I wanted a minor change to an order and the waitress refused to even consider it and was very dismissive.

Sandyford

Your Thai is My Thai And My Thai is Your Thai…read moreIt would take an eternity to break us And the carbs of Peek Kai Tod couldn't hold us... So for the second part of my stay in Dublin, I decided to try the Beacon, a swanky-hip boutique hotel on the outskirts of Dublin in the Sandyford area. I didn't bargain for it being so far away from the city center, so much so that even my Nigerian cab driver got lost getting there. Well, it was about 8PM, and I just got back from a two-day tour of Galway and Connemara. I was anxious to check into the hotel after spending the night in a youth hostel, so of course, my dinner options were pretty much limited to the restaurant at the hotel. Welcome to My Thai. Sleek, modern and clubby, My Thai is pretty much the type of restaurant I usually avoid like the plague because the clientele is usually young, slick and thoughtless. I was right, as tables were filled with twenty-somethings dressed in unflattering outfits and looking close to wasted around 9PM before their hardcore partying was about to start. I was gratefully seated in a corner table away from the blaring Euro-funk music by a poker-faced hostess who didn't seem to be enjoying her job much that night. The menu was fairly robust with a lot of items that appeared quite tempting on paper. After much perusing, I settled on two things, first the € 5.75 Vegetable Spring Rolls, which was my mistake since it clearly stated "deep fried filo pastry" as the wrapping versus my expectation of simple rice paper. An oily appetizer stuffed with carrots, shredded cabbage and coriander leaves and accompanied by a too-sweet chili cause (see photo). Things got better with the € 15.25 Duck Noodle, basically a bowl of flat rice noodles in a spicy broth filled with mint and lemongrass (see photo). There was plenty of duck, as there should be for the extravagant price point. And frankly that was what I wanted after a long bus ride from Galway. Your Thai is Your Thai And Your Thai is Your Thai It would take an eternity to convince me That the carbs in that spring roll couldn't bloat me... FOOD - 3 stars...merely passable Thai but pass me the duck AMBIANCE - 2.5 stars...dark, loud and clubby...so not me SERVICE - 3 stars...I couldn't see who was serving me TOTAL - 3 stars...gee I suppose if I came back to the Beacon...

From the outset making a group reservation, the staff at the Beacon/My Thai were very helpful…read more On arriving the venue is within the Beacon Hotel so there is this deluxe glamour look to the lounge and the bar area continues with that vibe however more into the restaurant whilst not authentic Thai setting you are still nicely impressed with the layout and decor. 8 of us for dinner, we were seated straight away and introduced to the layout of our meal which was a sharing menu. With the sharing menu it's a number of dishes all served together and you can try a little of everything. We had drink order taken and within 10 minutes we had a tipple in hand, then the food began to arrive... Holy smoky! Starters had everything peppered calamari, tempura vegetables, spring rolls, skewered chicken, steamed dumplings on the list goes on. The chef came out to introduce the plates and offer additional spices / condiments. The tempura peppered calamari was great plus steamed dumplings were my fave (but all were truly yum) Next on with our mains, we had a nice 15-20 minute between which was great. The mains began to arrive and it felt like there was endless dishes, we were treated to everything from green curry, pad Thai, crispy duck, stir beef, lamb curry, noodles & variation of rices. Couldn't fault any of it, was so much to choose from and they really didn't skimp on the portions, in fact we wondered how we'd ever finish. The chef came by the table 2-3 times over the evening which was a fantastic touch, the group was very impressed plus he nicely stayed around for a group picture. My husband works just around the corner and I'll be making a point of returning here again, very soon. Happily recommend to others
