normal, not that anyone deserved it. We will never be back. UPDATE: we took the kid's pizza with us. One of the other kids tried it about half an hour later. We passed it around and we all agree, it's also the worst pizza we've ever had. If you ignore the rest of my review and stumble in here anyway, avoid the pizza on the kid's menu. read more

The chicken tenders were OK but the sauce overall is bland on the lasagna we ordered and the chicken riggies. The prices here are very expensive for what you get. We were Traveling with our dog. Came across this on the maps. We called them and ask them if they allowed dogs in the outdoor seating area and they said yes. So we Ignored the previous reviews and took a chance. They brought our dog a bowl of ice cold water with our waters which was totally awesome. My wife has a dairy allergy and they were also very accommodating and attentive to her needs. They were very friendly and we got seated immediately. The staff was awesome especially the manager. My wife ordered a Thai salad and I got the haddock fish sandwich I have to say it was the best meal of our trip. They even had music outside and corn hole as well as a large connect four game. Definitely worth step off 90, if you're traveling through the area. Great job to the staff and high recommendations for this restaurant. read more
